  1. She definitely needs to eat more not getting enough protein is going to have issues after a while when I wasn't getting enough protein in the back of my legs went numb and I had some pretty major vitamin deficiencies she needs to put calories and protein right away and speak to her doctor about these issues. A lack of B vitamins can make one very very tired
  2. I have dumping when I eat anything too sweet. Sometimes I think I also get it if I overeat. It's a good thing. Keeps me honest!!
  3. This was a very interesting article I've never thought of it that way but I could see how some forms of anorexia could be more of a habit thing.
  4. You look amazing! So happy for you and your family!
  5. Glad to see you doing well!!
  6. Am I anorexic. No I am not. Am I on the way there? I don't think so but it's something I do think about. First off I am in therapy with a counselor who is both a dietician and a specialist in eating disorders. I've been seeing her weekly since before I had surgery, over a year now. This is because I have a long history of an eating disorder. I've struggled with binge eating most of my adult life and also had a stint with bulimia. I've been through intensive inpatient therapy for it and am very aware of my issue and tendencies. I knew going into wls it could become a problem for me, hence therapy. To be diagnosed as anorexic one has to be 15% below a healthy BMI. I'm not even close. I'm still in a healthy BMI for my height. I'm aware of how thin I am and that there is a point at which I will become too thin. I personally feel like a few more pounds could come off but I don't intend to drop to an underweight BMI. I do know that I am very thin whereas anorexic people usually don't recognize their thinness. I wouldn't say I'm obsessed with food and calories to a harmful degree. I am aware of them just like any wls patient and want to make sure I continue to follow a healthy eating plan. I don't have food rituals and I don't use laxatives or make myself throw up on purpose. I am eating around 1200-1700 calories a day. That is not what anorexics do! I am trying to eat to maintain my weight within a few pounds. I'd like to be between 115-120 for my weight which puts me a low normal BMI. So. Am I anorexic? No I don't think so. Am I aware that this possibility exists if I get to 115 and still don't find it acceptable? Yes I am. One thing that concerns me is how losing weight relieves my stress and makes me feel "safe." Like @@Babbs said, eating disorders are about control and stress management. Yup!!! That's how it does feel for me at least in part. That's an indicator that I may have trouble stopping. I don't think I'll aggressively continue to lose weight but over time it could sneak up on me because I'll be tempted to get the validation of weight loss continually past healthy weight. It is something that makes me feel so good and my rational mind struggles with the urge to see that number getting smaller because yes, it relieves fear and stress. There is a disconnect happening between me recognizing the size I currently am and the number on the scale. The issue lies in the fear of regaining and the activity that relieves that fear being weight loss. Everyone who posted has valid points and as you can see I'm not in denial. I realize this is a possibility for myself. That's why I keep posting about it. I'm looking for support from those who have achieved maintenance and dealt on some level with the fears I have. When I first got on this forum I was surprised how few people seemed to have past diagnosed eating disorders. I would have thought it more common. Especially because bulimia can often result in binge eating and huge weight gains over time. I do feel rather alone with my issues and a little embarrassed. I'm just trying to get support. It will be as difficult for me to end up looking like a skeleton as it was for me to be obese.
  7. ... This is my face. I'm not ready to stop losing!!! I feel like a kid who is getting her favorite toy taken away. I LOVE losing. It makes me feel good. It makes me feel safe and productive. If I'm going down, I'm not going up right? Right??? Sigh. My doctor told me today I'm the Ally Mcbeal of wls patients. That my weight is already 15 below ideal. That his tanita scale wants me to gain 10 pounds. That I have virtually no fat left at 19% body fat and I'm all muscle. He doesn't want me to lose any more weight. Not even a pound. Poooooooooo Felt like I was bargaining. "Cmoooooon just 3 more little pounds! Please, cmooooon!" Hahaha. I don't know if I should be thrilled to have the success I do or be worried about myself. Honestly it's a lot harder than I thought to give up active loss. It's like a security blanket. My doctor said I'm currently a very healthy, verrrrrry slender woman. If I stay this weight for the rest of my life, perfect. If I lose anymore I'm going to look sunken, but right now I look healthy and just very thin. He's right I know. It's time to stop. It's hard to figure out calories now. He told me my bmr is 1335 calories. I think if I eat that much I'll continue to lose. He said I would gain if I ate more and I'm just shaking my head because I'm eating 1700 and still losing. I'm nervous all of a sudden ill gain. Wish I knew the magic number to eat. Just trying to take it one day at a time.
