Jb1176 got a reaction from jpt.30175 in Help I'm gaining! How did you change your relationship with food?
My Bariatric nurse is a bypass patient several years out from surgery. She does the three month checkups and discussion groups before we see the doctor. She admitted she fell off the wagon and gained 45 lbs last year. She described how she went back to the basics and started with the routine we all went through post op - liquids, puréed food, soft Protein, 4oz solid protein, 1/2 C veg, 1/2 C fruit, no Snacks, getting in her Water, eliminating caffeine and alcohol to reset her body and her mind. She admitted it was very difficult because the rest of the family was eating a typical diet and she had to adapt what they were eating to her own needs. I guess it might be helpful to get back into a support group or visit your nutritionist to help reset your motivation. We all know we have a tool for weight loss but we have to allow the tool to work and to get back on the plan for a healthy reset.

Sleeved 4/13/15. 268lbs at surgery and now 209 lbs. however had lost 28 lbs before surgery. Very slow process. I thought the weight would come off much faster.

I have been doing well and have gotten under the two's but have begun to slow down. This is where I can now admit that the exercise portion of this journey has to now come into play. I have begun in just this week so that I can keep my momentum going and have been quite happy as to what I have been able to accomplish. A few months ago you couldn't pay me to do anything that included bending, running, walking or breathing . I have a stationary bike at home and have been able to ride without passing out, I have incorporated some weight lifting and will continue to incorporate some other fitness activities.
    Continue the journey all.

Have lost only 3 lbs since the first of August. Weight is VERY SLOW to come off now. I have gone back to one and sometimes two shakes per day to try and restart the weight loss. I developed a flare up of plantar fasciitis two days ago and my daily walks are very painful. I need to rest the foot but I am afraid to ease up on the walking for fear of slowing down the weight loss even more.

7 pounds per month sounds pretty good!

Jb1176 got a reaction from Nurse 52 in 4 + weeks out and feeling regretful and hungry
Seven weeks out. Sleeved 4/13 of this year. I have been lucky I guess for hunger issues have never been severe. Honestly my biggest fear is not having what I thought would be a real restriction. I could still eat more that I am allowed and thus have forced myself to weigh everything I eat with a kitchen scale. I don't suffer from heartburn and haven't needed to take Pepsid or some other antacid. I think that is because I don't eat any processed foods. Everything I eat is cooked at home, weighed, and calories and Protein content are monitored.
I eat 4 ounces of Protein three times a day and none of that protein is from processed foods like lunchmeat, hotdogs, etc. Breakfast is usually a Premier Protein shake or two eggs scrambled. lunch is 4-5 hours later usually consists of 4 ounces of tuna fish, cooked chicken, a left over hamburger from the night before, or some other protein from something that had a mother. dinner is 4-5 hours later and again 4 oz of protein plus 1/2 cup of vegetables. I'm getting in 64-80 ounces of Water which really cuts any hunger I might have between meals. Next week I get to start 1/2 cup of fresh fruit.< /p>
I think getting in the Water, exercising 30-60 minutes a day and avoiding dairy, caffein, processed foods, carbs, sugar, helps stop excessive hunger. I've lost 42 lbs and am thrilled with my progress. I did have a stall at three weeks and had to go back to liquid Protein shakes twice a day to break the stall but since then the weight has come off at about 3-4 lbs per week.

Jb1176 got a reaction from wascott in Stall nine weeks out
Update. Finally last week I lost 4.5 lbs after being in a stall for three weeks. I didn't change my eating routine or my exercise routine and if anything cut back my walking by half. My lesson learned is to be patient, keep to the program, and just wait out the stall. This was my second stall but it lasted much longer than the typical three week stall I experienced.

I can eat most any animal Protein, legume, cheese and eggs up to 4 ounces per meal. No dairy (yogurt, milk, almond milk, soy milk, sugar free pudding, cottage cheese, etc) until the six month mark. At five weeks 1/2C vegetables are added but no corn, peas, or potatoes. At six weeks 1/2C of fruit was added once a day but not to be consumed at the same meal as the vegetables. I can substitute another serving of 1/2C vegetables for the fruit if I wish but not the reverse. Have to take one Co-Q 10 and 12 grams of Fiber supplements per day plus a Bariatric Vitamin three times a day. 64 oz of Water of which at least 32 ounces is plain water with no added flavorings. Sugar free Popsicles, sugar free Jello are permitted. Absolutely no snacking on anything between meals and no caffeine or alcohol. Some limited carbs are added in when I reach 75% of my weight loss. However I was advised to try not to start back on carbs if I can.

I think this is excellent advice. I've had two stalls since surgery 4/13 - at week three and week 10. Both lasted about 10 days. I just stayed with the program and followed the advice above. The weight eventually started coming off again.

Jb1176 got a reaction from quiltermom65 in Getting enough fiber/Constipation
I had a terrible time finding the right amount of Fiber to deal with Constipation. The directions from the surgeon's office was 25 grams of Benifiber per day. That gave me horrible diarrhea. They then reduced the amount of Benifiber to 12 grams a day. Diarrhea continued. I finally decided Benifiber was the problem and switched to Gummy fiber with 4 grams of fiber per day. The problems continued. I stopped all fiber supplements and tried one probiotic pearl a day and that seems to be working fine. Everyone's systems react differently to supplements. I do keep Miralax handy in case I have a problem but Miralax takes 2-3 days to work for me.

@@Yrkybarry, if you are following your program every day, then you just need to wait it out. And don't get discouraged – stalls happen, and then they end. While you're in them, look for non-scale victories (NSVs) like clothes getting looser, more energy, better blood sugar or blood pressure numbers, etc.
Here are the basics of my program. Your doctor's plan may differ. And if you're still unsure, log your food, Fluid and exercise with MyFitnessPal or another app like that. It's a good idea to do that anyway.
    Every single day...
60-80+ grams of Protein 64+ ounces of fluids Keep carbs as low as possible, and only from legumes, green veggies and dairy products Get some exercise at least 4 times per week Take meds, Vitamins and supplements as directed Pretty simple, really. Except for all that emotional, psychological, social, and physical junk, right? But if you can manage to separate your weight loss program from all the other stuff, following those 5 rules really works. Good luck!

I use a food scale on and off. Especially when I'm not sure of a portion size, like Cereal. I needed to weigh it to be sure of the calorie count. I bought a good cheap one off Amazon a few years ago and it has served me well.
