I get nauseous when I need to eat. The good thing is I still fill up pretty fast. Keeping Protein Bars or even a RTD Protein Drink in my bag addresses that issue pretty quickly.

P.S. You will be EXHAUSTED the first couple of weeks after surgery but it's nothing like you feel now. And after you make it through the first couple of weeks you'll be golden!

Jane - your mom sounds like she was a real cool lady. Good on her!!
I'm not sure if this helps anyone reading this or not, but before I went through law school I thought doctors knew everything, that they were some special breed of human that knew more than the rest of us about everything, that they were set apart. After I went through law school I realized that they were just like me - with human foibles and issues and that there are some good ones and some bad ones, just like attorneys, nurses, cashiers, etc. Doctors know medicine, I know the law. We each have our area of specialities the other doesn't understand. As as result I see them as just people with specialized training and they can be wrong and they can be right. We know ourselves better than any doctor, and we should always honor that and be our own best advocate. (Not that RJ has not done that, but I just wanted to mention it for those that find advocating hard to do - sometimes it is very hard to do, especially when you are afraid and don't feel good.)
My long-time doctor insisted that I need a hysterectomy, but I just wasn't willing to do it because I didn't feel like I had tried everything. It was hard for me to go and find another doctor, but I did. My female problems are gone now and if I have had a hysterectomy. I would have removed something that was worth saving.
We're all worth saving and evey experience we have and share with others, no matter how small or traumatic, is a learning/sharing experience for the posting person and for all of us in this great community.

Why? The Sleeve is proving to be just as successful as the bypass, with fewer short and long term complications! You should rejoice in the fact that you are able to have WLS at all! So many who desperately want and need it can't have it Don't worry, be happy!

You are so right, that doctor has no idea what it's like. We on the other hand do know. You are a shinning star, don't ever forget that. Besides there are millions of people with diabetes out there and they live with Hypoglycemia over their heads. Are they survivors, yes. Are they success stories, yes.
All of us are success stories. We are doing something about our obesity problem. We dare to have HOPE. Or we could just curl up and die. Let's face it, that's what we were all doing before WLS.
    Keep HOPE alive!

Unfortunately using tack, respect, and consideration are not a requirement for one to become a doctor. Those ones that do have these traits have the most patients.
You are very needed here and are definitely not a failure. Find a different doctor much love!

Weight loss surgery is for ONE THING. Weight loss! Everything else is gravy-- diabetes going away, coming off of blood pressure, pain meds, what have you... those are all BENEFITS to WLS but they are side benefits, not intended results. Were you overweight? Did you lose weight? Are you at a healthy BMI?
    Are you still alive?
Congratulations, you're WLS success story. That particular doctor defines success as WLS Solves All Health Problems. If it didn't heal your broken toe, it didn't work and you just 'survived the surgery'. Do us all a favor: drop that doctor and drop that friend that suggested this site does nothing for you. Hundreds of thousands of members completely disagree with her!

I said it wasn't personal. I have been to several and for different reasons and for all of them they had one solution. Here it is ready ( Don't do that! ) And no you don't know me and I understand that there are people out there who can help one another. Including professionals. ( shrinks ) I just never found one. I did get close though. But then she decided to go into helping children instead of adults. I loved her by the way. So my intent was not to put down any form of help...
Coddling. I did not ask for that.

