stacy1204 reacted to islesdriveforfive in Gastric Balloon Procedure Booked!
Hi all - just thought I'd report back in on Day 4 after the balloon placement.
Day 1- it was so fast - in 20 minutes it was done and I'm in the recovery room. Left the office 20 minutes later for the drive back to Baltimore from Long Island. In retrospect- I should have stayed on LI overnight. We stopped at Panera along the way because I was actually feeling like I wanted to try some broth - and quickly found out that "broth" and "restaurant broth" really are 2 different things. We had to stop 4 times on the way home for me to vomit. Unfortunately- this carried on until day 3, pretty much every hour on the hour. Weighed in at 296 on insertion day.
Day 2- not much to say except I'm pretty sure I vomited my soul out several times. Not a good day. Getting dehydrated and my wife says I look pale. Spoke to the doctor and they suggested I don't try anything for 4 hours - no fluids or Clear liquids. They also prescribed the behind the ear anti-nausea patch. Finally! No more vomiting thank god.
Day 3 - I'm feeling weak, but not nauseated. Focus was to get as much fluids as possible and try 1 or 2 small meals / 32 oz of Gatorade G2 and 2 packets of puréed baby food. No issues.
Day 4-I made my way through 4 oz of Shakeology this morning along w a 1/2 cup of coffee. Getting strength back. Weight 287.8!!!! I don't feel the balloon anymore. I can honestly say that I don't feel hungry at all, but am trying to remain cognizant to get all of my nutrients in and remain hydrated. Thinking that the difference between Day 1 and Day 4 are like get this thing out of me to ok I can do this. Lol.
    Speak soon.

The recommendation was from other post-op people, however the nutritionist also agreed that they are an ok choice now and then. Whenever this was brought up, I thought, "WTF? You're telling a fat woman who is having a gastric bypass to go to a fast food restaurant!?" However, after looking up the nutritional value of each, they aren't bad choices. People need to understand that there are decent choices for food pretty much everywhere, you just have to do your research. As a mom of 2 five year olds, a wife, and a full time RN, my life can get pretty crazy and busy. I'm not banning food in my household, and I know that I can make better choices than I did before my surgery.
In case people are wondering values for the chili and the pintos & cheddar, I will list them here. They are also available on the websites as well in my fitness pal app which I use for everything that goes in my mouth.
The pintos & cheddar from Taco Bell is a side dish on the menu and the only thing I would order there since having surgery. Calories 190, 7g fat (not great, but not awful either) 6g Fiber, 1g sugar and 11g of Protein for the container.
The chili lasts for several meals, at least 3 at 2-3oz each. For a 3oz serving it has 64 calories, 1.9g fat, 1.5g Fiber, 2.2g sugar and 5.6 Protein. To increase protein a bit of shredded fat free cheese can be added as well as some unflavored Protein powder.
Like I said, it's important to do your research before just ordering, but there are decent choices in many places you might not expect. Is it a daily meal, absolutely not, but it definitely gives options when you're out and about.

Wait a minute!!! We have to cut out caffeine?!? That's a deal breaker! I have no problem giving up soda or other stuff, although giving up beer makes me sad.

I don't actually have any pictures of me from my top weight (273), but surprisingly, I have videos, so I took stills for comparison. One year later and down 100 lbs! I'm singing in those pics, btw!

I want to start by saying that the personal insults really are unnecessary. The young lady seems to have enough issues without everyone here beating her into the ground.
When I was in Mexico getting surgery there was a 16 year old there with her mom who probably only has 30 BMI and that young girl was getting surgery. I thought what a shame to be having such a life altering surgery at her age. She wanted the surgery but you could tell it was mostly at her mothers insistence. Her mother had never been overweight, her two sisters already had the procedure and the mom was saying "just think how beautiful you will look in your prom dress now." I wanted to tell the mom "your daughter is gorgeous, she would look good in a prom dress is she weighed 300 pounds!" But I didn't.
My point here is that some people are just too young for such a huge decision.
As for the original poster... Follow your own advise. Having the small stomach doesn't stop you from implementing a strong exercise routine, lifting weights, and eating healthy. Start those things now. Get back on track. Be healthy for you.
Mostly be happy NO MATTER WHAT! Don't let your ego control your thinking. I have faith that you can overcome what demons battle with you daily. Good luck!! And God Bless!!

Between the oatmeal, the flatbread, and the tortilla I think it sounds like you're having a lot of carbs for one month out.

I'm a nurse and clear liquids means things like broth, Water, Jello, popsicles. This is the standard 24 hour preop diet for all types of gastrointestinal surgeries. Check with you Dr to be sure but clear liquids does not usually include shakes. Hope your surgery goes well!!

I received a call last week asking if I was available for surgery on August 7. Stunned, I said yes! I was certain I would have to wait for the original surgeon to get back which could have been mid September. Now I officially have my surgery date, two weeks away. I'm on Day 2 of my pre-op diet. This is going to be a long two weeks

Well finally got approved! I will be having my surgery mid August. I'm waiting because I have a nonrefundable vacation first week of August and I would have been only 1 week post op. I don't think that vacation would be very fun lol!! I have to admit I am nervous about the 2 week liquid preop diet! I can do it!!

stacy1204 reacted to lauraellen80 in Usually, I'm pretty even keeled, even on the Internet, but some questions...
I agree that there are a lot of people--not just on here--who seem to be either extremely ill-informed or willfully disregarding their surgeon's instructions...
...however, these types of threads make me really nervous about posting anything on this site in the future. I'm still pretty new, both to this site and to WLS (I was sleeved 3 weeks ago). I posted a thread a while back with that I thought was a reasonable question. I'd looked through search results, had left a message with my surgeon's office, and just wanted some opinions because I couldn't stop obsessing/worrying. A few days later, someone posted a ranting thread which mentioned essentially the same scenario that I'd asked about. I had to assume that it was a complaint against me, but I wish the member had sent me a private message instead of calling me out publicly. And yes, I agree with @@judyoz that it's usually not hard to figure out who is being ranted about, which I think is worse (and kinda passive-aggressive) than just bluntly responding to the post or PMing the OP.
So, while there are certainly plenty of people who may just be on here to try to get someone to justify their poor decisions, most of us newbies are looking for a community of support when we can't even tell a lot of people in our "real lives" about our WLS, let alone talk about the nitty-gritty details.
