  1. I've always been grumpy in the mornings - but agree it has gotten a little worse since surgery. For me, it is a lot about being overwhelmed right now with making the right choices. Hoping it passes.
  2. I have this premade / crusted tilapia in my freezer. I have eaten it before WLS and it is wonderful. Tilapia is on my list of approved foods for "soft foods" stage that I am in now, but I am just not sure about the tortilla crusted part. (Spicy doesn't seem to bother me.) For one filet it is 28g Protein and 17g carbs. Obviously I won't be able to eat an entire filet because it is quite large for me this early but what do you think about the crust part? Suppose it would be ok? Not sure I can scrape it off. Just trying to decide whether to try them or just toss them if it is not truly a healthy choice because of the carbs. Thoughts?
  3. I don't have children, so maybe I am not the best to weigh in on this, but my nephews (7 and 9) overheard my sister saying something to me about the surgery (about a week before). The 9 year old was very concerned and wanted to know why I was having surgery. She told him it was so I could get healthier. At the time, I had my foot in a boot for a fracture in my heel, so he promptly said "Oh good. So she won't have to wear her boot anymore". Yep! He did ask again another time, and I just told him that the drs were going to help me get healthier so I could do more stuff with him. I know your girls are older and they will see your change in eating, so it will be different than my situation, but I would think just stressing you goal for health and how it will increase your time and activity with them. Good luck! I am sure they will be supportive!
  4. @@judyoz - I think you get a pass for now! Kidney removal? Ouch!
  5. I cooked chicken in the crockpot so it would be very moist and a good "dip" with refried Beans, avocado and sour cream that I could eat and I entertained at my house. Even so, yes, I was sad when I put that very small portion on my plate. I wasn't so much craving the other goodies (even though chips and salsa really looked good!), but I just felt sad that I didn't feel "normal". The feeling passed though - for the most part. By Labor Day, it will be a little easier!
  6. I haven't exercised much. I got a stress fracture in my heel back in February and was in a boot for 9 weeks and now still have pain in my foot anytime I walk. Problem is I am using this as an excuse instead of going to ride the bike at the gym or at least moving around in the pool. I keep telling myself I will get moving as soon as I can sort out my foot issue. I hope I will! Mostly I still feel like my lazy old self...
  7. I just asked my NUT this to clarify. Mine is 30 before, none during and 30 after EXCEPT for shakes. She said no need to wait before or after the shakes but probably best to not drink anything during (i.e. don't dilute the Protein by washing it down with water).
  8. Not sure if this will help but I did my measurements yesterday and in 2 weeks I only lost 4 pounds but lost a total of 4 inches (added up from neck, arm, waist, hips, thigh and calf).
  9. So sorry u r going thru this. I'm 4 weeks out and still having issues. Yesterday was awful. Felt like I couldn't even leave the house (and this is about the 3Dr time where I actually almost passed out trying). To me, so far, this is the worst part. Better today (finally) after 2 Colace last night and a strong prescription laxative yesterday morning. I am told once we can have vegetables (fiber) it will get better. I sure hope so or next time I'm going to be in the ER!
  10. Worry about liquids above everything in the first week or so that u r home. Set an alarm on your phone if u have to for every 5 minutes and sip 1/3Dr to 1/2 ounce (out of a medicine cup works. It holds 1 ounce). First few days u will only be able to get in 1 ounce per 15 minutes so u have to stay on top of it. I'm 4 weeks out (bypass) and still struggling getting in fluids so it's tough
  11. Ditto. Premier Protein. Headed to Sam's now to buy some. $15 for 12 pack. Have paid $10 for 4 at Albertsons and $25 for 12 pack at Tom Thumb. Chocolate tastes like chocolate milk to me. The vanilla is actually breathe good too. I put a little Sugar Free Salted Caramel Syrup in it and yummy!
  12. Are those the details of the plan given to you by your surgeon? Just curious because I wasn't allowed mozzarella or hard boiled egg. Mine was only a week so it was truly liquids only and I was limited to 3 shakes a day.
  13. So more TMI - when do you know if you have an impaction and/or should call the dr? This has been a very long miserable day and still not complete relief and of course, now I have hemorrhoids making it way too painful.
  14. My plan says I can have a couple of soda /.saltine crackers. Haven't tried it yet myself
  15. I don't have any advice at all. Can you not tolerate Protein shakes? How about getting some Zofran from your dr for the nausea? Not helpful I know. Just wanted to say sorry you are going through this.
  16. Is there any chance it is kidney stone? I ask because have a chronic issue with them (pre WLS) and sometimes I will get pain way up high like almost to my shoulder blade. My drs say no way it is kidney stone and then sure enough a week or so later, I will pass one. They need to do a sonogram or X-ray (if u do suspect kidney stone). Good luck. So sorry u r dealing with this. So frustrating trying to convince drs you know your body better than they do.
