I just finished spending three hours taping to paint a room. Getting on the floor. Climbing ladders. Bending over. Reaching in awkward positions. And I'm not sore or tired. I'm ready to go all night. I forgot what it's like to be skinny. No worries that climbing the side of the scaffold would flip it cause I'm heavier that it is. Yes I climbed it before at 325 and It was scary.
This is my second chance to lead a normal life. I would do it a million times over. I miss food yes. But I missed being skinny more!

First check up with my surgeon today and I am a little over 3 weeks out! I am 30lbs down ( had a stall when I started phase 2 diet) and everything went really well! My doctor said I can have coffee again yay! Nut said I'm ready for denser foods. I wonder if anyone else had this issue.....I have had several dizzy or lightheaded spells. My doctor said it was because I am not getting enough sodium & I need to add more salt to my diet. I never would have guessed that! My nut said to start eating deli lunch meat. They also said I should lose 60lbs over the next 2-1/2 months! That seems impossible! I will do my best to make it happen by following the plan & exercising, but it is very hard to imagine that I will lose that much!

Well discovered that acid in my stomach was mimicking hunger so a couple days on Prilosec totally pulled that back under control. Great weight loss first 8 days then bam, dead stop. Really? I expected that at 3 weeks but not this soon. Getting about 60-70g Protein, 50-65oz Water. Walking alot in shopping mode and up and down stairs alot. Going out to do some light yard work today. Hoping it kick starts again because my mind is already saying great this won't work for me either. I know you all can't be wrong though.

That's exactly what I am doing to...have a load of laundry going now. I gotta say I am a bit bored but am determined to continue to take it easy and heal properly. Tomorrow I may go a friend's house and sit by the pool with her........what's the difference between sitting here and sitting there for a couple of hours!?!

I know what you mean. I did eat and if you do...it will feel like a ton of bricks on your chest and heartburn like you never knew existed. Plus, you can hurt your stomach staples that are healing. I felt the same way tho...almost like I haven't had surgery.

    Eyhornmom,
Just from the responses on this thread, you can see you’re not alone, and hopefully that will give you hope that you can get over the worst of your struggles soon.
One thing I would like to ask you is about what you said: “I want to be able to go out to eat and enjoy eating with my family. It makes me a little sad that those are all things that I can no longer have, probably ever.”
This may not be the case. What do you enjoy about eating with your family? If it is (or was) the feeling of going out and overeating, you’re right – you may never be able to do that again, at least not without feeling sick.
But if what you enjoy is the company of your family, you’ll be able to do that soon enough. Maybe it just takes a change of attitude: what do you live for? And it’s tough, because maybe you used to live (or think you lived) for food, and now that you don’t, you need to figure out what you live for. And you can.
Maybe instead of eating a chicken pot pie and an order of fries to enjoy the eating occasion, you’ll change so you can get the same pleasure from a chicken breast and some broccoli.
In the meantime, it’s perfectly normal to feel depressed and to question your decision. After all, one of your biggest crutches (food) is gone, and to make it worse, you’re eating only pureed foods. Anyone would get depressed on that!
Hang in there, and good luck.

Just take it one day at a time! I was four weeks post-op from my sleeve yesterday and how I feel now is night and day different how I felt two weeks ago! When I was just about two weeks out from my surgery I found myself experiencing anxiety attacks, wondering what exactly I had gotten myself into!! I took my kids out to our newly opened Mellow Mushroom pizza place and I wanted to cry because I couldn't partake in the food that was my weakness!! However fast forward two weeks to where I am now, 30lbs lighter, wearing clothes I have not worn in close to TWO years, so much more full of energy, people asking me what I am doing, as I look good and it feels WONDERFUL!! Better than any alice of pizza ever could!! Plus now that I am onto soft foods, I have found some wonderful bariatric friendly recipes on a BE website via Facebook that even my kids enjoy! Things will get better and you will be feeling better! If you do not find yourself feeling better though maybe consider finding a therapist who specializes in talking with people who have had bariatric surgery! It is a life changing process and not any easy one at that, but better health and a longer life is worth it!

I got the sleeve on April 6. I'm not sure what is hunger and what is healing it what is being sore just yet. I believe we need to drink to stay hydrated. I have been having broth, Optifast shakes, diet Jello and different flavored crystal lights and Water. It takes an hour to finish 8 ounces of a shake. I make sure to always have a cup next to me.
It's only been 5 days and I am already wanting to eat. I almost feel like I'm in rehab and breaking a food addiction. Good luck to all

Do not be afraid you are going to fail. I went through exactly what you are going through. Yes you are in starvation mode. your body doesnt know that you are trying to lose weight for your health, All it knows is that you are starving therefore it is trying to help you by keeping your body fat. Try to eat some ricotta and drink your Protein shakes. You will be fine. I know you are afraid cause i was too but that is the old diet mentality coming through. We all tried and failed so much that it is locked in our brains. You will succeed and you will eventually be hungry again. All that is expected of you is your best and no more than that. Try to eat what you can and you will move on to other varieties of food. My issue was the lack of options. If you ever need to just vent send me a message.

So we had to return a piece of 4 x 8 sheer of breadboard to Menards today. My husband said lean against this board it was against the side if our enclosed trailer. So I did. The wind caught the board lifted me off the ground and threw me back to the ground. Scraping my hand and my knee. THAT WOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED AT ALMOST THREE HUNDRED POUNDS! But at the same time it made me feel good at 5'9 and 139 pounds that the wind blew me away. Lol. So when people tell me the wind will blow you away. I know now it literally can. A big NSV I could have done without.

I'm really starting to struggle in another way. This has been way too easy. I almost feel like my Sleeve isn't working and i could eat anything. My stomach makes alot of noise but no pain, no nausea. I'm on pureed and made a smoothie. Kept sipping and just never felt that STOP feeling. It's taking willpower to not only have 2oz. This isn't what i expected. I almost want to eat something awful just to see if my Sleeve stops me. Any advice?

I agree. It's part mental game. I also really wanted to embrace eating better as a lifestyle change. I no longer think of "bad" food or "cheat days". I didn't want to have negative connotations with my eating. I wanted to develop the skills to have the occasional cookie, or piece of chocolate without being victim to cravings or binging. I like having the ability to walk away from food now.

@ woo woo Thank you. I was spiraling a bit tonight. It was the first day the scale didn't go down (i need to stop the daily check) and I'm just hungry to the point my stomach growls. Drinking Water so I've heard acid can cause/mimic hunger. Thinking of going back on Prilosec. I'm grateful i haven't had complications and pain and nausea but frustrated that I feel like I'm ready for a piece of chicken.< /p>

I would be surprised if every person who has gone through WLS did not mourn food. First of all, it is probably because you are in the pureed stage and emotional following surgery which is making it worse.
This surgery is not for the feint of heart. It is very hard work, most of it mental. You have to stay positive and focus on all the reasons you had the surgery in the first place. Do not spend wasted time focusing on the negatives, it will only make you feel worse and that ultimately means you will struggle, like you are.
Keep your eye on the prize whether it was health reasons or simply because you wanted to lose weight. Pull your goals out that you wrote before surgery and remind yourself why you chose to have surgery.
I promise you will make it past this phase and if you stick to the right foods pretty soon you will crave healthy foods and not all the other stuff that made you heavy to begin with.
Also, having WLS does not mean that you will never eat those things again. You will simply have them once in a great while and in very small portions.
I wish you all the best, keep your head up and stay positive, it will help you succeed.
