    2cents here.
I am very conscious of "tone" when writing and speaking.
I sometimes struggle with what I really want to say, with what is actually going to be productive. And there are times when I lose my patience and don't give a sh** how it sounds.
With that said, there is likely some good information in the article, but the tone is abrupt and for those that don't like "the cold hard truth" or more likely, the way a message is delivered, then you just stop reading or discount everything the author writes.

"Did you ever meet an obese vegetarian and wonder ‘HUH?’… how’d they get obese if they are vegetarian? Same deal… its not the vegetables, its the other stuff… the carbs… the potatoes, bread, macaroni, rice, tortillas and sugar!" Quote from ProjectMe.
I don't know who originally wrote this but vegetarians eat carbs and potatoes and bread and Pasta and sugar. What they don't eat is meat.
Listen to your dietitian. They know what they are talking about

Thanks for all the adds. I actually fixed my fitness pal to 800 calories a day. This seems to be all I get in a day.

I was doing a lot of "food funerals" between being cleared by the NUT and getting my lab work done... but I realized I was just making it harder on myself and got back on track.
Today is my last day of "real" food before I start the pre-op liquid diet, so the past week I have worked some of my favorite meals into my eating plan, but still tracked them on My Fitness Pal. And I've found that some things--when I'm really paying attention while I'm eating them--aren't as good as I think they are. It's more the anticipation, maybe? Except nachos. Nachos are almost always amazing.

Maggie, you can change it. Click on the calories remaining, when the next page pops up click the calories again and it will allow you to edit the amount. You can also change your Protein, carb and fat allowances for the day.
    Hope this helps

Maggie, Cecilia is correct. You can edit how much you would like to set your goal to. However, ever since UnderArmor bought out MyFitnessPal, when you compete you day and you are less than 1,000 calories it will give you a warning and will not automatically post to the wall. This is because for most people, you should not go less than 1,000 calories. I know on this site we fall into a different category where it is difficult to obtain that and since we are supervised by a doctor it is ok. Unfortunately, there is nothing that can be done to not show the message. What I do is just not "complete the day". This really does nothing in the app except automatically post. I would recommend you don't bother clicking the button, and if you are excited and would like to share that you were under your calories for the day then create a manual status update that says that.

4 days for me too!! I'm down 12 lbs. But the Dr told me if I didn't lose between 10-15 lbs on the day of surgery, he'd know I cheated and he wouldn't operate. So I am being super super careful. I'd do anything for some pizza tho!!

Surgery in 4 days and I can't wait. I'm on my pre-op diet which is 2 or 3 Protein shakes and a 300 calorie meal for dinner. I'm really thinking of having a Cheeseburger tomorrow night which will exceed my 300 calories, but I've already lost 13 lbs and just want one last one.

Yesterday was the kids last day of school and so I picked my three kids and two grandkids up early from school. The kids wanted to Celebrate by going to have lunch at Chili's. There was a woman at a table over from us and she could not stop staring at me. It wasn't a flattering kind of stare. It was an OMG how can she be so big stare. Every single time I would look over when and I was taking a bite she would just shake her head in disgust. I wanted to say something so bad but wouldn't with my kids with me. I will be sleeved on June 15th. My two wishes are that a year down the road when I'm healthy that (1) I'm not a skinny bitch like that woman and (2) she is at Chili's again so that I can very politely tell her how insulting and rude her condescending stares truly are.

This is my first post. Had my VSG on May 6th after a 2 week liquid diet. By the day of surgery I was already down 15lbs and have lost an additional 25 lbs post op. So far things have been going well. One night hospital stay, went home feeling great! knee pain already better by 95%! Started on some mushy foods a couple days ago, cottage cheese, poached eggs, went to a sushi restaurant with my wife had miso Soup and 1/2 of a rip avocado. As long as I go slow no problems. Just wanted to check in and say hello to everyone.

maggie409 got a reaction from Inner Surfer Girl in Why is protein so important after gastric bypass
Found this in an article I was reading:
    "Why is Protein important?
Proteins are a part of every cell, tissue and organ in our bodies. These body Proteins are constantly being broken down and replaced. The body does not store Protein for later use, therefore consuming adequate high quality protein is necessary, otherwise the body will inevitably suffer. When protein intake is not adequate, the body will break down lean body mass to compensate for poor oral intake. Loss of lean body mass is inevitable for WLS patients or individuals following a very low calorie diet. To minimize that loss, sufficient high-quality protein must be consumed."

