Someone explained this earlier I wish I had saved the post. Basically the first 2 weeks your're losing Water weight and you're body is in shock from the surgery. By week 3 you're body is settled into your new eating routine. I'll echo what everyone else is saying, stay off the scales. I actually don't weight myself more than once a month. The scale will make you crazy. Look for other NSV(non-scale victories). For example now would be a good time take your measurements. I just did mine today and I'm down 3 - 4 inches all over.If you must weight yourself only weigh once a week at the same time of day and in the same location.

No worries! What you are going through is COMPLETELY NORMAL. You just had major surgery, your body is in shock and adjusting. Like you said, you know you aren't eating enough (it's physically impossible) for you to gain. It's a combination of Water, shock from the surgery, the dreaded 3 week stall (search the forum for "The Dreaded 3 Week Stall" and it will give you an idea of why this happens.
One thing I will say is stay off the scale right now. You have more important things to worry about right now like getting your liquids and Protein. Try really hard to not weigh yourself every day, it just causes undo anxiety that you don't need. Hop on in a couple more weeks and you will be pleasantly surprised. I promise! Hang in there!

I think it takes a special kind of person to end up 600+ pounds. I see a very similar trend with those that do this..absolute control, of their environment, people, etc. if they stay the way they are, people with cater to them, and they can be a victim. I am not saying that is true 100% of the time, but it is true much of the time. In fact, ALL of the obese people I know, have serious anxiety and control issues, in other words, when they feel out of control, they have major anxiety. Shame on her for not accepting the help she was given, shame on her husband for not helping her, so she can actually live a long, healthy life. The rest of us have to work hard, and pay for our things.

Measure all of your body parts and put the scale away. Use your measurements and smaller clothing to gauge your progress.

I think they are great and the only ones I can stomach. They are actually on sale this week at costco at least in Canada.

Definitely try them! They are the ONLY shake I can drink -- I am four months out and have one pretty much every morning - have a cup of coffee (my treat) and sip a chocolate Protein shake over ice. I tried so many different shakes both pre-op and post-of and this is the only one that I can drink. Agree it takes like chocolate milk. You're lucky to belong to a costco - I order mine from Amazon . . .

I drink one everyday for lunch usually. Before surgery I used them on my pre op diet but had to cut them with 4oz of milk they were to sweet for me. After surgery I still cut them with skim milk for awhile because of the thickness, but after a couple weeks I was good to go drinking them on their own.
costco has them $5 off a case limit two. My hubby bought two and I bought two, great savings!!!!

I can only drink the Premier Protein shakes. In the beginning they were even hard to get down but what I did pre surgery was gulp them down so I barely tasted them. Over time they have grown on me and I actually enjoy them.

Premier Protein shakes taste so good I'm afraid they're going to come out as having falsified their nutrition information.
Isopure clear to me have been disgusting; coconut is the only one I can drink.
Jay Robb is pretty good insofar as no after taste, to me... but they're not as rich as Premier.
Unjury's chicken broth is yummy... but don't mix it with really hot Water. You can put their chocolate in a cup of coffee for a mocha, but again - you don't want it much hotter than hot bath Water or it clumps.
I love Health Smart's pink lemonade concentrate from Nashua Nutrition - but they're currently on back order.
SO many different Protein Drink options, there's no reason to choke down disgusting.

I have found the smaller and thinner the shake, the easier it goes down. Premier's premixed shakes have 30g Protein in 11 oz. Walmart, Walgreens, and Sam's Club sell them. Good luck!

Do you live in a area where there is no sun most days and it's cold from the weather and snow and stuff? I get like that in the winter all the time? Winter Blues? This holiday time doesn't help either. I have been feeling the same way, you have to find new ways of picking yourself up and moving forward. It's not easy but you just have to keep moving. Good Luck!!!

Buttercupbrown reacted to Kindle in Did anyone eat below 400 or 300 calories for a year post op after gastric sleeve?
I did not have an appetite for about 3 months, two of which were because I was on a medication that made me nauseous. As soon as I stopped the medication, I was hungry. But even with no appetite I was getting 500-800 calories. Since then I have always eaten at least every 2-3 hours because that's how often I'm hungry. And that's with getting 3-4x the calories you are talking about. But a tiny bit satisfies and I move on. You can't possibly expect the sleeve to stop your body from feeling hunger. Even with the reduction in gherlin (which, BTW is produced in other parts of the body) the fatigue, low blood sugar, weakness, cognitive disfunction and depression as a result of a 300-400 calorie diet is your body's way of saying I'M HUNGRY!!! I guess my suggestion is to do more research to see exactly what VSG is all about. And obviously look at the many many ways you can be successful postop. And DEFINITELY get a second opinion from another Bariatric surgeon. If yours is proposing a year of 300-400 calorie restriction, he certainly doesn't seem to have much real life experience with VSG patients. And he obviously has no interest in your wellbeing. Believe me, what he is proposing is not possible. Go ahead, try it for two weeks, see how you feel and then multiply by 25. Having part of your stomach removed doesn't negate your body's nutritional requirements (not to mention the mental part of it). Like someone else on here said, the initial 6-12 months postop should be spent learning how to eat healthy and establishing new habits that will last a lifetime. It's not about torturing your mind and body or to see just how fast you can lose weight.
On the other hand, if malabsorption is what you are looking for, then find another surgeon that will do the procedure you want.

I've read that left shoulder pains are common when experiencing a leak in the sleeve. I've had that some today, but it's not constant. Just wondering if anybody else has had that pain and it NOT been a leak.

I am not clear on your pre-op regiment, BUT you are post op now. A few things to consider. Do you want to stand up from a chair with less pain, do you want to tie your shoes the first time you try, do you want to turn over in bed with far better ease, do you want to walk a few steps without being out of breath, do you want to stop worrying about taking a fall and no one being able to pick you up, do you want to stop being the person who goes nowhere and has nothing to wear, do you want anything? What do you want? You now have a tool, don't be afraid to use it to change for the better. Is it possible that the changes from weight loss will change your identity and where you will fit in afterwards, and you won't know who you are? Embrace change, all of it, both the mental and the physical. Change can be frightening. Seek out a nutritionist or a psychologist to assist you in accepting the changes. You have support here, but you may want to seek professional guidance as well. Wishing you every success

You might try going to an overeaters ananymous meeting. You might find a support system there. I am appalled at the insensitivity of your family. You deserve good things sweetie. Try to do this one day at a time, make the best choices you can, and don't beat yourself up.

You can and will get through this! Remember you are not alone in this fight and I think its safe to say you have an army of people on these boards who have your back!
Only the present is exists; not the past nor the future. Concentrate on happiness right now. Easier said than done, I know but its a good habit to get into.

I know how you feel. I was kinda low. The day of surgery I weighed 200lbs. and that was on Nov. 18th and last week I weighed 194. Well I've just started ( last week) hitting the gym and this week I've pushed it to 1hr. Cardo 5 dys wk and 2dys light weights. Its moving Slow for me too. But I've always heard ( even without surgery ) the heavier you are the more you loose. Just keep chipping away at it and you will begin to see results. I feel like I'm loosing a lot of inches. It will get better.