  17. If this Dr won't listen, get a 2ND opinion. I know how hard that seems to do but we're it me in oak. For 4 months already, not sure I'd want to wait another 7 weeks.
  18. This should be your last really bad day (hopefully). Promise it gets better! Hang in there!
  19. I just made a new treat I thought I would share. I used 1/4 cup of 0% Fage and 1 tsp of sugar free Fat Free Jello Cheesecake pudding (mix only) and 1 tsp of Torani Sugar Free Raspberry Syrup. It was pretty good and 6g of Protein. It came out really thick, so I might use a little less of the pudding mix next time. Just thought I would share
  20. Ooh @@Djmohr that sounds wonderful! Gotta keep that one around to try soon! @@heynowkc I don't really have a recipe (though I feel like I used to). I know you don't cook it. You just use a large flat pan and then I was just going to layer fat free refried Beans on the bottom, then a layer of sour cream (or maybe Greek yogurt - maybe even mix with taco seasoning?), then a layer of guacamole (which I probably will just use plain avocados pureed with lime and some spices like cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, salt and cilantro), and then a layer of pico de gallo (chopped up onions and tomatoes which I will have to pick off), then a layer of 2% Shredded Sharp (or Mexican blend) cheese, then topped with a layer of finely chopped black olives. Hmm, that is only 6 layers. Not sure what I am missing. I think sometimes there are also jalapenos but not quite brave enough to try that yet. Actually I found this receipe. So kinda like this - https://www.weightwatchers.com/food/rcp/RecipePage.aspx?recipeid=57861 Normally served with torilla chips, but I won't be able to do that yet, so I will just eat with a fork with my (hopefully) moist shredded chicken. But it would be good in tortillas (maybe whole wheat ones?) or even in just a lettuce cup (if you can eat raw vegetables yet which I can't). Hope that helps! I am not necessarily a good cook - just a good assembler of foods.
  21. You know my mom just suggested making a kind of 7 layer dip for me that I should be able to eat still - or at least part of with my chicken - fat free refried Beans, low fat sour cream, avacados, 2% cheese, etc. Not sure I can eat the onions, tomatoes and olives yet but I can pick those off. All soft enough for me to eat. I saw on Eggface website that she used a dip like this as leftovers wrapped inside a piece of deli meat instead of a tortilla or taco shell. I haven't tried deli meat yet (I'm 4 weeks post-op today and I am still a little scared of deli meat. Worried it might be too stringy for me to chew up correctly?)
  22. @@freelee - I had RNY on June 4. I was allowed pureed foods on June 15 and I made the Ricotta Bake that day for lunch. It is really good but I do fill up on it fairly quick. I do love fat free refried Beans and tolerate them well (as long as I don't eat it too fast which I made the mistake of doing yesterday). I add in a little greek yogurt to make it a little creamier and then some spices like cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and cilantro. Really hope my "incident" yesterday doesn't turn me off of the beans because I did really enjoy them. I have tried scrambled eggs twice and while I tolerate them ok, I just don't really like them. I have always eaten eggs with salsa and just haven't been adventurous enough to do that yet. I can only eat about 1/2 the egg before I am just done. I have also tolerated pimento cheese very well. I saw a recipe where someone mixed unflavored Protein powder with the light mayo and then mixed in the cheese and pimentos but I admit I just bought the premade one and haven't added any Protein Powder to it yet. (I tried that with mashed potatoes and it was awful. I clearly made it wrong.) I have also tolerated hummus quite well. Still experimenting with everything. I am not an overly adventurous eater in the first place, so trying to take it slow. Oh, I also had some tortilla soup with a little bit of chicken chewed really well and some avocado. All went fine with that too. Having people over for the holiday and plan on trying some chicken thighs cooked in the crockpot in broth (and lime and garlic and cilantro) and hoping it will be moist enough for me to try it. I won't be able to eat much but I think it will make me feel more "normal" like my guests.
  23. On the pureed stage I find I am having getting meals with much Protein. I will still have to have shakes (for a long time it seems). If you haven't checked out TheWorldAccordingToEggface website, be sure to do so. She has a recipe for Ricotta Bake that is basically a noodleless / meatless lasagna kind of thing. It was one of the first things I ate and it tasted SO good. Has some pretty good protein count due to the cheeses.
  24. I'm thinking of making Cilantro Lime chicken in the crockpot. http://www.thehouseofhendrix.com/recipes/crockpot-cilantro-lime-chicken/ If I make it with chicken thighs, I am hoping it will be moist enough for me to at least try.
