I am very new to the lapband terminology, so thank you for the correction. Now the that this is approved by the FDA, I will contact the doctor I planned to have follow visits with to make sure they can still provide services. Thank you for the heads up about US doctors. If this changes things about my ability to receive follow up care, I will just wait until after the 20th. I am scheduled for surgery on October 11th in Mexico. A few moments ago, I was contacted by the patient coordinator who said the older enamel lapbands are delayed in customs until October 20th. They kindly offered to pay for the rescheduled flight, but also offered to keep the surgery for the current date if I were open to receiving the new REALIZE™ Adjustable Gastric Band. Thoughts anyone? It was just approved by the FDA in September and the official webpage will not be complete until December 2007. I need to make a quick decision.. hoping someone has received this new band already....

Congratulations to all of the expecting mothers! This is the main driver behind me having the surgery. Please keep us posted on your progress. FYI - One doctor I previously spoke to stated it is best to wait one year after the surgery before getting pregnant. Was this the case with each of you?

My husband and I have been married for almost seven years and have been trying to get pregnant for three. My body has not yet responded to any medications and the driver behind this is my insulin resistance. My fertility specialist has now classified me as high risk and discontinued her treatments due to my A1C levels. Without lose of weight, my condition, PCOS and Insulin Resistance will prevent me from getting pregnant. Throughout this ordeal, I have been treated by an endocrinologist to assist with weightloss, but it has been unsuccessful. I have attempted to see three different doctors in the U.S. Two offices refused to see me because my BMI is 33.4 and not 35. Stuck at 33, my chances of having a child seemed slim. I started looking into Mexico and now have a surgery date for October 11th. I am very excited and look forward to feeling better physically and just about myself in general. I am most excited about the increased chance of becoming a mother. My doctor is Dr. Jose Rodriguez (JoseBand)

I am currently scheduled for surgery with Dr. Jose Rodriguez in Mexico also. I am traveling all the way from Pennsylvania because US doctors have denied assisting me (even though my BMI is 33.4). My husband and I have been unsuccessful with fertility treatments for three years because of my insulin resistance. I am excited for this opportunity and will update everyone as soon as I can.

I am scheduled to have surgery with Dr. Jose Rodriguez whose information can be found at www.joseband.com. As others have suggested, I conducted research online and have found several positive things about him. His infection rate is published on his webpage as 2% and I also took the liberty of contacting several of his referrals. One referral included a professor at the Univ of Houston.

This post is very helpful. I am scheduled for surgery on October 11th. Simliar to one of the previous posts, I had the expectation that I would be up and moving regularly by the third day. Thank you for taking the time to share your experieces. I tend to be the anti-hypocondric and sometimes over-exert myself. This made things much more realistic regarding what I may be facing. I'm also having the surgery in Mexico. Will keep you posted.
