  1. I was at my dr.s office yesterday and I saw the Realize band and the usual band. I was told that I can choose either one, or let the dr. decide when he opens me up. My Dr. is Dr. Trace Curry, and he was the first dr. to place the Realize band in Ohio. The regular band is actually circular and has those little chambers that fill with saline and it stays in a perfect round shape. The Realize band isn't perfectly round. There are no little chambers that keep it round. There is just one chamber that goes around the entire band, and that chamber is very soft. The band is more pliable and takes a more oval shape. As for weight loss, there is no difference. You still loose the same amount of weight, the band is still in the same place. THE REAL DIFFERENCE.. the port! It has a much lower profile-LOTS SMALLER - and it doesn't have to be sutured into place. There are clips that attach it to the muscle wall. There is little chance of the port getting filpped.
  2. I'm not banded yet.. (Dec 27th) but I take Cymbalta. I did have nausea, so I began taking it just before bedtime and it helps. I'm interested to know about this too..
  3. I'm going for my nutrition class and pre-admission testing tomorrow. Surgery is scheduled for Dec.27th. I'm soooo worried that they won't do the surgery if this stupid cold doesn't go away. Has anyone else had a cold before surgery?
  4. I'll make sure I get book so that I have something to read post-op.. Thanks for the suggestion!
  5. Keep us posted!!! It's getting close for many of us.. and we can live vicariously through you!
  6. oky.. was just wondering if you suddenly craved blood or something.. JUST KIDDING! Um.. but.. if I were a vampire.. well.. golly.. I wouldn't have to worry about weight.. or even death!!!! I've been sorta into vamps lately..
  7. Congratulations to both of you!!!! Of course.. I'm jelous... I WANT MY BAND RIGHT NOW!! I'm also glad that you were honest about how it went..
  8. Good to hear you came through So.. um.. why do you feel like you are becoming a vampire????
  9. Have you gone to anyone else for a second opinion??
  10. I'm in Ohio... Surgery the 27th!
  11. I really think you hit it on the head, Peaches... People don't have the same compassion about lap-band surgery as they do for your hernia surgery. I think being obese (which I currently am..) has been associated with a stigma of being unable to control themselves.. in this case with food. Hmmm... wish they could only walk a day in my shoes...
  12. Yay Gayle!!!! You are just 1 day before me~~~ I suppose we will be on a liquid diet together!! *lovely thought* Congrats!!!
  13. I"M A TEACHER!!! --------> ****goes to sit on the teacher losers bench*** I have a wonderful 4th grade class. I'm 48,(will be 49 on Dec 7) have a BMI of 40 and would like to loose 90 lbs. Widowed, then Married 6 yrs, 3 children (26d, 24s, 24d and a step-daughter 26) I think lots of teachers are overweight because of the massive stress associated with the job! Started the research into lap band years ago.. was ready in September to pursue the journey. I've gone through all the stages of grief over food, and now I'm at the acceptance stage. To be banded December 27, and I'm not even worried about being on the liquid diet over Christmas. I'm still gonna Celebrate, just with something liquid!! I'm so excited to have found this place, and all of you!! You really don't know how wonderful it is to have lots of infomation and support!! Thanks!!!
  14. I have told my children, and of course my husband. My father and sister also know. However... my sister said that God made us fat, and why should we try to be anything different!!!! *yeah.. it made me laugh too* She's heavy as well.. larger than I am.. and she's just afraid that I will be thin while she is fat. So.. I've only told 1 person at school. She's the one person I know that can actually keep a secret!! Since I'm going to be losing with the lap band, and the weight loss will be slow, I don't think people will really notice. I may be wrong, and if anyone asks me point blank.. I will tell them. It's personal. It's sorta like having hemmoroid surgery... you surely wouldn't tell anyone that!!!! *well.. I wouldn't* It's my journey.. and I think that there are MANY people out there who want us to fail. In fact... we've had the discussion at work about a co=worker who had the surgery... and how wonderful she looks. But.. the usual comments.. "as long as she can keep it off" or "golly.. she has so much skin on her body.. I'm sure it's hideous" Keep your secret.. OR.. you could just say you are having hemmoroid surgery!!! *giggle* surley no one would ask to see your scars.. *evil giggle*

  17. Dr. Trace Curry in Cincinnati, Ohio will be doing my surgery. Anyone else have him?
  18. Hello All!!! Greetings from beautiful, cold Ohio! I will have my surgery on December 27th, and I can't wait!!!! Just like many others.. I've been on diets all my life. I loose weight, then I start to feel hungry, and just want to feel full...and one thing leads to another.. then I figure that it's just not worth a diet. I'm an elementary school teacher, and will be banded over Christmas break... and haven't told anyone about the surgery. I can't wait for my Gift of a new start... Health!!! I need to loose 80 pounds to reach my goal. I'm rather big boned.. *yeah.. I know what you are thinking... but I am .. really** Anyway.. I've been reading many posts, and soooo much has been helpful. My husband and I even discuss some of the posts. Keep all that great information coming.. Big Huggs to everyone!
  19. My surgery is December 27th.... :girl_hug:
