  1. Hello, I'm sure it is just fluid and bloating...But I had my surgery on 1/14/08 at 216 (down 12 pounds from pre-op diet) and when I came home from the hospital I was back up at 224. And today only one day later I'm down to 222...But I haven't had anything but clear low calorie liquids for 3 days now...Per Dr.'s orders I can start protien drinks and full liquid diet tomorrow (3 days post op) I'm honestly not worried about the scale weight, but I'm just curious if anyome else has noticed such a significant gain from surgery and IV fluids ect???
  2. Hello all, I'm all banded and home from the hospital. My surgery went very well, but when the Dr got in there he found what he described as a very large Hiatal Hernia, so he took care of that while he was in there. I am in a fair amount of pain, But nothing out of the ordinary. I hope the rest of you Banded on the 14th made out well. Looking forward to hearing about your experiences. Suzanne
  3. The photo in front of the phone booth was taken in London in August 2007 and the other two were taken in Colorado in November 2007
  4. I am on day 4 of 2 week pre-op liquid diet (I started 1 day late due to New Years!!) I have to say, I'm not enjoying it much. It's now Saturday morning and I'm trying to plan activities for the day that do not include lunch or dinner...I guess I'm heading to the movies. No Popcorn...Boo Hoo...Anyway, it is getting a bit easier, And I seem to be down 4 pounds in 4 days. That makes it a little easier. I'm wanting to have 1 meal of a small portion of lean meat and steamed vegetables tomorrow. That is 8 days before surgery. Then back on liquids for the last 8 days. You think that is a bad idea???
  5. Thanks for the Input. I just ordered some Unjury unflavored. If it is truely unflavored, I'm all set!!! Also I'm going to check out GNC for some of their clear fruit flavored protien drinks. They are expensive though!!! Isn't it funny, I never mind dropping $50. at the Outback for one meal and a few Brewskis...But spending $40. on 2 weeks worth of protien is Killing me!!!
  6. Thanks for the reply Brenda. I went to visit with Dr. Ameri again today. I'm all scheduled for Jan 14th and ready to go. This 2 week pre-op liquid thing isn't much fun, But I'll get through it. Also, after talking to Dr Ameri, I was surprised that he gives the 1st fill a full 12 weeks post-op. It seems many on this board get their first fill within weeks. I was wondering what your experience has been with Dr Sandor? And yes, I'd love to meet for a coffee sometime or join you to a local support meeting. Keep in touch. Thanks Suzanne
  7. I had a really easy time getting approved with Dr. Ameri. His office is in Stoneham and surgery is at Winchester Hospital. I had my first visit with him Nov 7th and I'm being banded on Jan 14th. He and his staff are wonderful and I felt the process was smooth. I have HMO Blue. And a BMI of exactly 40. I only attended one support session (if this is what you mean by class) and it was done after approval. If you are anywhere near the area you might want to check him out.
  8. Hello, I'm scheduled for surgery Jan 14th. I am required to be on a 2 week liquid diet prior to surgery. It's only been one day and I honestly hate the protien drinks. I feel like I'd rather not eat at all. I don't like milk, the Protein powder grosses me out, and I'm litterally gagging with every sip. I've tried a few different things, but nothing is even tolerable. I'd happilly live on Water and sugar free popsicles for the nest 2 weeks...But I'm worried about getting enough protien after surgery. This is a life-time commitment and I need some suggestions on alternate ways to get the protein in. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks Suzanne
  9. Hello, I too am having my surgery Jan 14th...and I too am a smoker. I know this is terrible...But I have been lying. I am a light smoker...Maybe about 10 cigs/week (unless booze is involved and then it's 10 in the one night!!!) I have told every doctor I've seen (cardiac, pulmonary, psych, and surgeon) that I've quit...I'm sticking with my story. I know smoking is not good for you...and I understand the increased risks....But Doctors love to tell people to quit smoking...no matter what the ailment..The cure is always quit smoking...fall down and break your arm...Doctor wants to know if you smoke...It's annoying and I'm sick of it!!! Anyway...For your own good health, I hope you are able to kick the habit...Best of luck.
  10. Hi Brenda, I am from Woburn also...And a mother of an 8 year old daughter...I guess we have alot in common. I noticed you mentioned Dr Ameri's support group. I am being banded by Dr. Ameri on Jan 14th. I'm looking forward to it and felt really great about it...Until I went to his last support meeting...It seemed to me he heavilly favors Bypass, as did most of the group members. He kept referring to it as "The Golden Standard in Bariatric surgery" and touched very briefly on the LapBand. He stressed how weight loss is a lot slower with the Band as opposed to Bypass. Do you find his meetings to me almost totally focussed on Bypass rather than LapBand? Or that he believes more in the sucess of bypass over the band?? (also, Just for the record...I enjoyed the meeting and am crazy about Dr Ameri...He's so nice!) Just curious how you felt about this and wanted to say hello as we are both Woburnites... Suzanne
