    Knee surgery

I had my sleeve in 2015. Did pretty good at keeping my knee replacement off for a few more years. Ended up getting really bad again in 2019 and had both knees replaced in summer 2020 & gained 50lbs back after. I wish I did my knees before my sleeve.. I ended up having RNY a few months ago due to GERD & regain but regret everything about the RNY. (long story) Sent from my SM-G986U using BariatricPal mobile app
  2. Yep, I've had tons of problems after my bypass. Had it in Oct and have basically been throwing up everything since. I've had 3 EGDs and found a huge ulcer at the anastamosis, hernia and severely malnutritioned. Was admitted to the hospital for a week on IVs and had a feeding tube placed for 3 weeks until I pulled it out. I'm going on 4 months of hell. I have to do weekly bloodwork and 6hr long Infusions of potassium and magnesium because they're so low. My protein is low as well but strangely not too bad. I regret this so much & at this point Dr's are considering reversal. Sent from my SM-G986U using BariatricPal mobile app
  3. Omg someone else like me! I was only 2wk post RNY (revision from Sleeve due to gerd even though I had a Fundoplication 10yrs before my sleeve) when I stopped eating or drinking anything & vomitted nonstop. After 3wks of that I finally went to the GI who did an EGD and found an ulcer at the staple site the biggest he'd ever seen. I was literally on deaths door due to loss of magnesium, nutrition, dehydration, potassium, etc & was admitted to the hospital straight from the EGD and put on a feeding tube for 2 weeks. I'm now 2 weeks off the tube and nothing I eat works. It seems the ulcer friendly foods and the bypass friendly foods are not compatible. Please tell me when things got better for you & what you ate? I hate eggs & yogurt & love cheese and protein shakes even make me sick now. [emoji31] Sent from my SM-G986U using BariatricPal mobile app

    July 2015 Sleevers - 2 Years Post-op

@outsidematchinside I only want to loose about 40 more lbs but my doc would like me to lose about 60. For my personal body preference that would be way too thin since I enjoy my curves, lol. When I'm trying to maintain I stay at 1200 cals, when I'm trying to lose (for example I had a bridesmaid dress I needed to fit in in April) I stay at 1000 cals. My NUT likes my macros at 30%carb/30%protein/40%fat. I try to stay in that but I do admit my carbs go over more than they should. You?

    July 2015 Sleevers - 2 Years Post-op

I'm still tracking my food as well. 717 days straight on MFP. I am nowhere near goal and haven't lost a whole lot since about 6mo after surgery but have basically maintained +/-10lbs. I really wish I could've done the DS but my insurance wouldn't pay for it so I did the sleeve. I'm happy I did it and it has changed my life immensely but I know the DS would've been a better fit for me. I have a ton of extra skin that makes me very self conscience with my 90lb loss (from my highest, only 70 since surgery) but I have a lot more energy and have put off having to have a total knee replacement for another 5-10yrs which is great for my family history! I have very little restriction anymore but I still don't have any soda (exception: the occasional mixed alcoholic beverage) and only drink water. My favorite food prior to surgery - pasta - is now my sworn enemy because of the pain it causes which is both a blessing and a curse. All in all I'm ok if I don't lose more but in a perfect (rich) world I'd have a conversion to a DS and then a tummy tuck and breast lift soon after.
  6. 14mo post VSG - No loss in over 6mo. Hate this!

How much had you lost? Why do you suppose you haven't lost in so long?

sounds like you're in maintenance. If you want to lose more, you're probably going to have to cut calories.

I did the same thing and I wanted to lose more. I find if I have any noodles or even a 1/2 sweet potato I would go into maintenance. I'm there again only because I have some carbs now and then. When I go totally off carbs I start to lose again. I have to fix dinner for husband and yes I do have about a tablespoon of carbs, that's all it takes and I'm stalled.

  7. 576, 676, 638 calories?! I can't believe you're still eating so little this far out from surgery and at goal? Is your doc/NUT ok with that?

Welcome! I loved Dr Cottam... his staff on the other hand is ridiculous! I too had no problems with the staff until the time came for insurance auth and scheduling. If you can get past the stuff before your surgery then all is good after. Dr Cottam is an excellent doc and cares about his patients. I really like the PA that you see after your surgery too. The office staff is crap. I've had a pretty good recovery with the exception of one incision that got infected (actually half of only one) but I'm pretty sure it's my fault for camping/swimming way too early. I took a week off of work and then worked from home the second week but honestly could've gone back after a few days. It's super easy recovery. It's just the getting use to the new life and relationship with food afterwards that takes a bit of getting use to. Good luck on your journey!

Does the hernia change your recovery time?

Glad you're out safe! Yes, get up and walk...it will help get rid of the pain. Did you know you were going to have the hernia repair beforehand?

Had my 1 mo follow up this morning and I gained weight! 3lbs! From last week when I was in for my infection. I don't get it... I've done great and my protein is where it should be and calories at 700. And this has been my most active week with exercise. So pissed!
  12. I struggle with this a lot. I found it was such an ingrained habit that I don't even realize I'm doing it. I will say I do usually have to take a tiny sip with my meal just because my food is easily stuck. I had a Nissen about 10 years ago - before my surgery - so I really have to get a little fluid to help with food buildup in my throat. But just keeping diligent on remembering that all I need is a small sip is my problem.
  13. Sandwiches!! I want Jimmy Johns Turkey Avocado Beach sub! But really... breads in all forms, (someone mentioned bagels! Yum!!), pasta and Pepsi!

Oh...haha.. you're right! See how fast I forgot about that! It's only been 6wks and I've already forgotten. I have to tell you I admit I cheated a couple days and I also ended up having one light string cheese each day on the approval of Madison. When I went to the preop class/appt I told her what I'd been drinking and because my calories were so low she said I could have one string cheese to get me by as long as I didn't go over 600cals/day. It was the highlight of my day for the last 10 days of my 2wk liquids. At my 1wk post op appt with Dr Cottam when I was inquiring about one of my bruises he even mentioned "it wasn't from the liver clamp because you didn't need one.... some people respond really well to the preop diet and your liver was very small" I was so thrilled to hear that because of how guilty I had felt for my cheats. LOL
