I have an amazing recipe for chipotle that you can use during the pureed food stage. Hit me up if you are interested. I also have other pureed recipes on my blog like an alfredo sauce. Check it out if you are interested!

Caffeine is a BIG no, no....
I quit a major Diet Coke habit way before surgery and I am glad I did it before hand because carbonated drinks of any kind are not good for your gastric bypass. So no soda, no sparkling Water, no club soda.
Caffeine acts like a diuretic also.
So get rid of this habit now so your body is clear of it before surgery.

I thin mine out and eat them like a Soup with a little cheese on top. If you are just starting the soft foods...it will be easier to go down.

I post about all kinds of things on this forum knowing that if I'm feeling them, or experiencing them, so are others. So..I don't feel that I can leave out the fact that I've begun dating again. Scary stuff...and especially as I'm right in the middle of body image issues, and this brings up rejection issues, and control issues for me. I feel like I'm walking in a field of landmines. Talk about being vulnerable...sheesh.
So last night, the fella I've been dating for a couple of months is coming to my apartment. My train is late and I get home and text him to find out if he's on his way. Turns out he's already waiting for me and comes up a couple of minutes later. I'm still in my work clothes..which happens to be a very handsome dress in a rust/coral color and he stares at me and says that I look fantastic in that dress and the only thing that would look better is if I was out of that dress..lol.
It's been such a long time since anyone has shown that kind of attention to me. I'm not a kid so no worries about being swept off my feet by a few choice words but it none the less, warmed my heart to know that someone wanted me again. Desired me again. I must be somewhat attractive for an older and somewhat wrinkly old broad.
I feel like I'm on a high today in the office. This was not on my radar. My WLS was to allow me to walk without pain and to get my mobility back. That was the plan. This romance stuff has been a really nice addition to the mix. Yes, I know putting myself out there is risky but right now I'm enjoying it and I hope to keep on enjoying it. If it's vanity, well so be it. I think I deserve a little vanity after all I've been through. I'm so happy to know that I don't have any surgeries coming up in 2015. That sentence alone tells you some of what I've been through.
So friends...back to my conference call. Break's over. Have a great rest of the day everyone!

Yes, make sure they are the fat free kind. I am able to split one can into five meals with each one being a little over 1/4 cup.

Hi! I'm new to this, but wanted to chime in. I'm scheduled for vsg on 3/20/15 and have slowly trying to kick my bad habits. Soda for me was a huge part of my life! I'm talking wake up and drink a coke, go to bed drinking a coke and not to mention all the cokes I drank during the day!!!! I decided to try to kick this addiction prior to my life style change. I started off slow switching from coke to diet. I drank one less coke a week until I only had three a day. Next was subbing one diet for one diet caffeine free until I was fine with all caffeine free. One day I just started getting Water. I have not had soda of any kind in 7 months!
Good luck to you, it's a hard thing to give up but well worth it!

@@MamaTo3inNH Willpower is a heck of a thing! Before my surgery I literally lived on coffee and maybe 16oz of Water for fluids...ridiculous! When I found out I couldn't have it anymore I just quit. No sense in chancing misery while trying to recover. On the plus side if you do get headaches now you can take medicine for it. I thought I would get headaches but I didn't. I don't even miss coffee anymore (unless I see a Starbucks then I kinda do but I just think of the SUGAR) So the choice is yours either way I wish you luck!

MamaTo3inNH reacted to Kindle in Changing how I consume my protein
So I've noticed there's been a few comments about how we can only absorb 20 grams of Protein at a time and the rest is just wasted. I never really looked into that until now. A quick google search revealed we actually absorb even less than that....
    "Protein Absorption Rate in Humans
    July 6, 2007
According to this study, A Review of Issues of Dietary Protein Intake in Humans, written by Shane Bilsborough and Neil Mann, it states…
Absorption rates of amino acids from the gut can vary from 1.4 g/h for raw egg white to 8 to 10 g/h for whey protein isolate. Slowly absorbed amino acids suchas casein (~ 6 g/h) and repeated small doses of whey protein (2.9 g per 20 min, totaling ~ 7 g/h) promote leucine balance, a marker of protein balance, superior tothat of a single dose of 30 g of whey protein or free amino acids which are both rapidly absorbed (8 to 10 g/h), and enhance amino acid oxidation.
Quite interesting. It drives home the point that eating smaller portioned meals of less than 15-10 grams of protein is optimal. It also tells us that ingesting 40 grams of protein whey for post-workout drink is not only a waste of money as it gets excreted or is converted into carbs and then stored as body fat, among other things."
...there's a bunch more papers and articles that pretty much repeat these same stats.
So up until now I thought I was doing pretty good on my protein goals because I always have 1 mega Protein shake (40g protein 24-32oz fluid) every morning, usually taking 1-2 hours to drink it. According to the articles, I MIGHT be utilizing 1/2 or less of that protein. So I am going to split my shake in two and drink half in the morning and the other 1/2 later in the afternoon. Guess I'll just alternate taking drinks of Water to make the shake last at least an hour and a half. I'm not too worried about my food protein intake since my meals/snacks are so small anyways and are probably under the 10g mark.
Anyways, I thought this was a very valuable tidbit and wanted to share.

Congratulations I don't have any kids yet, glad your husband will be home to help out! Best of luck, I hope I get my surgery date soon.
I thought about taking pics too. Maybe in a certain outfit that is tight now, or jeans that fit you comfortably. Naked pics if you're brave! Or maybe in undies.

Hi everyone! I'm new to the forums here, I've been lurking for a few months reading everyone's stories and ups and downs. I'll definitely post my story in the introduction section, but for right now I have a question.
How did you prepare for your surgery? Not talking about the pre-op diet, more like did you take pictures in a certain outfit or buck naked or anything of that nature? How did you prepare your house/bedroom/where you'd be spending your few days recouping when you're on pain meds still? I've got 3 kids, 3 8 and 12, and hubby will be home with me for a few days, so I'm not absolutely stressed about minding the kids, more about taking care of me!
    Thanks!
