  3. kiah, u r right. those of us who wish to remain anonymous really admire people like you.
  4. Ya'll are hilarious:lol:
  5. Anne, you are so the bomb! it sounds to me from this and your other posts that you are at a point in your life where you are ready to take control. you are so well traveled and opened minded that this journey will be a cake walk for you. OMG! My mother is 5 years older than you and her mind is so closed to wls that I haven't told her my intentions yet. I know that she loves me and fears the unknown but I wish that she would understand that I have to do this. My husband is very supportive! So Ms. Anne, you just do you so that you will be around for your son, and his family!
  6. Hey y'all: My name is April I turned 35 in May I live in Birmingham,AL I am married; today is my 8 year anniversary! I have a 4 1/2 year old son I am a high school ass to the principal- I mean assistant principal I remember when I was fine! I want to fall in love again with the person in the mirror I am waiting on ins. approval You all motivate and inspire me Holla! ( I so think I sound like Tyra Banks in my head when I typed that)
  7. china how many pounds have u lost since december?
  8. Travel lady, have u been banded yet? I agree a sista has to take care of herself. How does the song go.. you just do u imma do me! so stick with your decision! Msnika... I am in education as well (administration) so i know as i lose weight it will be all eyes on me. I agree with the earlier post about thinking long and hard before telling. A friend of mine has the bypass and has handled it with so much class. I have told a couple of people my plans and now i am having second thoughts should i just not mention it anymore and attribute weight loss to nutrisystem:confused2: or something? Where I'm from there have been a lot of obese educators losing a lot of weight lately. They would say oh i went to la weight loss or weight watchers. it took me a minute to realize that our ins. covered gastric bypass surgery! Our ins just started covering the lap band last year.
  9. It sounds like u made some really good choices msnika. I am still awaiting ins.approval and my dr. Told me not to lose any weight yet ( bmi 40 no comorbidities) so I am prone to make a bad choice or two!
  10. Hi moon, Sorry I am not qualified to be the mentor that you are seeking because I am waiting for approval as well. I just wanted to say hello to a fellow Alabamian. Stay encouraged, Who is your Ins. co. ? I have bc bs.
  11. To tell or not to tell? That is the question. Hey girlies how do you tell your family or friends that you are having or had wls? I haven't told many people for cultural and regional reasons. #1 In the south it's ok to trust a big butt and a smile #2 Most of the people I know consider themselves "thick" but are actually medically obese Maybe it has nothing to do with culture or region. Maybe it's just a human thing. I kinda struggle with this. Look at my avatar, it's a cartoon, Will I ever be brave enough to replace it with my own photo or will I Keep it in the closet!? Holla!
  12. ...I'm washing grill smoke out of my hair. I really did not do too bad, I had some steak and about a tablespoon of a couple of side items. It was just too hot to eat much else:cursing: I am so proud of everyone who ate healthy (Boca Burger you win the crown)
  13.:tt2::tt2::tt1::tt2::thumbup::tt2::thumbup: I made you look! :smile2::tt2::crying::tt2::tt2: Hi Girlies! What are you eating on the Fourth of July? How has being banded impacted your holiday cookout? I'm from the dirty south so you know it's always about food and more food. But to tell the truth-I really don't feel like washing the smell of grill smoke out of my hair! I haven't been banded yet but i still would rather eat sushi and sip plum wine. It's hot in Alabama and I have spent too many meals sweating and eating:cursing: lmao Holla! PS Thanks skinnyoneday
  14. HI 2B I just sent you an invite or you can go to the lap band home page scroll down the left menu to social groups click on there and look for Girlfriends
  15. Please don't view this group as segregation ( I actually thought about how that might be perceived). It is actually more special interest. I agree, everyone on this site has the same struggle. But, this site also has forums for people that have other things in common besides their band. There are groups for diabetics, people over 50, people banded in December, you name it. So please, this endeavor has good intentions. I also still post to the other forums as well-for example the Alabama group. My soul needed this! So I had to follow my heart.
  16. Thanks girl! Let's keep it going.
  17. I just sent an invite to everyone who posted prior to this one. Once you all join I will create a forum:thumbup: The Girlfriends forum can then be accessed from the main lapbandtalk page on the left menu side under social groups.
  18. OK Girls, Loose Skin? Haven't you heard? My momma always said, "black don't crack!" lol Seriously, at my seminar someone asked the Dr. about loose skin and he said that black women do a lot better. He said our skin seems to be more resilient and will generally mold to our new bodies very well.--Holla I am so pleased at the response to this thread! I got this idea after lurking and posting on this site for months. I really like the technical information that you can find here. Obesity Help has an African American Forum but I never post-just lurk. I can't really get into some of the drama that goes on there but I love the bond that they seem to have. So, I decided to create a social group here that could be a combination of technical info. and bonding. I'll post how to join in a new reply
  19. Hi ladies , I created a social group for women of color (African, African American, Latina, etc) to discuss the physical, emotional, and cultural impact of weight loss surgery. Let's talk about everything that we really want to ask -like how is wls viewed in the black community? or Is it really true what they say about black women and loose skin? Please join so that we can create a forum Holla back!
  20. Black Cherry- You didn't use dr. recorded weight history. Your insurance co. accepted photos as well? How far back did you have to go? Did they mail the information? How did you get an approval so quickly if they mailed the pics with the info?
  21. OMG! Congrats to both of u. Emily, it's hard to believe that u started this thread a few days ago stressed out! That was quick for both of u. My stuff had to be mailed in because I am using photos to document weight. So no I need you all to pray for me, seriously because now i am in the hands of the dreaded ins. co.
  22. I talked to Naomi this morning and she said that I will have to do the nutrition class once I am approved. She made me feel better about the approval process. So now I am just waiting...
  23. nutritional class? no one in the surgeons office mentioned that. I feel like i am building the wings as i fly throughout this whole process....