  8. Today my surgeon told me that increasing protein and supplementing with vitamins will not help hair loss. That's its the body in shock from surgery and from weight loos and one just has to ride it out!! (((
  9. Less than 20 grams a day. I'm not encouraging this!! Just lettin you know I didn't die or go bald.
  10. I didn't get my protein in for about 8 months. Some hair fell out and I lost a lot of muscle, but that was about it. Now I'm getting better and being able to eat more of it. It does sometimes take time. Try your best, get in as much as you can, but don't freak out or regret surgery. You will get there!!
  11. Another user posted a thread about her mother and their awful relationship due to fat shaming. It made me think a thread on this subject could be therapeutic to some of us. First off I want to say, I LOVE my mom. She is a wonderful person and I forgive her. She has her own body image issues and I forgive her. My mother has tortured me about my weight almost my whole life. It started when I was 11 and she put me on a diet for being a little tiny bit chubby and taking second helpings. This was the first time I thought of myself as fat and I became very insecure. Whenever I would see my mother she would ALWAYS have a comment about my weight, first thing out of her mouth. I was too fat, or too skinny. Never perfect. Always one or the other. It hurt my feelings and made me miserable. It really messed with my self esteem. I was never overweight, always about 150 pounds, until I got pregnant. I ballooned to 250 pounds. Pregnancy was the first time in my life I wasn't on a diet!! I went nuts. My mother just couldn't handle it. Constantly telling me how concerned she was about my weight, how she didn't understand how I could let myself go. She would watch what I ate and make comments about that. She would discuss my weight with family members and my spouse as if to stage and intervention. It was very hurtful. But she did support me having surgery and she was there for me though my complications. Thank you mom. She is amazing and I know she loves me. Now the tide has turned and she is freaking out about how thin I've gotten. Calling me anorexic and telling me she can't stand to look at me. It's hurtful in a similar way. But I admit it does give me some pleasure that I'm no longer being told how fat I am. I just wish I could hear, you look beautiful! Just once.
  12. This is awful!! Is your mother supportive of you having the surgery? I have to admit, my mother also tortured me about my weight. She would constantly make comments. In fact, I think this subject deserves it own thread!!
  13. Strictures are really weird. I still have things get stuck although it's gotten so much better. It's unpredictable that's for sure. For about six months all I could eat was cheese, potato chips, and liquids!! Ugh. The idea of gaining weight back keeps me up at night!!
  14. You look phenomenal!!! Can I ask.... With your body looking as insanely good as it does... With as much weight as you've lost does your chest have a lot of extra skin? I'm about three inches shorter than you and am nearing into range of my goal but the closer I get to goal I feel like I wear a bra to hold the skin now and not the girls... Hey there. I don't have any extra skin on my chest area. My boobs became small and nicely shaped. I have some loose skin on my belly area and need a tummy tuck. That's about it. I've been lucky.
  15. I'm at goal Pictures are from day of surgery and today. It's hard to believe this is the same woman!! The face and butt transformation gets me the most!! 5'6, 35 years old. Hw:250 cw: 121
  16. These photos are from the day I entered the hospital for surgery, dec 4th 2014, and today!! I'm 5'6. I started at about 250 pre-op and am now 121 lbs. Pretty sure I've reached goal although I feel like I may go to 115 for some bounce range. Losing very slow now. It's quite a ride!!
  17. I really like match.com and okay Cupid!!
  18. My plantar fasciitis has also gone away since I lost the weight! I used to have TERRIBLE foot pain. So bad I could barely walk at times. Each morning I would limp in pain when I stood up. I believe it was inflammation related to the high sugar diet I was eating and the stress of the weight on my small frame.
  19. This is a huge NSV for me. I've always had big feet for a girl. Kind of embarrassed about it especially because I'm only 5'6 ish. My brother used to make fun of me and call me Saskwatch!! So mean ???????????? Anyway, at a size 9.5 my feet were already above average. When I gained weight, they grew to a size 10.5!!! ????????????????. Almost 11!! Oh. My. God. The horror!! Anyway. I've lost 130 pounds. And I now wear a size 9!!!!! Yes!!!! Thank you vsg for saving my feet. And no foot pain either!! What did your feet do?
  20. Awwwww thanks!!! I think it makes me sound a little sweeter than I am but oh well!!! I like your too! Your a good lookin' man!!!
  21. http://www.match.com/Profile/Display/About/?lid=450&uid=jnhi51MKBl8%20SaPbOZHOWQ== Let's see if this works! Here is my profile. )
  22. I'm always asking people to take pictures of me, just trying to get my head around how I look! Yesterday for the first time I looked in the mirror at the gym and actually thought I looked too thin. It was a bit shocking.
  23. Thank god I had this surgery and I would do it again without question!!
  24. I'm sorry this ended for you. It's hard no matter what. Seems like you got out before compatibility issues became a major problem though. Chin up!
