Awesome, sounds like you're doing great. I had my surgery June 25 and I just had my 1 mo doc follow up and i'm down 45lbs. I tried a small bit of salad and felt the bubble guts as you're saying lol i'm still in my mushy foods stage and so far, I feel fantastic. I'm pretty sick and tired of my Protein Shakes, but i'm running out so i'm going to try a new kind, new flavors, i'm sure that will help. I'm going to start at the gym on Monday, really looking forward to getting in there and seeing how some cardio improves my weight loss. Best of luck @@JosieAppleHead!

I was sleeved June 23rd, had my month pre-op appt yesterday! Incisions are healing well, I am down 25 lbs total from preop liquid diet [2 weeks] to now so 6 weeks total. I got clearance for the gym, so Ill be starting that on Monday. I have been doing ok tolerating most foods, eggs depend on the day - sometimes bothersome and I have not done well with Greek yogurt or whey Protein powder. Other than that, I am very happy with my decision and the progress I'm making!
Can't wait to see the lbs and inches continue to go down!

Ugh. An unwanted side effect. I'm hoping the Biotin I've been taking for a year and will be taking post op will help me avoid it. We shall see.

Have you discussed your concerns with your medical team. You typically don't meet the anesthesiologist until pre-admission testing but when you do make your fear known. Make sure your surgical team is aware of your issues with nausea so they can have something at the ready for you post op.
Try to think positive. I had a prior experience with desaturation coming out of anesthesia, but had no issues at all with my sleeve surgery. Also please know that not everyone has issues with nausea post op. I had a super smooth surgical process. No pain, nausea, or issues with anesthesia. My surgery went smoothly and I was able to walk in recovery. Trust your surgeon. This is really an easy procedure.

@@ShrinkingPeach That's wonderful! It is an amazing feeling that you just really can't understand until you've been through it. In a way I feel like we are lucky to get to witness it. There's a lot of struggle in being overweight. It's not easy, this whole process isn't easy either but when you put it all into perspective it's pretty cool. We are given the chance to be "reborn". I definitely feel like a different person. Good luck on your journey!!

I love your posts and thank you for sharing! I have been overweight my whole life and after going through a traumatic divorce (ending in a restraining order and other issues), I retreated into solitude and ate more than ever before.
I met the new love of my life in 2010 and we got married 2 years ago. I now want to live longer so I can spend time with him. I want to be healthier so we can do more. He has 2 kids from a previous relationship (14 and 10), and I want to be able to keep up with them!
I also work at a job where I wear scrubs and I couldn't even find scrub pants that fit, so I had to wear knit pants in black with scrub tops. I have now gone down from a 4x to a 2x. It feels great to not feel like I need to try to be invisible as I have my whole life. I feel like a butterfly being re-born. I still have along way to go but my whole confidence level is changing, it is bleeding over into every aspect of my life.
Thank you again for your post and that is my share!

This morning was a weigh in day and as I sat and marveled at the fact that I'm only 6 lbs away from hitting that elusive 100 lb mark I thought about just how much my life has changed in 8 short months. 8 months ago I was starting a new semester In college and it had got to the point to where I could no longer fit into any of my clothes (like, none of them!) I HATED clothes shopping, I hated the whole process of it from the horrific full length mirrors to the equally horrific lighting stores insist on using. So I decided instead of putting myself through the trauma of clothes shopping (I flat out refused to go up anymore in size) I would just buy myself two sets of black 2x scrubs to wear to school. Now, normally that wouldn't seem like such a big deal seeing as how I do wear scrubs for my occupation (nursing) but at the time I wasn't even working. I quit doing contract nursing to go back to school full time. I know nobody ever though anything of it, people just though I had been at work. I never lied or said I had been working it just never came up but I knew. I felt pretty defeated at that point. I knew I had to make a change. I got to the point I really didn't even want to leave the house but I had to go to school. When I think about that and then compare it to the fact that I just went out and bought myself some new scrubs In size MEDIUM ( I really am working again now) after only 8 months it seems like a real life miracle. I'm not sure why I'm really even sharing this but maybe it will give some newbies that are feeling the way I did some hope that it can and will all change. There is a light! I guess I'm just feeling extremely blessed and humbled this morning. So if anyone else would like to share their "fat confessions" I'd love to hear that I'm not the only one that did wacky things Life is good!

Me too! It's amazing isn't it? I'm on my last day of my two week prep and surgery is tomorrow. It's been difficult but I've done well thanks to everyone's posts. You really have to get your head in the game and change how you view food. Very difficult for me but I'm taking it one minute at a time. I've realized that every meal is a choice. You can either choose to eat well or you can choose to eat poorly. These two weeks have shown me that I have the control, not my food. ????????

