I'd have this gigantic, bulbous head on a skinny dudes body...
Aint nobody got time for that...
So as far as the (ridiculous) BMI goes, I'll always be obese...
    And I'm ok with that...

I just had my initial consultation with my surgeon yesterday. I felt absolutely deflated when she told me I'd realistically reach about 185. My head was thinking 150. She said surgery will reset my body and I'll lose significant weight, but I'll probably not get to 150. Now, as I said I felt deflated because in my head I was visualizing 185 as still being really fat. Well, one of the insurance girls came in and I was visiting with her about my disappointment. She stood up and said, "I'm the same height as you, how much do you think I weigh? Guess, and I'll tell you." I looked at her and thought, man this girl looks wonderful. I guessed she was about 140 lbs. She smiles and says "oh honey, I wish. I'm 190. I'm considered overweight." My mouth dropped. Could not believe that that's what 'my ideal weight' looks like (in general). It shows just how distorted my mind has gotten when it comes to weight. If I look even close to that good, I'll be thrilled!!! It was very encouraging and inspiring. I don't care if I'll still be considered overweight. I'll be healthy!!! And over the moon happy!!! I rarely post, but felt like adding my experience. Bless you all.

My nutritionist set my goal weight at 165. In order to be a "normal" BMI for my height, I would need to get below 154. I have gotten down to 159 and am fighting hard not to lose any MORE weight. I can already see my ribs. I don't want to be thinner! My body fat percentage is the thing I care about. I'm at 21.4% body fat now which is very lean for my age.

They used the machine that measures body fat, muscle, bone, and Water. According to that, my fat free weight was 180, so I could weigh up to 230 and have a healthy percentage of body fat.

@@spdmonkeymama That's where I am. Having been 435 a year ago, the fact that I'm currently under 300 is a dream. I am 294 right now and I remember graduating from high school at 292. I've never been under 300 as an adult, so this was my first goal. Now that I'm here, I'm struggling to figure out what my next goal needs to be.

When they asked me at my first appointment what I thought my goal weight should be I said 199 because I have NO IDEA what less than 200 feels like. I remember being 140 in junior high and being told I was fat at that point. Right now I would be happy with 299 if that meant I never had to see the 300's again.

@@tappingmom Interesting. I wonder if I am "comfortable" with the 230 because I don't want to be disappointed if I don't get any lower than that.
I was like 230 pounds in 8th grade , so I don't really know what it's like to be normal weight.
I wonder if I'll change my mind the closer I get to "goal".

I've been getting lots of compliments, and it humorous to me to see how they've evolved. They have progressed like this:
(The double take-- no words, just looking twice cause something seems different.)
You look like you're losing weight.
    You're slimming down
    You look great
    You're getting skinny
    Your face looks so slim
    You're getting too skinny
Careful, you don't want your face to get too skinny
    You're withering away!
I guess 'skin and bones' is coming next. Doesn't bother me, but listing them out shows how this slowly turns into passive- aggressive 'advice' when others feel enough is enough.

I'm OK. I had a rough cpl days in the hospital because i had had a small cold before surgery. So i had a bit of phlegm. After surgery i had bad retching and nausea. Lasted about 3 days but eventually went home. Pain was never really bad just sore, felt like i was punched and kicked in the stomach. But all good. My weight loss has been better now than when i had the band. Day of surgery on Nov 16th i Was 332lbs as of today I'm 303. I'm proud of it.

That's exactly what i was told by my surgeon. After the band the most successful wls is bypass. I had wanted the sleeve but she told me it's restrictive like the band. She suggests the best option is malabsorbtive... of that's the right spelling lol
