Qbanma81 reacted to Psychsnob in Long Work Days?
I was working 12-14 hour days before my surgery at one of my jobs. I did not feel up to it after surgery, even though I went back to my other 8hr job that was alllllll sitting. I've been struggling with the Protein Shakes (I could only drink 1/2 per day instead of the the required 3), and I've noticed a slight decline in my mental acuity (I feel a little fuzzy and slower) due to the poor nutrition, so I haven't gone back to the one job yet. (I screw up, someone could die.)

Qbanma81 reacted to rosepose in 3 weeks post op gastric sleeve....always feeling really full when I eat
So that's actually not a great sign from what I was told by my Dr. and nutritionist - it can stretch out the sleeve and just generally suck. That pain is part of the feedback your body is giving you - if it hurts it's not good and it's too much. I was told to do the following:
get really small bowls/plates and forks/spoons - small bites and slow eating are critical to not putting pressure on things Measure your food before you eat. - get half cup scoops and if that's too much get a 1/3 cup or 1/4th cup scoop and start with that Find a way to eat more slowly. This is hard for everyone of any size - we aren't socialized to eat slowly. For myself I have to eat while doing something else with my hands right now. I type and pick up the bowl and fork (I eat anything that isn't pure liquid with a fork - including yogurt - because it's less shovel like than a spoon) take a bite or two and put the bowl down and go back to typing. As soon as I have the first indication that I'm approaching full I put the bowl and fork into the refrigerator and walk away before it hurts. If I leave it near by I will keep eating absentmindedly and it will hurt.

There seems to be no end to the ignorance in this world, even among doctors.
Like everyone here, I am gobsmacked that an M.D. does not know that weight stabilization after WLS is 10 times more likely (50%) than weight stabilization after diet/exercise alone (5%).
Makes me want to wear a wrist guard so I don't hurt myself when I b***h-slap people for being so f**king ignorant.

I would get a new GI doc. I'm a nurse and have zero tolerance for ignorant docs.

Even if Dr. NoBedsideManner believed that to be true, he should never say that to a patient who's undergone the surgery. There's simply no excuse for it. He sounds like a person who's pleased with himself and likes to pontificate.
What an irritating blight on the medical profession!!! Keep your head up high!!

I definitely agree ... However, I'm in maintenance mode & allow myself some pizza and similiar foods on occaision. (It's one of our family traditions to order pizza and watch America's Funniest Home Videos on Sunday night together as a family. :aureola: )

As weight drops rapidly. For some of us It will take time for the mind to catch up. I still place a picture of me at goal on my bathroom mirror to remind myself I am no longer a large person. Excepting my new self is something I'm working on and it is getting better. After years of negativity around my size. I'm trying to change that internal conversation.
Go easy on yourself you are a work in progress,

From Lawrenceville but didn't use Dr. Williams. I know someone who did and she really liked him and did really well. I am using Dr. Johnson.

I had my surgery yesterday morning, July 1. It took longer than expected because my gallbladder was inflamed. I had my lap band and gallbladder removed, hiatal hernia repaired, and the gastric sleeve.? I feel sore, specially where they've removed my port.
So far so good! My doctor is amazing!

Mine is July 21st as well! My fears are not waking up after Anesthesia, and blood clots. I have no family history of blood clots and my mom and brother have had other surgeries and came out of Anesthesia just fine but still I am a little scared..I have never had any type of surgeries..

Qbanma81 reacted to TexasGirl86 in Why the sleeve?
I know several people who've had bariatric surgery, and those who went with the sleeve have been the happiest with their results.
For me, bypass is something to avoid. There's serious side effects, like malabsorption, hair loss, and dumping syndrome is a nightmare apparently.
My dad's a physician and he reviewed the options as well and found that out of lap band, sleeve, and bypass, sleeve has the best results with the least complications.
I was self pay too. If the doctor you spoke to made it seem like the sleeve is just a step before bypass, maybe consider seeing another physician?

I'm not scared about the surgery itself, I'm worried I won't lose all the weight it worse, gain it back. My aunt gained almost 100# back (she started at almost 400.
I have invested so much in time and financially, I really want it to work.
Does any one else have this fear? My anxiety issue doesn't help it any that's for sure.
Fear or not, I'm going through with it even though I occasionally wonder if I should cancel.

My gf is 2 days out and she is in so much pain ????
I'm trying to not think about it but really makes me nervous about recovery. They had her drink barium to put gas in her stomach to check for leaks 24hrs after and she started to dry heave.
I pray we all have good pain meds ????????

Mine is July 11. I'm very excited but nervous! My Dr says I need to do the pre-op for 5 days but I am going to start it early just to be safe. It's a Protein Shake and clear liquid diet. I've read lots of comments on the forums about how awful it is. I'm hoping it isn't as bad as people say. supporting eachother will help, I think.
