BandedMi got a reaction from jules50 in Help, advice needed please
No one should be eating 800 calls a day unless under doctor supervision. Aim for 1200. Did you know that not eating enough actually slows your metabolism? I got my metabolism tested (easy,) and it's lower than normal. I, too, was eating too little. I increased it, focus on Protein Snacks, cheese, cottage cheese, Protein Bars, etc. are you exercising? 800 is way too low, IMO.

BandedMi got a reaction from CherieRyde in Meals & daily caloric intake
Good evening! I am 7 months out & stuck at 40lbs. I know part of it was my fault - I went off the wagon dec15-jan15 because my knees are killing me!
that being said, I recommitted myself and was taking a look at my diet. I was thinking 1800 calories was good. Reading around, I see many people say 1,000 calories.
so, ask my doctor, right? I called my doctor's office and told them I needed guidance. But, the problem I am having is: My doc office doesn't suggest calories. They simply ask you to make sure you get 80g protein/day, 5g of sugar less in fats and sugars.
I am so confused. I really need meal plans, what is my Breakfast supposed to look like? What can I eat for supper? Who wants to constantly eat chicken breast? Ahh!
I looked online for cookbooks and meal plans and for some reason, I cant find hardly anything! I am sorry if this is asked a lot, I really just need help! All along, I was thinking...ok...i can eat anything, just in small amounts. So, if I make spaghetti, I would eat spaghetti. Yet, I am supposed to eat hardly no noodles, right?
my dietician said 3 bites Protein, 1 bite veggie, 3 bites protein, 1 bite starch, 3 bites protein, I bit fruit. Repeat repeat repeat.
is this what you guys do, too...or does this sound odd. I thank you for any guidance!

BandedMi got a reaction from 2muchfun in flouroscopy fill
I was having trouble swallowing some foods that are soft/dry. It felt stuck in my upper throat, like literally behind my tongue. I asked my doc to do my first fill under flouroscopy and he did this was wonderful for me! He put 7 cc in and saw it wasn't going through the band, so he took .5 cc out, and says that should be good. I felt great after my appt, knowing my swallowing issues are not from a slipped or wrong band, but just my own bad eating habits. I only lost 3.5 lbs in the past month and a half pathetic, but I know its because I had no restriction and I honestly found myself giving in to Cookies, fried food. Issues I have with food run deep...every time I leave my house, I think about all the food I should go get. I gave up soda, but wow....that addiction is awful! I am glad I gave it up, but not a day goes by that I dont want one so bad! It was really neat seeing my stomach and throat on flouroscopy, I feel lucky my surgeon listens to me & cares about my requests. Dr. Coon of victorville/riverside is the best!!

But what will a therapist say? Find something else that brings you comfort? Or keep busy cleaning or playing? I saw a therapist, but it was useless because they felt it was fine to be me and I can do what I want. So...i stopped going.

Are you sure that isn't the anterior end of the short rib below the (usually) long T10?
As we begin to lose our 'continental glacier' layers of fat, the melting ice starts revealing stuff long hidden below.
One night I about gave myself a seizure of some kind when I discovered part of my own hip bone last seen circa 1958!
But if it gives you ongoing pain, have your provided palpate for further consideration.
    Great progress BTW!!!!

Soooo, I'm on day 5, I wanted to encourage people who are starting out on it! For me, the hunger was unbearable the first 3 days. I actually thought about backing out! I was having headaches, my vision was cloudy, my head foggy and all I wanted to do was sleep! Then, after day 3, that fog lifted and I actually felt good! I had energy to clean, I was not so tired. I'm not even hungry any more. I noticed the control I have over food, and it's pretty great! I will not lie, I have had a few bites here and there, or a few grapes or cherries.....but when I'm making my children food, I can only take a bite if it's something I really like, when before....I would have been out of control shoving my face with food! I am having a hard time drinking 5 shakes...I'm just no longer hungry....I am forcing myself to drink them, but I never drink 5. They are gross. My taste for fake sugar is not there, I almost threw up a few times.
My Preop diet is only one week, 5 shakes a day & an apple or lean cuisine under 300 cals if you are not able to just drink your shakes.
I can not imagine doing it any longer!! But be encouraged, for some people....it's just the first few days that are unbearable!
I know a girl who had a bypass, she didn't do Preop diet right and had many complications during the surgery. I can't say it was because of the Preop diet or not though...because I don't know exactly what happened, but I know she couldn't and didn't do Preop diet.
    Well, my day is Friday!

BandedMi got a reaction from Mikee57 in Eating w/others
I wanted to ask a few questions because I have a funny problem.
Maybe it's a good thing. I love food! But when I eat with others, in public, I don't eat a lot. I am too self conscious, I eat like a bird. But at home...or by myself... I eat like I would never eat in front of others. Is this a good thing because it shows SOME control? Or is this a dangerous thing bc it shows bad habits? Does anyone else do this???

The mental part usually goes away once you're banded and filled properly. The high you get from getting down on the carpet or grass and keeping up with your kids will replace that relationship you have with food. Unless your kids are brats LOL
Here's a post from someone I can't recall, but it fits:
"In my case, the most fearful thing I had to do in order to succeed with my band wasn't switching to skim milk, surviving a liquid diet, or giving up bread. The most fearful thing was giving up my emotional attachment to food. In the nearly 5 years since I was banded, I've made a lot of progress with that, but the attachment is still there. It forms one of the innermost layers of my turtle shell. Working on that layer will probably be a lifetime job for me. At times I'm not even sure I truly want to get rid of it altogether. At times I'm afraid that if I shed my shell completely, I won't be able to survive. On the other hand, I seem to be doing fine without that thick old bitch layer. So I'm going to pay attention to my dreams rather than my fears and pray for a miracle. And why not? It can't hurt to try!"

Hey you! No worries! My surgery is outpatient! That's amazing! Well, to me. I'm not saying there won't be pain, but you have to think.....if its horrible pain....they aren't going to send you home with a few norcos and be like....bye!!!! They want me walking right away after, I'll go home within like 5 hours of the operation, if all goes well! You got this I will be praying for you!
