discouraged
try increasing your calories for 2 days then going back down to where you were at sometimes it helps it sorta shocks your body and then you start losing again. helped me by doing it we all hit those plateau areas and it sucks but dont give up you will do great.

Merry Losers -- check in and let us know how your day is
hey steph, hope things go great for you!! have you done sorta what i call a body shock to get a boost on losing weight again after you hit a stand still, I increase my calories for 2 days and then go back down to the calories i was previously eating and i starting seeing the scale go down. that might help if you never tried it but the next fill should help tremendesly for you. good luck!

Advice, anyone?
hey mrusso honestly i can tell you how i feel but you would benefit more looking up both surgeries and weigh out the risk yourself. but if you wanna know what others think well here ya go this is how i feel about surgeries. i was banded and i love it when i started my research 4 years ago i looked at the risks of surgery yes the bypass and band pretty much does the same except with the bypass you lose faster but have the risk of having more excess skin after weight is loss because your skin elasticity can not keep up to re form to the new you. but with banding yes you lose weight slower but you have a better chance of not having as much excess skin because with the slower weight loss your skin elasticity can re form better to the new you after the weight is lost. with the bypass you have a higher death rate during surgery. then you do with the band. If you get bypass and something goes wrong its not reversible with the band if something goes wrong its reversible . with the bypass you have a higher risk of stretching the new stomach pouch with the band you dont. with the bypass 9 outta 10 people gain the weight back. with the band you dont. but there is so much more i could go on and on. but research it and do what your heart tells you. I love my band and i recommend it to anyone who wants to research wls. good luck
-
Typcially how fast do you lose weight?
i was banded on 12-12-07 and i have lost 47 pounds so far and feel great. but everyone loses at a different rate depends on how well you work with your band and exercise. but you will do great!!

Just needing a little info...
oh yeah and about the psych eval. basically they want to be sure you understand completely about this surgery with the risks. make sure your able to comply with pre and post op rules. and make sure your able to deal with life after banding! youll do great.

Just needing a little info...
courtney I have no issues at all about food, the only thing i gave up was the soda and junk food and i substitute my sugar for splenda. I eat things i ate before I just prepare them a little different. i dont fry i bake now there are somethings i fry but i use pam i dont use oil or crisco. its not so much a diet with this or giving up foods you love. the band is a tool the rest is up to you! this band retrains you on how to eat. it teaches you portion control. it teaches you what foods you can eat cause some foods you just cant eat cause it gets stuck. but you learn to read labels. with the band you want high protien foods because it will make you full faster and longer. then if you have room eat veggies keep the carbs to a minimum . having the band is a learning process you will try things and know what you can tolerate and not tolerate. bread is not band friendly it gets stuck but toasted its easier to eat. but bread is high in carbs so the less the better, Pasta high in carbs but if you eat in once in awhile it wont hurt you. Peanut Butter even though its a good protien source is sticky some can tolerate some cant. rice can get clumpy if you chew good some can tolerate some cant. but with whatever food choices you choose remember small bites chew chew chew chew and you should be ok. i use baby spoons and small plates it helps with portion control. hope you decide for this its great i love mine to death been banded 7 weeks and lost 42 pounds. but it takes work and exercise. and remember drink Water carry it with you at all times. and do not drink for 45 minutes to an hour after eating. or you will end up overriding the band cause youll just get hungry again in a short period of time. hope all goes well keep posting!!

Question from a Newbie
i dont focus around counting cal much i dont go over 1000 though i just eye ball the calories in the foods im gonna eat and keep a mental note. usuallly for breakfast i eat an egg omelet. which i make in the microwave so i dont have to cook with any oils and such. lunch i usually eat refried beans with cheese melted on it. and supper is usually a south beach meal or weight watchers meal thats only if im not in the mood for what i made the rest of my family for dinner. If i do eat dinner i make sure its a lean meat with veggies. not many carbs i eat if dont have to but every once in a while mash taters are good.

Has anyone heard of this?

-
Port Question

December Post-Op Thread
i would imagine your eating to fast and to big of bites. try to take a small bite put fork down and chew chew chew. I havent had any problems like that at all.i guess im a lucky one. i have always been a fast loser but my problem was keeping it off. but this is my second fill so im afraid to jump into eating right now so im doing a day of liquids.. but your weight loss is great. remember everyone loses at different rates. keep posted all your doing great!
