Jennifer2322 got a reaction from jess9395 in Reality Check- I hate my new body
Oh goodness, I don't know what you are experiencing... yet. But I know I will once I lose my weight. I am just starting my journey and have my first appointment with the surgeon in April. I am a very big girl with over 200 lb to lose. I know I will look like a deflated balloon when I'm done and I am already saving up the money for surgery to remove the extra skin. However, I know it will be worth it. I would rather look like a wrinkled prune then continue to carry around this extra weight. If I have to, I will duct tape my extra skin to me and enjoy my new life! I looked at the pictures that you posted on your profile, and you are beautiful. Don't let that negative voice in your head get to you! You have come a long ways and conquered a very hard thing! :-) When you look at your saggy skin, just think of where you were a few months ago, and how much better you feel. I know, easier said than done! Congratulations on your weightloss success!

Drink drink drink! I know it sounds counter productive, if you're retaining Water why would you want to drink more? But it will start to flush!

@@Jennifer2322 That stinks! My suggestion would be to read labels and log your food religiously - I know I often was eating more calories than I realized. For Water retention, can you ask your doc for 'water pills' (I forget the name of them...)? Hang in there, don't give up! Keep trying and you'll get there!

Jennifer2322 got a reaction from STARTING NEW in Pre-Op Weight Loss
Hi everyone! I am just beginning my journey. I had my first appointment yesterday! A month ago I started trying to lose some weight on my own because I know that the heavier you are the riskier the surgery is. I currently have a BMI of 60 and the doctor told me I am on the borderline of being too heavy for surgery. This sucks! I definitely don't want to have any delays in this process. I'm so ready for a fresh start and a new, healthier life! One problem I have been having is Water retention. Oh my goodness. Why, why, why must we retain Water? !?! As of yesterday I am 4 pounds heavier than I was a month ago when I first started trying to lose weight! I have been using Weight Watchers, have cut back on my salt intake. What am I doing wrong? Does anyone have any s uggestions on how to conquer this water retention issue? It is so discouraging to work so hard on changing my eating habits and nothing shows for it. Any suggestions and words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated.

Martene, I wanted the sleeve...but the powers to be in Canadia decided I wanted the RnY. My problem wasn't that I didn't eat healthy...it was that I ate WAY too much. I use to be able to down 1 large pizza no problem!. Now I can eat a small piece...lol All I wanted the surgery for was to use as a tool for Portion Control. Both types do that. After 3 months, I'm actually ok with the bypass. I wasn't scared going in...I was excited to finally have it done. I was concerned about malnutrition....don't have any. I must be an enigma. Anyway, I'm happily eating whatever I want...( healthy of course)...and dropping weight like crazy. Either surgery will help you. Honestly, it's a personal choice. For lack of a better way to say it..."go with your gut". Research both options and talk to your doc. Based on your health and body...you will know which one is best for you. Keep posting...I want to know how you're doing..

@@Martene81, I was crazy with worry until about a month before my procedure. I just knew I would be some new breed of human in which the gastric bypass would not work. In addition, I was going to die from anesthesia so it didn't matter anyway. And if by some stroke of luck I made it out alive, I was going to be permanently paralyzed from hair loss, broken bones due to losing the mineral density in my bones due to the malabsorption!!!! My mind was insane!
As I said this process has been great! I hate being nauseous and I told my doc to send me home with strong anti nausea meds! I've used them once, when I *thought* I was getting nauseous. My nose has gotten sensitive so it has pretty much been spot on with what NOT to eat. If it sounds or smells like a bad idea then it probably is. I just go with that now.

Many people don't have complications with the sleeve and some do. I've have 3 people with sleeves tell me they wish they had had the bypass. All do to GERD and reflux complications.

There are pros and cons and risks to every surgery. The benefits should outweigh risks. Success can be achieved with any surgery.

    Good Luck!

Oh girl. My heart just broke for you. I know exactly what you're going through! My ex husband treated me the exact same way. And I kicked his sorry butt to the curb because I knew that my son & I deserved so much better, and my son didn't need to witness his father belittling me. Sweetie, you have to do what is right for YOU! If your husband isn't going to be supportive then that is his problem. This is YOUR life. You need to do what is best for YOU! If your method of conquering the problem doesn't meet up to your husbands ideas and expectations, so be it. He needs to understand that he cannot control you like he is. It sounds like money to pay for the surgery isn't a problem, so go for it! Do it for yourself and your children. If he is any kind of man who truly loves you, he will come around and support you in YOUR decision for YOUR life. You can do this!

Jennifer2322 got a reaction from Bandista in Looking for Insight! Lap Band Vs. Gastric Bypass
Hi everyone! My name is Jennifer. I am just starting my weight loss journey, I have an appointment with a Gastric Bypass surgeon on April 8! I am really looking forward to this, I have been waiting for years, and I now FINALLY have an insurance that covers weight loss surgery! Yay!
I am currently torn between the gastric bypass surgery and the Lap Band. I am hoping to hear about your experiences with the Lap Band. I have read that weight loss is much slower with the lap band. Does this help with preventing excess skin? I look forward to hearing about your thoughts on this surgery and would love to hear about your successes!

I'm feeling ok. The gas pain is the worst. And also being scared that I won't get all my fluids in. I haven't been hungry at all. I've only had juice since I had surgery on Monday. Today I am going to try some Protein Shakes. The incisions don't hurt at all. I also had a hernia repaired that I didn't know I had. I will be glad when I can sleep on my sides. I've been forced to sleep on my back all the time. And I've had a terrible headache for some reason. Last night it woke me up a couple of times throbbing. The pain meds really help with any pain that I have and I'm tolerating liquids well with hardly and nausea at all. I had a little bit after surgery but not that much. I haven't thrown up at all. I do hate having to crush my meds to take them because boy are they awful!!! Now that does make me wanna throw up. But doc said only 2 weeks of that. I go for my first post op April 1st. So hopefully I will be moved to soft foods. Hope this helps a little.