I've heard if you lose it at a slower pace you won't have as much droopy skin. That's a plus in my book. 2 lbs a week is a good safe amount. Keep up the good work. ????

Yes...you're in the three week stall! I stalled there and it lasted for six weeks for me. Called my NUT and she said keep up the Protein, add 100 calories of "good fats" (olive oil, avocado, etc.), stick with the program. I started losing again at about 8 weeks out. I DID lose inches during my stall, though. I think during that time I was burning fat and buildng a lot of muscle which weighs more than the same volume of fat. Adding muscle is very important to in order to get your metabolism burning better. So maybe try not to focus for the moment on the pounds and more on overall fitness? If you stay the course, it will come off eventually! Keep up the great work. 19 lbs. in a couple of weeks is totally excellent!

Protip: Your body is not like a car -- burning gasoline at predictable rates, with the "scale" dropping in a more or less straight line. It really doesn't work like that at all. Not even close.
You and your body are now engaged in a very sophisticated biochemical and physical dance with many twists and turns and leaps and crouches.
You certainly didn't "earn" (in terms of calories in / out) a 19-pound loss in 14 days. Point is, the scale will move in a Jerky fashion in the coming months. Some weeks you may lose nothing. Then in one day you may lose 5 pounds.
That's simply how this works. For everyone. Including you.

I think when doctors and plans say no "snacking," they don't want you mindlessly eating or eating between meals when you aren't hungry. I've discussed with my doctor that I eat pretty frequently but I treat everything I eat like a meal. I sit down to eat it, I eat until I'm full and then I move away from it. I don't eat between Breakfast and lunch just because a clock makes me feel like I should. I eat when I'm hungry.
    Which is disturbingly frequent LOL

I eat 5 small meals a day (the first of every day is a Premiere Protein Shake). Two are mainly snaking items of cheese, Jerky, and nuts. I'm almost 8 months out and down 109 lbs as of this morning.

I do what Babbs does: nuts and cheese sticks for snackage. Sometimes I will have a hard-boiled egg or a slice of avocado. It's all about listening to my body. Sometimes I feel like I could eat the house down and other days I forget to eat until my stomach feels so hollow I can feel it hating me and it reminds me to eat something. I start everyday with Premier Protein drinks for Breakfast though. My surgeon suggested 3 meals and snackage to get my Protein in. As long as I stay below 50g of carbs, and get as close to I can to 100g of protein a day, it doesn't matter how much I eat. I was actually having trouble getting my protein in and my surgeon and nutritionist told me to snack. It really depends on your medical team and what they find to be best for you.

I am 8 weeks out and have 3 meals and 2 Snacks a day per my nutritionist. When I am able after eating I am drinking to get all my fluids in for the day. You really do get a rhythm going.

Some days I'm hungrier than others, so I'll have a snack or two. On the not hungry days, I skip them. I'm learning to listen to what my body wants.
My Snacks consist of cheese sticks, Jerky or nuts.

Congratulations on doing so well. And Congrats on your 1st NSV!! :-P
food losing it's domination over my thoughts was the best part of VSG WLS. Thoughts about what/when I was going to eat ceased the day after surgery. Up until then, I was always planning my next meal because I KNEW I was going to be hungry in 2 hours, no matter how much I had just eaten.
So, I feel uneasy when I read questions about "When can I eat _____ again?" or "I am worried I can't eat ______ ever again." When I read things like this, I am worried the person who posted isn't ready for WLS because it does take a commitment on their part to change their eating habits. And they may still be too attached to certain foods.
I was soooooooo ready to be DONE! with the control food had over my life.
It looks like you are too! I am so happy for you for taking control of your life.
    3-C plan for success!

Control what you can (your actions and thoughts).
Cope with what you can’t (external emergencies and other’s behavior).
    Concentrate on what counts.

Stay positive. Believe in yourself. Focus on your progress, not perfection.

Something that has really come to light for me during this pre op prep is how much food has ruled my life to this point...during Breakfast thinking about what to have for lunch and dinner, while running errands thinking about what I'm going to eat when I get home, during a stressful day imagining what I'll eat to relax with afterward, what Snacks I need to properly enjoy a sporting event on TV or what to order at the movies.
None of these instances was I looking at food as fuel but as a "friend". Now, having made it to day 6 of prep, I find I can do all of these things without needing my "friend". That may be the biggest "get" of this entire process!!

Sounds like everyone is doing well. I'm on day 13 of my 14 day pre-op liver reduction diet and almost had a meal yesterday. Thanks to this blog and everyone's support I held strong and stuck to the plan. I have to be at the hospital at 0530 Monday and I am so ready to be on the other side of this surgery. I'm not nervous just excited to begin the next phase of this journey and so thankful for Bariatricpal and the wisdom of those who have already done this.
