  1. There is protein in nearly everything including vegetables. It doesn't make sense to eat NO vegetables. Even a small amount could help alleviate some of the constipation so many sleevers seem to have.
  2. Things I learned about pool exercise: It's really good for bad joints/arthritis, etc... The people at the gym don't really care about your size. Get out of your head and do what's good for you! I have never been embarrassed or ashamed about who I am or what size I was. That's why I'm at the gym.
  3. why do a fad diet if you're already o a bariatric diet. Just continue to follow docs orders and push through the stall.
  4. Not if that's her doctor's instructions.
  5. I did. My doctor said as long as they didn't irritate the incisions it was okay
  6. What are you eating? I eat pretty much every I ate before WLS but in much smaller portions. My BMs are pretty much the same as before. The only difference is I only go one or two times a day whereas before I was often at least 3 times a day or more. Still I'll take one regular a day over constipation any day.
  7. It depends on my day. I eat lighter on days I don't go to the gym. I avg between 700 - 900, but occasionally I am high or lower. For example, this was a crazy week with doctor's appointments and such. I had 2 days where I was just under 700 and today I was at 926. I think most days I hit around 850. The difference is I was running around like cray today and I started my day with a really vigorous aquafit class. I hit 6mth on the 18th.
  8. Don't forget many people have discovered the can easily eat slider foods. Imagine if instead of eating small amounts of Protein and veg all day. You just eat pudding all day or you eat noodles all day. but just small amounts. You've spent the day eating small amounts of food that aren't protein or veg. Your body doesn't have anything to nourish it and the foods you have consumed are full of carbs and sugar. That's how people regain. Some people handle the food thing differently and honestly don't weigh and measure when they are at goal. However, these are people who are vigilant enough to actually seek out protein first. You have to be honest with yourself. If not weighing/measuring will allow you to delude yourself that you can have something bad "just this one time" and that one time happens every day, then you may be the person who needs to weigh and measure forever. If you can honestly handle winging it, then I say go for it.
  9. Dress for Success is a national organization so if you don't know of a local one, message them on their site.
  10. Some people do not get that full feeling until they are eating solids foods. Basically liquids run right through you. Give it time. It will happen.
  11. That's true with whatever WLS option your take. I personally know people who managed to eat around their lap band and several people who managed to eat around Bypass. This can't be said often enough. This is a tool, not a cure. No matter what surgery your take you still need to make a lifestyle change to healthier eating habits or risk regaining.
  12. I was cleared to resume exercise after 2 weeks and Water aerobics after 3. I was told I could do whatever I could handle. I mostly do aquafit so I resumed that. We use water weights so I get cardio and weight training. I also use hand weights at home. I recently also started doing kettleball workouts and riding my bike occasionally. I believe weight lifting is important for toning, but I also think consistency is key. I work out 5 - 6 days a week. Basically I make sure to get some exercise in everyday.
  13. Better safe than sorry. Try not to borrow trouble. Even if your surgery is delayed, better a delay than post-op complications.
  14. I used to carry granola bars in my pocketbook all the time. However regulations change frequently. Your best bet is to check the TSA's website.
  15. Do you have a teacher's assistant? Otherwise I'd say no. Energy wise if all goes well you could return in 2 weeks, but with little people that you might have to or need to pick up, I'd say, "No" unless you have an assistant who could do the picking up and stuff. Also keep in mind you need to be able to sip for most of the day.
  16. You are not wrong for being mad. Just don't hold a grudge. It only hurts you. However when my mother did this I told her. "I asked you to keep this in confidence. since you were unable to do that, do not expect to know anything else about my personal life. You have just shown me you are not to be trusted." I meant every word of it. After I said my peace I let it go.
  17. *SIGH* I'm taking a pretty hard hit. I have 4 bags of clothes going to the goodwill. 1 large bag I'm going to try and sell on Facebook or a consignment shop. I have a Anna Scholtz dress I paid $250 for that I wore all of 4 times. Another dress I paid $99 and wore once. I have several fully lined work suits and a full length wool coat I wore this winter until it simply looked like I was wearing a very large blanket. I have some dresses I'm taking to my local Dress for Success store. They work with helping people return to the work force and when I was a case worker I recall they always needed plus sized work attire. I'll keep the receipts and try and get the tax write off, but there's not much else to do. ETA: On face book the groups are Fat Too & Fat Too Grand.
  18. @@GEAUX SAINTS - makes good points. Consult your doctor/nutritionist about how to adjust you intake to make this successful for you. In the meantime I would recommend staying away from binge-y and slider foods.
  19. I gave up soda 4 ½ years ago. Since then except for the occasional coffee or tea I pretty much only drink almond milk or water so my body was already conditioned to drinking plain water. In the summer I sometimes put cucumber and mint in the infuser, but for the most part I'm a water gal. Other than the first week when I had to work to drink anything, I don't even think about it anymore. I just fill a bottle and always carry it around with me.
  20. @@lisa0617 - can you do walking? You will lose w/o exercising, but even something low impact like walking can help .
  21. Agreed. Since I didn't have a pre-op diet, my biggest loss was in the first 2 weeks of surgery. At my 2 week f/u I was down 26lbs. That has slowed to a more reasonable 10 -12 lbs a month and one month I "only" loss 6lbs. However the scale continues to go in the right direction so I'm not sweating it. AMEN! There are fast out the gate losers, slow but steady losers and everything in between. Do not expect miracles or compare yourself to others. Just follow the program. Protein first, then veg. Get your fluids in and try to exercise even if it's just walking.
  22. Plain water. I may add a 3:1100% apple juice ratio, or a capful of Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar(good for digestion). My favorite thing is to suck an Altoid while drinking water. I'll also occasionally drink unsweetened hibiscus or peppermint herbal tea.
  23. @@Hertsukfem31 - Make oven "fried" chicken breast. (Use almond meal instead of flour and you get a bit of Protein. I have a recipe for pizza using finely chopped up cauliflower for the crust. Not sure about the sandwiches, but I guess you could make lettuce wraps. If you don't think about what you can have instead of what you can't, you'll drive yourself nuts. Part of what this surgery does is limit what we can eat while we relearn how to eat healthier. You have to start working on those replacements or you run the risk of being one of those who loses and then regains because they slip back into old ways.
  24. You should try making low calories alternatives so you get the flavor without all the calories. View it as a challenge.
  25. @@VSGmary - Walking in the pool and even Water aerobics would be even easier on your knees than walking on concrete or the treadmill. It's super low impact and the water makes you feel weightless while you are working out those muscles. I have arthritis in both knees and my ortho recommended it.
