April's Chat
Hi Patti - welcome to the Jersey Chat! We're actually in the May Chat now, so you may want to post a new reply over there. The surgery recovery isn't too bad. Some people bounce back right away and are shopping within a few days and some people need 2 or 3 weeks before feeling 100%. Good luck to you and your daughter.

Grays has me eating!!!
     Sob! My TIVO didn't record Grey's Anatomy because we already had two things scheduled for Monday night. Hopefully my DH will be able to download it when he gets home from a business trip. I made my sister spill all the dirt - I never was good at delayed gratification.

Why can't I lose!!!!!!
You've been banded for 3 months and have lost over 30 lbs. I was told to expect 1 to 2 lbs a week, but 1/2 lb a week isn't uncommon for many bandsters. You're doing a great job! If your weight loss is steady, I would hold off on the fill. Being too tight can be a nightmare (trust me - I know). Personally, I eat a small portion of whatever the family is eating because that's usually healthier than a Lean Cuisine. I will have them occasionally for lunch though.

Filing Bankruptcy...Need Some Support
Emily, (((HUGS))). You're not a failure - you're exdh is. I'd hate to see you file bankruptcy for $21K. Have you explored all of your options? You may want to hit Oprah.com. She is doing a whole series on getting out of debt called The Debt Diet. One of the things that stick out in my mind is this: Call all of your credit card companies and inform them that you are about to file bankruptcy. They may be willing to do all sorts of things to help you (lower your APR, remove late fees, etc) if it means that you will still be paying them monthly. There's a bunch of other helpful advice on there too. Also, look into Suze Orman's website. She gives great advice. Try this link: http://www.suzeorman.com/igsbase/igstemplate.cfm?SRC=MD012&SRCN=aoedetails&GnavID=20&SnavID=100&TnavID=&AreasofExpertiseID=166 Best of luck to you!

When did you notice hair loss?
My hair didn't start falling out until I was almost 5 months out from banding. Mine was falling out for about 6 weeks. Make sure that your multivitamin has Biotin in it - I've read that it can help.

Thinking about this for myself and my daughter
Your first step would be to find a weight loss surgeon in your area and attend an orientation. Go to www.lapband.com to do a search and read up on the band. There is a list on the website of the medical conditions that disqualify people from being banded. The pre-op requirements vary widely from doctor to doctor. Just to give you an idea, my doctors required the following: -BMI > 35 or at least 100 lbs overweight plus 2 comorbidities (health problems related to weight). -Psychiatric evaluation -A meeting with a nutritionist -A meeting with an exercise physiologist -A liquid diet for 1 week prior to surgery and 4 weeks after My surgery was covered by insurance, but I have seen self-pay prices quoted at anywhere from $9K to $18K. There are also fees associated with the pre-op testing and post-op fills/adjustments. Whether or not your insurance will cover it is based entirely on your specific policy. Contact your company to find out their criteria. Good luck to you and your daughter!

May's Chat
Hi Everyone! Phew! What a day. We've had a cold drizzle here for about 5 days now with no end in sight. My Mother's Day gift is always my hanging baskets for my front porch (because they cost a fortune, and DH can never think of anything to get me anyways). Anyways we went to the big nursery and I bought my baskets and a bunch of flowers. I came home, put on a hat and planted flowers in the rain for 2 hours. It was kinda nice - at least the mosquitoes weren't getting me. Right now I have a coffee cake in the oven for brunch with the MIL tomorrow. I caught my DD dumping cinnamon in the batter when I wasn't looking. I almost put it in the oven without the eggs in the batter too. So we may have to taste test it tonight to make sure I didn't put in baking soda instead of flour. Sherry & Irene & Cindy - congratulations on the recent scale victories! Betty - Glad you enjoyed your relaxing day. You certainly deserve it! You can drink beer?! I'm jealous. I tried a tiny sip of semi-flat pop once and let out a belch that would have made Homer Simpson proud. Patty, congrats on winning the ebay auction! Keep your chin up about the surgery. You've made so much progress these past few months - just keep plugging away and stay on top of your PCP. Enjoy your weekend of me time. :nanahump: Eilene, glad you enjoyed the concert! Hope your back feels better. Pat, where are you? Hope everything is okay. (((HUGS))) Happy Mothers Day everyone! :Banane41:

