cindyboo1974 reacted to LipstickLady in FINALLY! I have found not one but TWO things I **HATE** about my sleeve.
First and foremost, I am cold as a mothafookah! ALL THE TIME.

I am wearing jeans when most people are wearing shorts. I always have a tank top on under my sweater and am usually wearing fleece leggings under my pants. As a fatty, I never ever wore a coat unless I was skiing and now, not only do I wear one, but I carry a spare if I am going in to my kids' schools to use as a blanket.

I keep my house at 74 and I turn on the fireplace when I am downstairs. I set my car thermostat at 88 and can hardly bear to get out of my car and go into stores. The grocery, which is always colder than any other place including Antarctica, has me scurrying through as quickly as possible and shaking uncontrollably by the time I am out of there.
I sleep in wool socks, fleece leggings, a tank and a long sleeve tshirt. I wrap myself in a wool blanket and then get under the sheet, fleece blanket, down comforter and regular comforter. (Husband is pretty sure he's not getting any action until summer. He's probably right.)

I am cold cold cold cold cold and it's 45 degrees outside. I am probably not going to survive when it hits the teens.

Second is something I just figured out last night. I can no longer have a glass of milk with my brownie/muffin/cake. Yeah, yeah, I know. I am not supposed to be eating those things, but I had the sleeve so I could live a relatively normal life post op. I have a slight stricture so I am forced to follow the no drinking for an hour after eating rule or I will vomit. I don't like it, but I've leaned to live with it after 18 months.
Last night I ate half of the best chocolate chip muffin I've ever had. I wanted a glass of milk SO bad, I couldn't resist. I poured about two inches and it was so delicious, I chugged it. The milk and the muffin revisited. Quickly. I barely made it to the bathroom. Ugh.

SO YES. I found two things I hate about my sleeve. That said, there are so many HUGE things I love about it, I don't regret it for a minute. I can bundle up, I can wait on the milk. I can't imagine ever going back to where I was. I am thrilled about my decision despite these two stupid little things and I am so happy I had surgery. SO HAPPY.

cindyboo1974 got a reaction from brown eyed gal in 1/2 Cup limit?
    Brown eyed gal,
I'm 23 days out and I still have problems getting in a 1/4 cup at a meal. According to my plan
I'm supposed to be getting in 3 meals of pureed Protein, 2 Protein shakes and another Protein
snack. I only get in 2 pureed Proteins and maybe a shake and a half in a day. From what a lot of others on here have told me you just do the best that you can getting it in. Don't push yourself to get it in. Start with your Vitamins and Water and work the rest in. So that's what I've been
doing. I've been overweight most of my life and I'm not going to ruin this tool that I've been
lucky enough to get by trying to get in all that they want me to. Don't want to stretch out the
    new stomach that you have.

cindyboo1974 reacted to tamg26k in Not eating enough
I am about 4 months post op RNY and rarely, it ever have Snacks in between my meals. Getting the Protein in daily does get better and easier. Even though I am completely on solid foods at this point I usually have Protein pudding in the morning for Breakfast. I had 3 scoops of Protein Powder to instant sugar-free pudding made with skim milk. I can get 5 or 6 breakfasts out of one box and should have about 16 grams of protein per serving.
I focus on first getting my Water in daily, then my Vitamins, then protein. I do try to get about 60-70 grams in daily from 3 meals and find that if I do this, I get a sufficient amount of calories in daily. Every program is a bit different. I live by the "I'll figure out what works best for me" plan and it has worked so far.
    Best of luck!!

cindyboo1974 got a reaction from Jorrin in When will I start feeling a little more normal
Hi Jorrin! I'm 17 days post op now and totally understand what you're going through. I'm a side sleeper to begin with so it was hard for me to not sleep on my sides. In the hospital I found I could only lay on my right side to much pain laying on the left. When I got home I found if I put a pillow in front of me and hugged it I was able to stand laying on either side. Besides that I also did it to protect stomach from my fiancé accidentally bumping it in his sleep. As others said about getting Fluid in. I'm still having that problem. Just Wednesday I was beginning to get dehydrated and forced Fluid down all day and was much better the next day. Energy will come. I find I can now get up and walk 30 minutes. I'm tired after but I'm getting in my 30 minutes of walking 5x's a week. I will usually go take a 2 hour nap during the day and find that really helps. I had staples and found that once they came out I was much more comfortable. We will all have our up and down days. At this point try to worry less about not losing the weight. We all know that if we're not careful we can gain the weight back but with what little bit we are eating while our stomach is healing you will lose weight. Can get frustrating I've not lost a single pound this week but I also know that I'm constipated and that with what little food and fluid I'm putting in that I've lost weight it's just not showing yet. Don't give up! YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

I had that today! I am trying to buy new scrubs before I go back to work. At the beginning of my year long journey before surgery I was in a 5x shirt and pants. Today I was able to go into
Walmart and buy a size 3x in shirt and pants! Was very excited!

So I got the chance at a new and healthier life coming my way. I'm pretty excited about it to be honest because its going to make me happier, healthier, and improve my over all quality of life. My consultation is on December 1st and i could not be happier to start my journey on my 24th birthday. I have read a lot of different things on the forums for the past couple of months while i've been jumping through hoops and it has helped me greatly. I have decided to go ahead and join the community now that things are on the official side. Its just nice to see that there is a place here for people to come together and talk about these things and encourage each other.

Hi! I had my surgery oct 15 and I feel the same way. I just had an appt with my dietician and she assured me that ANY liquid I'm in taking is considered part of my "water". I was stressing bc I couldn't get all the protien shakes and all the Water down in the same day.
One day I did notice I became very dehydrated and felt very light headed and had to try to down my water as quick as I could.

