Restaurant idea!
What a great idea! I want someone to start a cooking class for bariatric patients in my area - teaching us how to cook some great high Protein, low carb meals. I know there are lots of recipes online but not quite the same...

Pre op diet concern for post op patients
You might try an almond or soy milk? Sometimes that helps. Otherwise, yea, your stomach does gurgle a lot. Just wait until after surgery! Totally worth it though! I drank a lot of broth - especially Swanson's Tortilla Soup broth. It was WONDERFUL but a little spicy and I had to back off of it after drinking so much of it for 4 or 5 days. sugar free Popsicles help too. Hang in there! You can do this!

Spicy foods tomatoe bases and acids!?
I ate Shelly's Ricotta Bake (marinara sauce and Italian spices) the first day I could move to mushy foods - Day 15 post-op. I have also had some Siracha spice on some items because I was craving spicy. No issues for me - yet....

Don't feel like I had surgery
@@Mobeans63 - if it makes you feel better, I am 47 and was 43-45 BMI at surgery time and also have had no complications - until I tried tuna which didn't stay down. I think I just didn't chew it well enough - so still not a complication. And I wasn't someone that had been exercising a lot before. In fact, I am (was) Type 2 Diabetic, Graves Disease (thyroid disorder), had a stress fracture in my heal, blah blah blah. All to say, don't think if you are slightly older or have a slightly higher BMI or aren't as in good of a shape as you wish, that you won't have a complication free procedure. I am proof that is still possible! Best of luck to you! Just do exactly as your doctor and NUT tell you!

Waiting on cigna approval or denial
Mine was very quick. Submitted Friday at noon, approved Monday morning. Feel free to call Cigna and be sure they got it and see what the status is. I had to do that when trying to sort out my sleep study because the dr's office hadn't really done that part correctly.

Documented Weight loss Attempt
If you are using insurance, it depends on your actual insurance. Here is what mine said (Cigna) so I would agree if you can document your WW attempts and have you PCP sign off, it might work: "Medical management including evidence of active participation within the last 12 months in a weight-management program that is supervised either by a physician or a registered dietician for a minimum of three consecutive months ((i.e., ≥ 89 days). The weight-management program must include monthly documentation of ALL of the following components: weight current dietary program physical activity (e.g., exercise program) Programs such as Weight Watchers®, Jenny Craig® and Optifast® are acceptable alternatives if done in conjunction with the supervision of a physician or registered dietician and detailed documentation of participation is available for review. However, physician-supervised programs consisting exclusively of pharmacological management are not sufficient to meet this requirement. "

3 months out, need help with food pleeeaaaase!
I am only 3 weeks post-op and have been adding spices to my pureed foods - like cilantro, garlic powder, cumin, etc. to my fat free refried Beans. I had roasted garlic hummus today with no issues. (I have even used a siracha dried spice I found a couple of times in small amounts.) Definitely use your spices! Just start light and see how you do before making it too spicy.

Too much weight loss
Still being on liquids will definitely cause you to lose faster? How come you cannot transfer to at least pureed? Fear or has it made you sick? Let us know and maybe we can give you some suggestions. I can certainly tell you fear was a big reason for me to not move on but I have one small meal at a time.

finally feeling like myself
That's encouraging to hear! I am 3 weeks and couple of days and have been very tired last few days. Hoping I am right on track with you by my 4 week. thank you for sharing! It gives us all hope!

I'm obsessed with wls
Yes definitely obsessed pre-op and still 3 weeks post-op. I check this website SO many times a day too! I think it has become my new addiction. Not sure if that is a good thing or bad! Congrats on getting closer!

First bad food experience :( - Guess it's too early for tuna
Ugh! Sorry! I am told we should try it again in a few days but I think I will pass.
-
Time off work
I took 2 1/2. Wish I had taken 3 1/2 to 4.

3 days post op
Gas-X and heating pad. I even tried a yoga pose called "child's pose". That helped expel the gas when I felt like it was definitely moving. Other than that time....

Pudding
I have just now used it in puree phase mixed with Protein powder. I think my book said I could have it in liquid phase but only if it was thinned down a lot with milk or Water. That sounded gross to me, so I waited.

Yes Virgina, There Is a Bypass Claus...

First bad food experience :( - Guess it's too early for tuna
I have been eating Fat Free Refried Beans with a little bit of unflavored Greek yogurt and shredded cheese. That has been my favorite so far. Also, the Ricotta Bake from theworldaccordingtoeggface website. It is wonderful! I had scrambled eggs this morning and they stayed down fine but didn't taste good without salsa I usually put on them (and wasn't sure if it was too early for spicy). I have also had sugar free/fat free pudding cup mixed with unflavored protein powder. Still drinking my shakes too to get in enough protein Still experimenting.

Oh happy day!
Congrats!!!

Insurance Question
I had mine done by my Endocrinologist but he basically said the same thing - unable to sustain markedly improved weight loss. It was pretty simple. If you have only seen her twice, I might make an appt to just go talk to her about this. I'm sure she won't be as opposed as you think. Not trying to discount your feelings, They are real and I would be (and was) anxious too.

What do you use to transport your protein powder?
I got these at Bed Bath & Beyond - http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/product/blenderbottle-reg-prostack-trade-22-oz-full-color-bottle/3254880?Keyword=blender+bottle - it has 2 little containers with each bottle and the larger one is just big enough to hold 1 scoop of Protein. There is also a little thing inside the lid of one of the containers that lets you transport Vitamins. Has worked great for me!

How long will it hurt to swallow?
Try smaller sips and smaller bites. That really helps. The pain can be from being full or from being able to take in too much at once. And try to slow it down a little. In the beginning, I set a timer and sipped every 5 minutes. You are very very early on and re-learning your new anatomy. When something hurts, try something new out while you are figuring out what that pain/discomfort means. hang in there. I felt MUCh better on Day 7.

Three days post-op - pressure?
Sounds like acid reflux. I have been taking Zantac daily since my surgery. It seems to help. You might call your surgeon's office and get it okayed.
