I have not found out about the pre op diet yet but I'm sure I will get more info during my pre op appt Wednesday. Do you know who your surgeon will be at west LA kaiser? I'd really like to know if they select the surgeon or if you have a choice? I'd like to do some background checks to make sure they're well versed in the sleeve surgery. Is that what your having? Thank you for all your info and I wish you the best of luck ! Pls post whatever if any pre op diet they make you do. I'm having my option classes at woodland hills Kaiser sept 19th. So guesstimating you took 5 months. Maybe by February of next year I'll have my surgery.!! Best wishes- Debbie

Is the sleeve safe long term?

Please check out this post on a scientific study of 4888 patients and leak complication rate: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/314316-sleeve-leak-risk-study-on-4888-patients/ Surg Endosc. 2012 Jun;26(6):1509-15. doi: 10.1007/s00464-011-2085-3. Epub 2011 Dec 17. I have bought the big book on the sleeve and have been absorbing all the information I possibly can. I am still in the "should I do it" mode. I've heard people who have no regrets and ppl with the exact opposites having a ton of regrets. I want to go into it knowing exactly what I'm in for.. All I know is today I'm miserable at 231 lbs and 5'4. And I'm signed up for the options 3 month class.Even if I don't go through with the surgery I believe this class would be good for me.. Still indecisive, but getting informed!!! :-)

How exactly does the band work?

Hi good morning, I'm a newbie Here. Starting option class in September. I'm sill having a hard time on deciding band or sleeve. It seems the band is less invasive while the sleeve removes 85% of your stomach. But I read the band has a higher rate of long term complications.? Pls anyone there who did decide on the band and not the sleeve for whatever reason.? I'd really like your input to help me make a decision.! Thx-Debbie

Thanks for your input.. Not gonna let fear control me..!!!! The more I think about it and read up and learn everything there is about the sleeve I want it. I don't want to limit myself socially anymore.. I'm super excited about the future and what it holds for me.. 2 ms is the class and possibly early next year the surgery!! Yay ~ Debbie

Is the sleeve safe long term?

Thx for responding Linda Actually I don't even think I could maintain it let alone even lose the 87 to get to goal. I guess I'm just nervous and scared about the surgery, pain, and post recovery. I was considering the lap band to but too many complications long term.. I ordered the "big" book and I will study it like my bible.. And then at least I can make an informed decision. But glad to hear that you don't regret it and would've done it over again.. Good to know ~ Debbie

Is the sleeve safe long term?

Hi everyone! I'm new here. I really would like to have the sleeve done. I'm 5''4" and weigh 232 lbs. BMI 40 with no comorbidities should I have the surgery? I'm torn because I think I could hunker down with a low fat diet and exercise and get to 200. But then Id still have 55 lbs to lose. I'm starting the options class in sept at kaiser woodland hills, Ca. I will see how it goes. The surgery is so drastic and just wondered if anyone else felt this way. Like if I got my head in the game I could really lose the 87 pounds without the sleeve, but then again I've tried so many diets and lost 20 or more and gained it back. I get so discouraged having so much to lose. With this tool it would force me to eat less and give me more motivation seeing the pounds come off quicker.. I just don't want to regret it. Anyone pls share, would you do it all over again or not? Should I go for it? Thx for your time reading this..your responses would be helpful in deciding since I'm on the fence.. Want2besleeved
