I am a year post-op...a year ago I was cold all the time. I wish I could say a year later things have changed - not so much. I am writing this with wool socks, Under Armour Storm (fleece lined) pants, sweatshirt and blanket.
But I will say...I'll take the cold over the 75 pounds I've lost!

My surgery was on Monday November 24 at exactly 8 am. In toronto ontario. I got my sleeve rough smart shape by dr.neil orzech at a private hospital in don mills, toronto.
My surgeon has zero percent track record for vsg leaks or any serious complications, that was a big thing for me.
I woke up at 4:30 am to shower and get my shit together, I was so nervous but I just kept pushing on.
My fiancé and I left at 530 and was at the hospital at 630 am. I had to wait an additional 30 min to be registers because the registration office didn't open till 7, the nerves were horrible!!!
Finally at 7 I was checked in and sent upstairs to the nurses unit where cross the hall was the operating room. In hue he nurses unit i was weighed in, double checked paper work and was sked some questions.
The nurse, Svetlna, showed me my private room where I waited for my surgeon to come in and have a talk with me before surgery. He was very caring no sincere and my nerves melted away. I hen changed into my gown, got my blue booties on my feet nd put on my he surgical hair ever and walked into my operating room.
The operating theatre was very fancy looking. Nothing but the best of the best it seemed, every single person there, part of hone medical team, introduced them selves. I got on the operating table and my anesthesiologist told me that he will take good care of me. I was extra worried because I have atrial fibrillation and general anesthetic can cause an arrythmic episode.
My surgeon then came in NAND as he was talking to me my iv was started. He called for a "team meeting"around me and discussed my case with everyone. They were all so compassionate and caring. I was ready.....
The nurse then put an oxygen mask over me, and the nethesiologist told me gat im going to get sleepy now...and that's all i remember....
Upon waking up, I felt something hard being taken out of yay chest throu. My mouth. It was my breathing tube. I kept going in and out from that point. Once I was awake, still in the operating room, I started to vomit. But because I was so drugged up i was laying down, the nurses had to literally lift me up so I wouldn't choke on my vomit. I managed to open one eye at this point' and I looked at the mess i front of me and was shocked to see nothing but blood coming out....i quickly passed out after that.
I remember being moved to my recovery bed, and vomiting after that. I had to keep making myself sit up otherwise I would have chocked, and a hole doing so, I ripped my iv out. Blood was leaking everywhere along with saline. They gave me another iv and I had asked them to stop all pain medications. I would deal with the pain myself. The pain of vomiting just after having your stomach sliced and diced was painful enough. Anything I could do to reduce the vomiting, I would do....so they agreed.
Surgery went very well, it was an hour and a half. The reson it was so long isn't because I had a hiatal hernia, in fact i didn't have one at all. It's because my spleen was SO CLOSE to my stomach the hat the surgeon had to take extra care and ease not to damage it. My liver was nice and reduced and my heart didn't even flutter once during surgery.
The first 24 hours post op was painful and terrible. The vomiting up blood' dry heaves, lurching and gas pain was unbearable. I was in deep regrets. But I quickly sucked it up and told myself to toughen up. This too shall pas....
And it did. By the next day I was better. Hadn't thrown up since 6am and I even started sipping on Water. The acid reflux was bad, so they gave me some zantac thru the iv every 6 hours and that heed. As as able to go peek pass gas and walk around. Walking felt SO GOOD. It took the pressure off! Every single passing hour something got better and improved. I am now 5 days post op and am st rating to see a light at the end of the tunnel. That's my story. And I would do to to all over again if i had at out in a heart beat. I am 22 lbs down. And just taking it day by day.

Well everyone, I have been lurking these boards and gaining information and seeing so many success stories for TWO whole years, and my day has finally arrived!
I will be checking into the hospital at 9:45 am and having sleeve surgery at 11:45am. It is surreal and exciting and emotional all in one.
I'm in Victoria (2 hrs by plane and 7 hrs by car) away from home and alone. Unfortunately my family couldn't be here with me :-(
My hubby and I have 2 small children and I didn't want to uproot them and leave them with just anyone for this length of time (7 days).
My parents are so supportive and wanted to take my kids, but they are so busy with getting custody less than a week ago of my 1 year old nephew that I thought it would be waayyy too much for them! They really wanted to take my kids, but I just felt bad. They are dealing with enough already and I don't want to add to their stress.
So we decided that my man should stay home and be there for the kids. Honestly I thought it would be harder, but it's been good so far. I am BORED out of my mind though without the fam to keep me company. Other than that I'm doing better than I thought.
I have been waiting for so so long for this and I hope everything goes well tomorrow! I'm excited to start this chapter of my life and really start living this life!
I can't wait for this body to be able to experience new things!!!
    Sheena :-)

Just an update! Since my last update I have been hospitalized 2 more times and had approx 5 more corrective procedures. I had a stent that ran from my lower esophagus to my stomach for 3 weeks until it caused an occlusion and had to be removed a week early, I have also had 2 dilations to open up the sleeve. I am 2 and a half months post op and still off work sitting at home on tube feedings 20 hours per day. The stent shrunk my pouch that had formed and straightened out my stomach, it just caused a lot of inflammation. So I am just now being able to tolerate Clear Liquids in very small amounts. This has been a challenging journey for me and my whole family, but I am hoping and praying that I am finally on the road to recovery.

Durring my egd my doctor informed me of hiatal hernia an said he could repair for me the same time he did my sleeve. I had never had reflux or heart burn issues before but agreed that if there was a problem go ahead an fix. Boy was I wrong...
I was sleeved 5/28 an had the hiatal repair done as well an for some one that has NEVER had any heartburn issues or acid reflux, I am very disappointed that I no have on a daily! My doctor told me to take Pepcid complete... It does wrk to, but no for long. I luv my sleeve an have had no complications so far, but I hate the reflux issues:(

This is going to be an epic day Shari71! My nerves aren't getting to me yet but as time gets closer the nerves will most likely pick up. Butterlies are pretty common, see if your Dr can give you something for anxiety on surgery day. I'm not sure how I'm going to tackle Thanksgiving yet, turkey, gravy are probably okay and I'm going to try to stay away from the starches, bread, and stuffing. Smart choices need to be amsde tomorrow. Good luck Shari71.

Very, Very, excited here after a long-haul getting the pre approval from the pesky insurance companies. The checklist of sleep studies, CPAPs, meeting with dieticians, and phycologist is finally complete and I can focus on on my upcoming surgery on Dec 10th. I haven't been put on a liquid diet at all, just a low calorie diet. I think that will change on my Dec 1st appointment. Good luck to all the December sleevers.