I think a lot of us have trouble in the beginning at getting what we think we're "supposed" to have right out of the hospital. I had my surgery 2 days after you did & faced the same thing of wondering how on earth I was going to get enough of everything?? I found that walking did wonders for me. If I felt super full I got outside and walked around the neighborhood & felt instantly better AND more able to drink/eat if I wasn't sitting around the house waiting for my pouch to empty. Maybe this would be worth a try?

I agree with what everyone here has said. My nutritionist told me that the way I viewed my eating priorities compared to a regular diet would need to change. My first priority every day was to get up to 64 oz. or more of Water or other liquid like the Protein shakes. The next priority was the Vitamins and supplements to make sure you get your nutrition. The next priority was getting 60 to 80 grams of Protein a day. In the end once I got all of this I could add fruits and vegetables.
Aside from the Vitamins and Water, I got nowhere near these requirements the first month or so. It just takes working up to them. You get the point that you loath food really. I know I did. Every second of every day revolved around drinking something, eating something, or planning to eat something. The diet is honestly the hardest thing to get used to post surgery and it is all about making a set routine out of it.
I also agree that when you are feel too full, get up and move. It will help work the liquid down a bit faster. Also, with your water, try mixing in a little zero calorie gatorade or Powerade at a 50/50 mix or less. This will also help you get some much needed electrolytes into your system and hopefully prevent some of the lightheaded and dizzy feelings.
Best of luck and if there is anything else I can do for you, please contact me at one of the links below. I want to see you succeed. This is only the start of an absolutely amazing journey!

I had my surgery on 10/21/14. It took me many years to come to terms with the fact that I needed a little something more in the way of help to get the weight off. Now that I am on the other side of surgery I'm realizing this is harder than I could of ever imagined. I was 8 days out and was already tired of the Protein shake! Now I'm on the pureed diet but am still required to drink 2 Protein Shakes a day. According to the plan I should be eating 3 protein meals, 2 protein shakes and a protein snack. Meals are 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup and if room is left I can add vegetables or fruit which I have absolutely no room for. On top of all this I'm supposed to be drinking 6-8 cups of Water as well. I can only get in 2 protein meals, 2 shakes and maybe 2-2 1/2 cups of water. Now I find that I'm beginning to get dehydrated so today I've been forcing myself to drink more than I have been and I'm just very uncomfortable because my stomach is so full. Did anybody else have this issue? I'm on this meal plan until the day before Thanksgiving when I go back to see the nutritionist at the bariatric center. It's a whole new world mentally for me. I knew it would be hard and I keep on telling myself at the end of the meal plans that I will be back to eating the way I was when I began this journey. I had lost 50 lbs. before surgery just following the meal plan they gave me and I know I can handle that part it's just this time before I get back to that where I'm having trouble.

Hello everyone. I had my surgery on 10/21/14. Looking for support online. Easier for me to get it this way than at the support group the center has where I had my surgery. On here I can get on anytime where the meetings are once a month and a ways for me to have to travel to attend.

Love it. I knew it was going to be a bit of a fight. Easier for some of us and harder for others. It's going to take all our might. To follow the plan, deal with complications and everything else. But everything in life worth having is worthy of our utmost effort.

cindyboo1974 reacted to gowalking in What do you see when you look in the mirror ?
I just read a post about how long it takes to see what others see and I thought this was a good topic to bring up on the forum.
Most of the time, we ask this question in terms of seeing the newer, smaller versions of ourselves but this is really about what we see or don't see whether we're bigger or smaller.
For me..I never really saw how large I was when I looked in the mirror. Then I would be shocked and mortified when I'd see a picture of myself because there was no doubt I was a very fat woman. What is it about folks like us who cannot see what is obvious? I don't know that answer, but it's an interesting question.
So...what happens when we lose the weight? For me, and many others, I had a terrible moment a few weeks after hip replacement surgery, and about ten months out of band surgery. I was about 170 lbs. at that time and down about 90 lbs. from my heaviest. My hair was thin and looked terrible...my face was saggy and I saw an old woman staring back at me when I looked in the mirror.
It was so bad that I found myself in therapy shortly thereafter. I needed to get help to recognize myself. Thank goodness I was seeing a professional because once I went back to work after being on disability for two months, no one recognized me in the office...because I looked so much thinner and was not on the cane much anymore. If not for my therapist, I might have gone crackers during this time.
So while she has helped me, I am even nearly a year later, still struggling with what I see versus what everyone else sees. I am surely getting used to the way I look now and my head tells me I am thin...pictures bear this out, and I do find that I can recognize myself when I look at my reflection.
What I still struggle with is that I feel like I'm still a fat girl who has managed to figure out a way to fake it. Because I look thin, people think I've always been this way and have no idea what it's like to be thinking about staying in control all the time when it comes to food.< /p>
Just yesterday, I was in an all day training going out of my mind. I found myself nibbling much of the day. A little bit here, a little bit there. I even had two Cookies after lunch and I never do that. What I was thinking though was that if I was still fat, I'd be embarrased to go for those cookies knowing that everyone would be wondering why I was eating them considering how big I was. But because I'm not big anymore, no one paid attention. The problem was....those cookies were as deadly for me yesterday as they would have been 145 lbs. ago.
I have my therapist tonight and I'm going to talk about this. I want to do everything I can to not put weight back on and that includes high calorie crap that gets past the band with ease. I may have lost all this weight, but I am still very much a work in progress and still need this site for the help and support you all give me.
Sorry for the length of this post...but would welcome your thoughts and comments.
