GingerDiane got a reaction from jenbaby75 in Waiting for Insurance approval, CPAP, preop diet
Ive been on CPAP..I know how intimidating it can be wearing this mask etc...tolerate it as even if you get an hour or so..its all registered on the SD card..I had this problem last month..sometimes notcwearing it as ive fallen asleep on sofa...or put mask on..couldnt sleep..turned it off..it can be bloody annoying! But no matter how much youre using this machine...it does help. Why not just go on a milk diet? Wuth home made low carb smoothies? ...wirh me its all or nothing....id rather just follow a all luquid diet..but if needs be..a peice of fruit if I yearn to chew.

I'm 19 yrs old and have been considering surgery since I was about 17 since I've dealt with obesity my whole life.
My surgery was Nov 18, 2014. I started at 298 and am now at 254! Only 7 weeks out of surgery but have seen a huge difference in how I look!
It's so funny that I look in the mirror every day and always tell myself that I don't see any changes and feel upset and then I actually look at the pics I took right before surgery and how much I've changed. Literally puts me in tears!
Of course I'm still in progress, my goal is to be about 120, I'm hoping that happens! I'm really short, 5'1 so technically that's pushing almost still being overweight lol.
I can't wait to be a year out and look as great as all of you guys! Everyone here is such an inspiration ????

My motivation is RESULTS! I walk outside at my city's park. Three to four miles, four to five days a week. When I log it on MyFitnessPal and see the calories burned it motivates me. On days that I don't get to go, I feel like a slug! It also keeps my blood sugar low and I need less medication. I regret not doing as much in the beginning as I do now!!!! My legs look outstanding! I hold in my stomach muscles while walking and its firming my lower abdomen. My stamina is off the charts and it give me energy all day!! So many benefits!!! Hard to start, but once its a habit, it is hard to break.

Hmmm. I had a hiatal hernia diagnosed during the barium swallow test and the PA told me the probably won't do anything about it. That kind of bothered me because now that I know about it I want it fixed. Another thing they told me is that I am a slow swallower and its another thing they don't do anything about.
I am telling you, I didn't think I was all that healthy before I started this journey but all these little picayune things they discovered make me feel even sicker.
    Bring on the sleeve!

GingerDiane reacted to heynowkc in How much did everyone lose before surgery?
I haven't had surgery yet (waiting for a date) but I have lost and gained the same 20 pounds over the past 12 months, trying and failing to follow the goals I set each month with my coach. The last time I actually gained an extra 10 pounds on top of the 20 I kept gaining and losing all year.
But, I guess something clicked in me on September 29th. Not even 2 months ago I weighed in at my max 491. Now I am down to 438. Lost over 50 pounds and lose more almost every day. Really cut back, focused on Protein, cut out most carbs, almost all processed carbs/sugar and am faithfully tracking on my WW app. But what's really done it for me is that I make sure to do something physical or go to the gym almost every single day. Water aerobics and rotisserie chickens. If I take an "off" day I try to go shopping or something where I'm at least walking around a bit.
And honestly? I think I didn't have the motivation to do all of this until I joined dietbet. (Around Oct 7th.) Getting paid to lose weight is incredibly rewarding. You just join a game and bet a certain amount (my first was 15 dollars) and at the end of the month you split the winnings with everyone else who has lost at least 4% in 4 weeks time. I will have to quit the site once I have surgery, because I will be disqualified for losing too much too quickly, but for right now, it is an amazing incentive!

Hi all you January Sleevers!!! I can't wait. A new year and a new me!!!
After my Dietitian's visit the other day I am starting to implement some new habits BEFORE my operation...
    1) I have a 2 litre (68oz) Water jug on my kitchen bench and I'm "trying" to get closer to being able to drink all this in a day
    2) I usually have 1tsp of sugar in my green tea, now I'm down to 1/2 tsp with the goal being none
    3) I'm trying to get more aware when I get that 'full feeling' and stop eating
    4) My chronic Plantar Fasciitis in both feet, means I cannot walk very far, but having a couple of short walks every day around the house and outside even if it does hurt. I will need to do alot more, but some weight is going to have to come off first
Good Luck Everyone...it will be here before we know it!

GingerDiane reacted to dropdeadweightdiva in Almost 1 yr post op-willing to mentor :)
I started at 287 lbs. I focused the first 6 weeks on drinking and healing. I started taking Calcium citrate, Vitamin D and a prenatal Vitamin daily once I was allowed to do so. Recently I stopped taking the Calcium as my nutritionist and I decided that I consume a fair amount of calcium naturally on a daily basis so the extra is just not necessary for me. As far as boosting the weight loss...Initially to get my Protein in I used the typical shakes, bought skim milk powder and unflavoured Protein Powder to add to things. But worry less about Protein for the first little while and more about getting in fluids because if you don't you'll find yourself dizzy, ditzy and the headaches are pretty unpleasant and will linger if you don't sip sip sip. lol I live in Canada so my access to some brands is more limited... I started out just walking on a daily basis and just increased the time and intensity week by week. Now, for me, walking is more of a nature thing as it doesn't bring my heart rate up enough to be effective the way I want it to be. But to start walking is a great way, just fill your ipod with music you love and that makes you feel good, and has an upbeat tempo to help keep you paced. Considering how early you are in this stage of your journey, right now worry less about the scale and more about healing and adjusting to your new diet.

I just got inspired by your story. I too have been eating things I know are emttpty calories. I received bad news about my mom and it seems to have made me emotionally eat like I used to. You are very brave and I hope you can find some help here. You have already helped me enormously. I am going to get back on track because of you. Thanks!