Have major regrets? I do
I just wanted to second (and third) the opinion that you shouldn't rush your fills. Some people need very little fill to get restriction. It's my opinion that my band slipped because I was too tight. I only had 1cc in a 4cc band, which isn't a lot but it was too much for me. The people on here who sneak up to proper restriction seem to have fewer complications and better long term results. We all want the weight to be off yesterday, but try to take it a day at a time and focus on how much better you'll be feeling a year from now.

WLS Specific Products?
I had my doctor write me a prescription for Phenerghen suppositories for nausea to have on hand if I ever get sick. I've never tried Queasy pops, but I did try Preggie Pops for nausea when I was pregnant and they worked pretty well. I'm guessing it's the same company since the names are so similar.

American Idol
Ooh - interesting! A conspiracy theory. It really does seem strange that Chris was voted off. He was my favorite, and I thought he performed really well. I actually like Katherine (ducking to avoid shoes), but she was awful on both her songs this week and deserved to be gone. I try to picture Taylor being successful on a Kelly Clarkston level, and I just don't see it. He's entertaining live, but will he be able to sell records? Joe Cocker and Michael McDonald aren't exactly burning up the charts right now. With or without AI, Chris has the brightest future.

Crap Eilene, I just laughed so hard I think my band popped off! Hmm... maybe you can ask him about his severe case of neck ballsitis tomorrow night while you're cuddling. You know... after. LMAO!

Oh Patty, (((HUGS))) for you and your little boy. I think if I saw your EXDH right now I'd run him over in my car. Let us know how the visit goes.

I had a fill ....
Good luck with your fill Kellie! I hope it gets your restriction back for you. (((HUGS)))

Do you tan?
I wanna tan so bad, because I really do think it makes you look thinner. Why oh why does everything good have to be so bad for you?

May's Chat
Good morning everyone! Mary, you are such a strong person. I love how you refuse to play games with your ex and ex-sil. Something tells me your exdh will be crying in his beer when you start dating again. Dianne - I'd rather have a tooth pulled than shop for a bathing suit right now. But you have a big trip to look forward to, so it's worth the pain. :Banane13: To answer your question, they use fluoro if they have to, but only if they can't access the port in the office. They were talking about taking me down to x-ray when they finally got it. Kat, congrats on meeting your first weight loss goal!! Eilene, have fun at the concert tomorrow! Are you going to fling your bra and panties at the stage? :biggrin1: What's everyone else up to today? I'm off to the laundromat again. Such a glamourous life I lead... :Banane11:

Hesitantly asking for good thoughts...

I choked on my best friends boyfriend because I'm sexy and I do what I want. LMAO! I should be on Jerry Springer.

Hi everyone! Thanks for all the birthday wishes - I had a really great day yesterday. DH let me sleep in and then we went out to lunch and took the kids to the zoo. Then we came home for cake and ice cream, but I didn't have any. And if you believe that, you'll believe anything! I finally got my fill this morning! Patty - cover your eyes, I don't want you to read the next part and cancel your surgery... It was awful! My port is slightly tipped so they had one guy smushing my stomach down while the other guy poked me not once, not twice, but 9 times!! He only put in .5 cc's because he wants to take it really slow. I agree that we should go slow, but I'd better get a little restriction or I'm gonna be crying. Eilene, that ring is so pretty! Really, how could anyone be expected to pass up such a good deal? I love Kohls. I'll catch up on personals tonight. Hope you're all having a great hump day!

Happy Birthday Anwyn--Anne

I have missed my LBT friends!!!
Welcome back - we missed you! I'm so sorry that you and your family have had such a tough time lately. Glad to hear that your mom and brother are mending well. Hmm... a "hospital food only" diet. You might just find out that you've lost weight!

Need Help Again!!!
Yeah, I've heard quite a few people say that it took 2 or 3 weeks for a fill to kick in. Call your doctor and get in for a small unfill and you'll feel better in no time. Feel better soon!
