When will I start feeling a little more normal

Recommended Posts

As of now I'm 10days post op and absolutely miserable...can't eat much still, drink..even sleep..It hurts terribly when I try to sleep on my side...now that I'm losing weight the lower abdomen weight feels heavier and almost like it's sitting on my upper legs making it hard to walk around...I still have my stitches and have my follow up on the 17 which is still in about 9 days...thanks for your comments, advice, and/or opinions in advance....

Things will improve with time. I reached my happy state, when everything was working well at around the 6 month mark.

I thought I would feel great immediately after surgery... I was wrong, I am 5 weeks post op and I'm still tired. It's still hard for me to get my fluids in. I'm starting to get energy back this week. Hang in there, it will get better.

Hi Jorrin,

Please be patient with yourself and make absolutely sure you force down as much liquid Protein as you can. It is the key to healing. I am 17 post op and doing pretty good. I only take Tylenol at night as it makes me sleepy, weird huh. I am slowly being able to lie on my sides, right is easier than left and OMG I actually ended up on my stomach last night. Not for long but it wasn't too bad.

Move as much as you can too. That helps. Best wishes!

Thanks for your encouragement I'm definitely more up and about today even if it's just around my home...I'm getting my Protein in today and maybe tonight I will try to sleep on my side again...I found that if I put a pillow under my side it doesn't hurt as much...my biggest fear at this point is failing to lose weight even without eating...I don't want to disappoint everyone supporting me and myself....oh well I will just continue to do the best I can...best of luck to you also.

Thanks... one other thing avoid the scale as much as possible for awhile. The surgery is only a tool to lose weight. You are healing and your body HAS to have time. (I am not thrilled with that either) Everyone loses weight pretty much the same way we all gain it. Very differently. Have a strong talk with that fear and tell it to take a hike. It is not welcome as you are in charge. :-)

Hi Jorrin! I'm 17 days post op now and totally understand what you're going through. I'm a side sleeper to begin with so it was hard for me to not sleep on my sides. In the hospital I found I could only lay on my right side to much pain laying on the left. When I got home I found if I put a pillow in front of me and hugged it I was able to stand laying on either side. Besides that I also did it to protect stomach from my fiancé accidentally bumping it in his sleep. As others said about getting Fluid in. I'm still having that problem. Just Wednesday I was beginning to get dehydrated and forced Fluid down all day and was much better the next day. Energy will come. I find I can now get up and walk 30 minutes. I'm tired after but I'm getting in my 30 minutes of walking 5x's a week. I will usually go take a 2 hour nap during the day and find that really helps. I had staples and found that once they came out I was much more comfortable. We will all have our up and down days. At this point try to worry less about not losing the weight. We all know that if we're not careful we can gain the weight back but with what little bit we are eating while our stomach is healing you will lose weight. Can get frustrating I've not lost a single pound this week but I also know that I'm constipated and that with what little food and fluid I'm putting in that I've lost weight it's just not showing yet. Don't give up! YOU CAN DO THIS!!! :)

I'm 5 days post op and finally had a bowel movement. Maybe tmi. It felt great. Now I've been in the toilet three times since then. Feeling like this was a bad move

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
