Rizzle01 reacted to B-52 in Maintenance is not what I expected.
First, I have the Lap Band so it may be different than by-pass or sleeve.....
I keep reading the posts on this forum, because, to be honest, I am not sure what "Maintenance" is...
I had surgery, which changed the way I eat, What I eat. and how much I eat....it was a reversal from what I used to do to get so fat....
So, for me to go on "maintenance", I would do what...? Change my new habits when it comes to food and eating???
I don't think I want to do that......
You could say, reaching any goal as far as weight was a "Perk" to learning to get rid of those bad habits and learning to live a new, healthier way....
But I will keep lurking to see if I learn anything....

I do believe that the scale can sense guilt. So either I try not to do things that make me feel guilty or I work not to feel guilty about the things I do, I haven't decided which yet. Maybe I should throw out that blasted guilt sensing scale.

I interrupt my meal. Five minutes in, I get up, go to the bathroom, wash my hands, come back. Often my appetite is satisfied but the signal didn't have time to reach my brain. It's easier to identify then if I want to keep eating or if I'm really satisfied.

It has taken me 3 months to lose 30 pounds. My surgery was a band to sleeve revision. Yes my weight loss has been slow but it's been consistent with no stalls. One of my co- workers had the nerve to shove a before & after picture of her cousin who had weight loss surgery the same time as me and had already lost 65 pounds and began to tell me that I'm not dieting correctly!! Never mind that her cousin is 15 years younger than me & was heavier than me in her before picture. Plus, she wasn't sure if she had bypass or the sleeve. Sorry for such a long rant but boy did she piss me off!!

Wow. What kind of cat is it? A friend of mine has a big Siberian that doesn't seem to know when to stop eating. She and her husband struggle to keep the cat on a calorie restricted diet. Kind of an Atkins diet for diabetic cats. So much for filling up the bowl and taking a weekend trip...cat will somehow manage to down the bowl in one long binge. Kind of like me and fresh baked Cookies.

Rizzle01 reacted to VDB in Just for Men: How long did it tak you to get your brain and stomach back in syncronization?
For me, never really a binge eater, but more of a quantity eater -- too big of portions. I like the PAL who said her eyes were bigger than her stomach! Literally
At four weeks post bypass, yesterday while on the road, went to my first restaurant with my wife. I ordered a small combination mexican dish, have to say have never done that before. I felt deprived by having to order a small combination. My brain definitely did not like this turn of events. When the (excellent, BTW) food came, I could only eat about 1/4 of it before the pouch filled. I am sitting staring at this beautiful meal and could not believe that was it for this meal. We got a container and took it back to the hotel room and shared it for lunch. We talked about this very dynamic, so decided that in the future we will share one entree if allowed; I will order child's portions if allowed; and if the restaurant will not allow those things after explaining my surgery, we won't go back. I need to ask my Dr. for one of those cards I can show people which says I can only eat a small amount of food....

Hey all I think my cat needs bariatric surgery as he is getting really fat.
Last week something extraordinary happened. I had a real big chicken roasted in the oven and as I was taking it out of the oven it fell on the ground and we decided we were not going to eat it anymore. So I put it out to my cat to eat. My cat ate it all and even the bones. Anyway the funny thing is ten minutes after it ate it all I went outside and my cat came up to me giving me those hunger noises as it seemed it was starving to death. It shocked me and I had to go and get it some more food. I think my cat needs gastric bypass.

Took the hubby out for his birthday this past April and had a delicious meal in Toronto at a fab restaurant that featured an onsite craft brewery. So many amazing beers to choose from!
I ordered a pint of gorgeous lager, forgetting completely as we "cheers"d" that I had been banded only 3 months prior. This was my first post-WLS beer. What happened next was hysterical.
Took a BIG "pre-WLS" swig of ice cold beer (delicious!), swallowed, and within seconds felt as though a Water balloon had exploded behind my ribcage. No pain, just a WHOOMP of frothy Fluid coming' right back on up my throat.
My eyes got huge, my eyebrows shot up, I pressed my lips together so as not to firehose the birthday boy and squeaked in alarm. My husband took one look at me and yelled "SHE'S GONNA BLOW!" My mouth filled with frothy beer (I swear it tripled in volume coming up). I looked a sight - my cheeks were puffed out to capacity, lips bursting to spray with the very beer that had just gone down.
Now I should say that this was as completely painless as it was hilariously inconvenient. I was laughing through the whole thing as I desperately tried to retain this carbonated frothing mass in my mouth while attempting to breath sloooooowly through my nose, trying to re-swallow the now warm beer in tiny sips.
Yes, people were all around us, many wondering just what in the hell I was up to.
    Phewf!
Managed to get it down (and not a drop lost!) but it took me over 30 minutes to finish that ONE pint of beer. My husband was incredulous. The "old" me would have slammed that pint and had another ordered before you could say "empty calories".
So beer is do-able. Kind of.

I have found a few new favorites at my favorite sushi places because I do not tolerate rice well at all.
Kani salad is just the spicy crab mixture and cucumber without the rice. I often ask the chef to add a bit of avocado and crunch. I also love the suni salad which is the squid in a vinegar base. I am not a huge fan of seaweed salad, but my bestie is. It has a lot of sesame and chili oil and is very fresh and crisp. These "salads" are big, Protein only and are usually on the appetizer menu. They are the perfect portion for me. The hard part is deciding which I want.
My favorite place also serves sushi rolls without rice. The filling is wrapped in very thinly shaved slices of cucumber and is absolutely delicious.

3 weeks out from bypass....BMI got below the label "Super Obese", did not notice the exact moment that occurred Darn, first time in my life I was labeled "Super" and I just threw it away. Speaking of labels, "Morbid" -- I think we need new labels.... I am going for Small Giants, Giants, and Really Big Giants...

Rizzle01 got a reaction from JustWatchMe in Fill Question
Ok, let me clarify, my Dr. Wants to give me another fill if I don't feel any restiance from the 1st fill. I most definetly feel the resistence in that I get full easily (I can eat 1/2 medium sandwich for lunch instead of a full large sandwich with chips). I still find myself wanting to snack about 3 hour later but I try to wait until the next meal. I don't always wait though. I almost always have a mid-day snack anything from a string cheese to a P3 Protein pack. I also usually have an evening snack of sugar free pudding or similar. The Dr doesn't really want to have to snack very much but I feel like I am keeping the snacking to a minimum (amount of calories). I can't stress how afraid of having stuck episodes I am. I am leaning towards asking him for another 1CC. I think that might be appropriate? He is also of the mind that it is easier to manage more frequent small fills than overshoot it.

We all do it our own way, some would say just go for a fill; my own way was always never go for a fill unless I was 100% sure, if I was asking - I waited!
What you describe is my "norm". I eat a sensible amount, don't feel hungry for a few hours. Head hunger turns up if I am bored. If I am busy, it doesn't.
Some like a very tight band; I am paranoid about being too tight!
Fills can be as small as 0.1 cc.

Seems I am in the minority here! I really seem to have missed all these negative veterans! All I see is people asking for advice/sharing of experiences. Should people who have problems not post? Should I not say I had to have a leak repair? Should I keep quiet about the fact I have had a few episodes of regain? Is it unkind of me to say, completely truthfully, that most of the banded when I was in 2006 no longer have their bands? Or that many doctors no longer offer banding as an option?
I love my band, it does just what I hoped and need! But I am not going to pretend bands are miracle cures and work for everyone who follows the rules!
