Kathy, what was your goal for your six month appointment? I really wanted to be 15 pounds less than at 4 months but I think it will just be 10, hopefully.

@@Peekboo, good luck w/your appointment. Wish I had suggestions but I fell below my goal by 1 lb. at least I know what I did wrong, I stopped exercising. my Bariatric team was very supportive but it didn't help. I was very disappointed in myself. Never thought I'd say this but I miss the restriction I had the first few months.

I too have noticed much more hunger and capacity which I find hard to resist. I have my 6 month appointment on Friday and I'm afraid that I haven't lost much since my 4 month weigh in. Hopefully I lose few more pounds before Friday. Any suggestions would be helpful. I seemed to be hooked on milky coffee drinks

@@friejenn I so agree with you, I can definitely eat more. My doctors office said it happens but we have to resist the urge.
@@VSGmary congrats on your nsv (eating meat), I will check that recipe out, thanks!!

I'm officially 6 months out today and I'm 110 lbs down (50kg). I am exactly half way there to my goal of 165lbs. Going by my surgeons goal I have 50 lbs to go so this is my short term goal.
I celebrated Easter yesterday at my parents home. Dad had a lamb gyros cooking on the spit and i can honestly say this has been the only time i have ever craved meat! I haven't been able to eat meat with what feels like ages. I recently was able to eat meat in Jerky form since being sleeved, and i was ok with that. Well i bit the bullet and tried a tiny piece of lamb with no fat on it. It went down, no feeling of wanting to hurl! This was one great NSV for me. I ended up having 3 more tiny tiny pieces of red meat throughout the day, just enough for the taste! Hehe. I kept to my Pescetarian type diet that i have had to adopt since being sleeved.
I am now wondering if i can eat chicken or even have some milk. I have the courage to try these out again and i plan on doing it today! ????. I recently found a delicious high Protein low calorie meal which i posted on the food sharing forums the other day here :
    http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/336932-easy-shrimp-quinoa-bowl/
And i would love to swap out the shrimp for some chicken! Mmm mmm mmm!

@@Kathy812 I appreciate the props. Getting off CPAP and not having to take any meds was a huge motivator for me. I started feeling like the pressure was way too high on my machine sometime in early December. I saw the sleep doc in the middle of the month hoping to just get the pressure titrated up so my head wasn't getting blown open every night. He actually told me that based on his physical examination of my airway that I may not need it anymore but had to have another sleep study to confirm. So in mid-January I did and was pleased to find out I no longer had sleep apnea. Initially I was hoping to be off my machine by June so it was a good surprise. Haven't worn it since. Good luck to you!

@@Peekboo I appreciate the nice comment. I eat 5 meals a day. Like most of you I get my calories from healthy foods. I don't just focus on smaller portions and lower calories. I try and get those lower calories from real food. I like grilled fish, chicken, low fat Cottage cheese, egg beaters, beef Jerky, occasional apple and orange, etc. I also have a serving of healthy fats every day...usually an avacado or almonds. I never, ever cheat. No pop, no caffeine, limited carbs. No bread. Just clean eating. I also exercise 5 days a week at a place called 9round Fitness. It's a 30 minute kickboxing gym. It's been huge for my success. I never get bored. I work really hard for 30 minutes and I'm done. Been a great experience for me. I also measure everything and track it on MyFitnessPal. I took this surgery very seriously. I knew, like alot of things in life, it was gonna be up to me as to how successful I'd be. Best of luck to you!

I wanted to ask. How much time did everyone take off from work. I'm taking vacation time off to do the surgery. I'm thinking of asking for two weeks. Is that enough time. I have a desk job

Hello All. I just had my last weigh in today. I have completed all my test requirements today. My doctors office is submitting all the paperwork to insurance next week. He put me down for surgery for May 11th pending approval which he said should not be a problem. This has been a long road. I started the process last Sept. I will be so happy when it's over. I'm totally ready to get on with my new life. I love reading the post on this forum. It's great talking to other AA who have been thru this. Thank you all for sharing your stories.

Thanks, I am working on embracing the new me. I bought two dresses with the hopes of one day wearing them, they looked way too small to me, but guess what they fit perfect! I went through my closet and removed three huge bags of clothes! I know I am a work in progress!

Unsure if you're welcoming the male perspective, but I topped out at 316 when I first started, and from the time I started seeing my nutritionist until now, I lost 136 lbs. Actually I could have gone even lower, but chose not to...I got to a comfortable weight that I and my primary doctor thought was healthy, then I started doing a little weight training just to gain a little muscle. I had my first appointment with the surgeon/nutritionist in September of 2013, had my surgery in January of 2014, and reached my goal weight in August 2014.
Hope this helps....wish you the best success!!! Please keep us posted on what you decide and how you're doing!!

Hope everyone is doing well. Sleeved 3/16 and down about 30lbs. The first places I've lost are in my face and boobs. I'm down from a 22 and into a 20 pushing an 18 already so I guess I've lost inches. I had to stop weighing daily so no measurements or scale until Monday.
I actually spoke with a plastic surgeon Tuesday unintentionally. Friend is having a Tummy Tuck by the doc most recommended for bariatruc patients. He wants me to come in asap so he can start documenting my progress. He said he gets 70% of his post bariatric procedures covered by insurance! He also said it will allow him to see how I'm losing which will lead to better outcomes. Crazy, huh?

Hi All. Great info here, very helpful. I was sleeved on March 4, 2015. Down 46 pounds which includes pre-op loss. Been in 2 week stall. However still losing inches. Started using MFP this week and wouldn't you know - too many carbs. Time to readjust. Wish me well to break this stall. :-)

Hey all! I was sleeved on 3/30/15. Pre-surgery I weighed in at 288, home scale this morning said 279. No nausea, minor cramping, the BLUES in excess, itchy sutures, but that's about it. I'm finally tracking my Water and Protein via MyFitnessPal. I just bought a "Jawbone UP" to help me kick my fitness up a notch. So I'm getting it together!

I'm only 6½ in but so far the worse area for is my gut. My thighs were juggly for a while but I wear compression yoga pants and tops and workout 5 days a week. Today I noticed I was a little less jiggly. There's not guarantee, but I'm doing as much as I can to prevent too much saggy skin from happening. I didn't have a pre-op diet and I'm down 75lbs since my surgery in September.
There was a guy who posted recently in the 400lbs forum that he was doing well. Losing lots of weight with the sleeve will take longer, but I believe it can be done. I was over when I was sleeved and hope to be down a 100lbs by May. The good news is the slower the loss, the more chance your skin has to snap back instead of sagging.

Post-op day 7, 5lbs. lost. The gas pains have subsided, and while I'm still swollen - I am certainly not as bloated as I was even 2 days ago. I have started drinking Protein Shakes, though I only manage to get down one per day, and I have increased my fluids to around 50oz per day. I walked 30 minutes on the treadmill yesterday and it felt good to be up and about. I'm looking forward to soft foods, for some reason I'm craving eggs and grits (which I haven't had in years!)

I'm not sure if I posted here yet but I'm pre op and still trying to decide between RNY or VSG. I'm currently 5'7 and 308 pounds and not sure I can lose as much as I need to with VSG?.
Is there anyone who was as big as me and successfully got to 150 or so? If so how long did it take to reach goal? How do you feel overall day to day...any heart burn issues, nausea etc.
Any thoughts would help...I'm having a horrible time trying to decide and my last appointment is April 23rd. Hoping for end of May surgery since I'm a Teacher and off in the summers so I have a lil more time to decide, I just want to make the best choice.
