Fill Question
Thanks to everyone who responded! I really appreciate it. I had no clue that oatmeal digested that fast. I figured since it was so thick it would take longer. What would a few examples of Hard protien be...for breakfast food that is. I know I have a lot to learn but im trying!

Fill Question
Im sure this has been asked a thousand times, but could someone please tell me how long after a fill does it take to get restriction? I had my first fill yesterday and today I had oatmeal for breakfast. I only ate 4 oz of it, because that was what I was told to do, even though I wanted more. 2 hours later...im starving again! According to the doctor he normally puts in 5-6 cc's for a first fill but since I had "good restriction" he only put in 3 cc's. Should I call him back and tell him it isnt working?

My first fill....
Had my first fill today! I have to say it was totally pain free...until the lanocaine (sp?) wore off. I am really sore but doing fine. It took him 2 sticks with that needle to get it right. I ended up with 3cc's in mine. He said that he usually puts in 5 or 6cc's the first time, but since I had really good restriction, I didnt need anymore.

Chicago luncheon?
Ok..I hate to be the difficult one here, but I work weekends. I get off at 2:00 P.M. I work in the loop (Water Tower area) so if we could arrange a late lunch in the loop somewhere that would be great. If not that is ok.

Have you motivated others?
As "fat" people we all know that if losing weight on our own was feasible we would have done it a long time ago. Thin people have no clue what it is like for us. Therefore when the asked me, before my banding, why I cant do it "naturally" I tell them the truth. I simply say "I know me...and if I could I would, but I cant". Most people just dont get it...but I really dont care if they do. As for motivating people to be banded..I have had several people come to me asking for the information. I have a friend who had the gastric bypass and had so much trouble with it, but she came to me asking for banding information for her husband because he saw what she went through and decided that it was not for him. He is so sold on the band now and is looking into it now. In total I have at least 5 people waiting for banding approval and I think it is the best decision they could make. I know it was the best decision I ever made!

What is the best post operation pain killer?
All I needed was what the doctor prescribed...tylenol liquid with codiene! I had such little pain that I walked 2 blocks to a block party 2 days after surgery!

Lapband surgery has opened my eyes!
Since I have had the surgery I have been doing a lot of reading on nutrition and healthy eating. I have learned so much and everything makes so much sense to me now. It's no wonder why America is an over weight country. In the evening I watch television and its one fast food chain after another. One snack food after another. It's amazing how we as a people are so brain washed by advertisments! For example the stupid White castle commercial about their new burger. It shows a guy sitting at his dinning room table eating this french style burger while he is watching his housekeeper clean. All of a sudden she is this hot little maid in a french maids uniform making eyes at him! What is this supposed to tell us? That if we eat this burger it will make our dull, boring lives better???? Don't even get me started on the Paris Hilton commercial! I understand that sex sells and all that garbage but hey...if you eat this stuff on a regular basis your health declines, you get fat and well....how much sex will you get??? I don't know maybe it's just me but I think its horrible how everyone complains that Americans are fat and lazy and then they put out commercials like this. Thanks for letting me vent and most of all thanks for listening!

How much longer?
I know this question has probably been answered a million times over, but if it has, I cant find the answer. I had surgery July 28th. I feel really great except this annoying feeling on my left side! Kind of a dull pain but a pain none the less. Is it normal? How long can I look forward to having this annoying, kinda pregnant on one side feeling? What exactly is it??? I would appreciate any kind of help you can offer!

Anyone know if its ok to fly?

Newbie Chicago
I absolutely LOVE Dr. Horgan! I always thought he was a mean guy until the day of surgery! He made me feel so relaxed. We talk a long time while I was being prepared for surgery and we passed jokes back and forth! After surgery he came to visit me again and told me how well the surgery went and took time to answer all my questions. I have to say I feel great and everyday is an improvment! I am telling all my friends about him! He is the best as far as I am concerned.

Its official...Im a bandster!
Today I feel great! Starting passing gas like crazy yesterday and it never felt so good. It really helped when I took a walk to a block party and started to see all my friends.I never knew that laying around in the house all day would make me so crazy! Now if that annoying bloated feeling on my left side would just go away I would be perfect!

whats your secret wish or fantasy?
My fantasy is to find all the guys that didn't give me a second look or even a first look (and I know where they are) and flirt big time with them...make them think they have a chance of getting "some" and then for no reason at all say..."no...i changed my mind!" This may sound cruel and heartless but hey....turn about is fair play! Yes! This is revenge!

Tomorrow is my big day!
Well, tomorrow I have my surgery! Im so excited and yet scared to death. Yes, I know that thats normal and everything will be fine but there is that little voice in my head that says "Are you crazy???" I am just thankful that I have this opportunity and I am detemined to make the best of it. I just couldn't imagine doing something this drastic and messing it up! Thanks for all the wonderful information you all posted on here..I learned soooo much!

Help Me get Excited Again
Well, I am having my surgery tomorrow and yes I am scared to death! But I am going to do it because I know that it is right for me. As for the scary things that you read about, I really think that just a minority of the banders suffer from those things. If you stick to the diet and chew, chew, chew...things will be fine.

Educational Classes
Being a patient of Dr.Horgan, we were all required to go to this class (seminar). It only took about 1 1/2 hours and it was only once. Very informative... I don't know what your doctor requires but no matter what...you have to do...what you have to do! Good Luck!