As you know, I'm definitely in the "I'm not on a diet and I eat what I want when I want" camp. For me, all the tracking and measuring and counting and planning of meals is way too much like the dozens of failed diets I've been on in my life...,weight watchers, nutrisystem, HCG, zone, Atkins, etc. (and remember Richard Simmons food Mover?????). I just knew I could not stick with that type of regimented lifestyle. My daily routine is unpredictable and food rules and restrictions would be very frustrating. I knew I had to do it differently this time.
Here's a good example of why I eat the way I do.... Say I had a meal plan where I am supposed to have grilled chicken breast and broccoli for dinner. But on my way home I get to thinking about the commercial I saw for the new Subway pastrami sub. Mmm. That sounds good! So I could 1) go home and eat what's on my plan. I would be physically satisfied (not hungry), but I would be thinking about that pastrami sub and be bummed I couldn't have it. So I would go to bed mentally unsatisfied and stressed. Or 2) I could stop and get a pastrami sub with Swiss cheese, cucumbers, tomatoes, sprouts, onions and pickles. Give the top half of the bun to the dogs, eat 1/2 of the 6" sub and put the rest in the fridge. Now I will go to bed physically AND mentally satisfied.
The "get in all your Protein, Water and vitamins/everything else in moderation/eat when I'm hungry/don't overeat" plan has worked great for me. I guess the key is the what I want to eat part. I wouldn't be very successful if the answer to that was cake and Cookies and spaghetti and chips and ice cream. But fortunately, the things I want to eat are healthy, nutritious, usually (but not always) high Protein things. I eat sweets, but 1-2 bites is all I ever want.
I lost 100 pounds in 8 months doing it this way...22 pounds below my surgeons goal and 12 below my personal goal. My bloodwork is spot on, I feel fabulous and I have easily maintained within the same 2-3 pounds for almost 4 months. Granted, I'm only 1 year out and who knows what will happen in the next year or 5 years. I guess if I start gaining I will reassess my situation.
Just like everything else about this journey, it's about personal choices and what works for one person may not work for someone else. There are dozens of ways to be a successful WLS patient. Glad we have both found our ways.

I also LOVE chocolate. I could happily eat it for Breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A few years ago I just gave it up completely and now I have the rule that I can eat as much chocolate as I want in December, just not the rest of the year. My sleeve unfortunately is not a fan of chocolate, so this year it's December but I've only had a few bites and it has completely satisfied the craving. I'm not sure how far you are out from surgery, but you can have chocolate again and if you're like me, one or two bites will make you completely happy as opposed to a few thousand calories like I loved in the past.

I drive into the office twice a week (3 days a week at home). I bring in my own lunch and Snacks because it's too expensive to eat out. I used to pack my lunch bag with little goodies for the day. Not a lot, mind you. Just some tasty treats.
I am jonesing HARD for a piece of dark chocolate right now. You want to know what was packed in my lunch box for today? A Greek yogurt (had it this morning; few bites and full), my 1.5 oz of "chicken casserole" (diced chicken, pinch of steamed spinach, pinch of cheese, and some salsa), and some chicken broth for just in case I want something warm to drink.
My lunch bag is no longer fun. sigh. I will get through this today but I really want chocolate!

...Ran into a complete stranger in the grocery store and had a conversation about Protein and thought, "I wonder if she had WLS"? I swear it happened to me today.
I was at food Lion in Massanutten and this lady and her kids came down the aisle where the yogurt is. I had some light and fit vanilla in my hand and she asked me how it was. Told her that I mix my PB2 chocolate in it and put it in the freezer and it tastes kind of like a Reese cup. She said she doesn't really eat PB anymore and it's hard to find good protein that doesn't have peanuts in it.....I soooo wanted to ask her if she had it.

Please, please don't give up. I lost 10lbs the first week I was home and then literally stalled for FOUR weeks! I like you couldn't understand what I was doing wrong and I had read about 2-3 week stalls but never 4 weeks. Hang in there, one morning you'll wake up and another 5-10lbs will just fall off. I am 6 weeks postop

I wasn't trying to be sarcastic. I'm honestly trying to figure out why you would weigh yourself daily when it frustrates you. I did 2 weeks on full liquids and logged every day. Why? Because I did 3 different Proteins, (a powder, a liquid and a protein) and I made my own Soups so I still wanted to make sure I met my Protein requirement. Why? Because that was something I could do. I don't repeat actions that frustrate me. Even though I only weigh myself once a month, I under some people need to weigh more frequently. I can understand the weekly weighers. I really don't understand the daily weighers or rather I don't understand the people who weigh themselves frequently when it frustrates them if the scale doesn't move. I just choose to work my program in a way that provides the optimum positive reinforcement.

I really hate when people come on here just to say "stop whining!" The purpose of these particular forums is to compare experiences with others so you don't feel alone. If what we're talking about doesn't refer to you, it's really best to keep your laughing and bitch slapping fantasies to yourself. It absolutely doesn't serve any purpose.