I cant say we all fill full on four shrimp or one forkful of birthday cake. I can tell you about 1/4 -1/2 cup of food is about it depending on the last time I ate. I am 3 weeks 2 days out -
Energy has fluctuated for me and I was told being hydrated along with getting in the minimum Protein has probably been the culprit. My doctor said to expect being a little more tired than normal even if I kept up with hydration and Protein. He said it is your body adjusting (going into shock) over the amount of calorie intake and that it should pass after about month 4 or so.
I do not regret my new sleeve friend at all.

My first post ever, anywhere, and its here!
Telling my story, hoping to find new friends!
I have been overweight my whole life, as was my immediate family. It was a consequence of being raised in a lower-middle class home, where food was purchased based on volume and not nutrition. We all know now as adults quantity is not quality, but it is extremely hard to change those habits.
I have anxiety issues with food, fears of not having enough, fear of wasting, fear of spending too much money on food. I have had periods in my life where I was not sure of I would have enough money at the end of the week to feed my daughter when she was little, let alone myself.
Now here I am, so overweight my joints are deteriorating. Too young for replacements, too old to know better.
I approach each meal now with thought. Why did I pick this? Is it what I want or what I need? How will it be different once I am sleeved? Will I have "head" hunger?
So I ask my fellow members, is it true? Is it true that I will eat 4 shrimp and feel sated? Could I eat just a forkful of cake at my daughters birthday party, and be satisfied?
Will I feel so much more energy that I will be more motivated to do the activities that I can no longer do because of my weight? (I am hoping so)
Any advice appreciated, looking for honest truths so I can manage my expectations. I am in my approval stage.

Hi! My name is Trish. And I'll tell you about my experience so far. I've been overweight since college. The freshman 15 was more like the freshman 50. I've lost and gained weight multiple times in my life before I made the choice to get the sleeve. I don't regret the decision. I'd gotten up to 275 pounds and my back and joints ached. When I stood up after sitting for a while, it sounded like a bowl of rice crispies with fresh milk. I snored, VERY loudly, I could exercise, but not for long and not without feeling like I'd die soon.
I had the sleeve on 3/16/15. I'm just slightly 2 months out. I've dropped 44 pounds so far. Instead of coming home from work, cooking dinner and then sitting on the couch and not moving again until it was time for my son to go to sleep but yesterday I came home from work and worked in my yard. Weeded flower beds and shoveled dirt. The other day, I built a container garden to grow vegetables. I don't pop or creak when I get out of bed and instead of taking 5 minutes to loosen up and be able to move, now its a few steps and my hips seem to go back to the right place so I can walk without a limp. I'm actually a member of a gym and I lift weights now.
The first time I had shrimp after surgery, I couldn't finish 4... you'll work up to that. I went on vacation to Mexico and for the first time in a long time, I didn't need a seat belt extender. I look at life differently now and I've tried so many things I might have been scared to do just months ago. I swam with dolphins, I went down multiple flights of stairs to swim in an underground cavern KNOWING I'd have to climb those stairs to get back out. I had two bites of my mother's key lime pie. I took tiny nibbling bites off of the two small forkfuls I had. And was SATISFIED.
You will have head hunger sometimes. And you will have to work to figure out if you're really hungry. My suggestion is to make an eating schedule and stick to it. That way you're eating every 3 - 4 hours and don't have to decide if your hunger is real or not. You're going to suddenly realize you're alive and the more active you become, the more you'll want that feeling to last. You will be tired in the beginning, you will have moments where you might be mad at the world. But it's going to pass. The most important thing is always have your Water. Don't leave home without Water.
I wish you nothing but success and hope you'll keep in touch because this is an amazing journey!

Hi all, my name is Julia. I've been on here for a little while now and have really enjoyed reading everyone's post. I am writing this from the hospital bed. I was sleeved this afternoon. So far, all is well. I went in at 1 and was in the recovery room around 3. Made it to my room around 5. I have had some pain on my right side but the nurse said that is from the hernia that was repaired while he did the sleeve. The only gas pain I had was when in the recovery, it has gone away since than. I have been getting around pretty good by myself and have even walked the halls a few time. The one thing that has just about drove me crazy is the fact that I can't have any liquids. My mouth is so dry, my throat hurts and I feel like my breath is horrible. I am so excited about this journey and would like wish everyone the best on their journey????

All smiles before the surgery and than coming back from the recovery room
