Please try to stick to your doctors recommended diet. You just had surgery that removed 80% of your stomach. Everything is pretty swollen and numb. Key word being "numb" so you might not feel the potential damage you are doing by advancing your diet before time. Trust me you don't want to end up with a complication or a leak because you have no self control. The reason they have you on liquids is because upsetting your sleeve and throwing up at this time can cause a bleed or a leak. Keep that in mind next time you think you might be hungry. I've been sleeved for almost 2 years it does get better as the days go by.. Chin up I'm here if you have questions or encouragement.

My Dr does a drain, his partner does not. It was really no problem and kept me close to home for the first week. I just didn't want to deal with it at the office. The stuff the drain collects is absorbed in your body if you don't have one. I also wonder if it may have helped with gas pain. I had zero gas pains that others talk about.

I am going to move ahead and get the info needed to start my own meetings. It seems as though moving about the suburbs would be advantageous. Maybe one meeting in glen Ellyn, one in geneva, one in Oakbrook etc so we can all benefit. I am willing to go the extra to get info and perhaps add value for us all.

Uh oh ! Here comes the Tough Love Train !!!!!! Honey , HE is treating YOU like crap, and yet you're asking " how do I get HIM up and moving again ?" How about with a swift kick to the A $$ !!!! That'll get him moving !!!! Its one thing to be a "little " demanding or snarky after surgery, hey we were all there probably , from the pain , etc. Its a totally different thing when someone is verbally abusive and refuses to do anything for himself. TOTALLY. DIFFERENT. HE needs to see a psych Dr to deal with his behavior, and you might want to see him /her too to find out why you feel its your respondsibility to deal with HIS problems that HE wont deal with himself. Tell him "God helps those who help themselves " and " Not my circus , not my monkeys ! " - ( it means " not my problem ") sending you hugs !

I agree with all of the suggestions about getting away and forcing him to be self sufficient. If he's ever going to get with the program he needs to work it. You doing all his work isn't doing him any good. When I came home from my surgery I WANTED to do everything for myself. I knew that I couldn't count on anyone to do this for me. If he refuses to go to his psych for help, call his surgeons office, explain the situation and ask if you can go so you can find ways to get him thru this. I wish you luck with this, take care of yourself first and always.

I'd go visit a friend or relative for a week or two and leave him on his own, personally. If I didn't have that option, I'd go to a hotel at the beach and take a vacation.
People will only treat you like poo if you let them. Don't let him. You are worth more than that.

Wow, I'm surprised he passed the psych eval for surgery approval. Unless this is entirely new behavior for him. Does his bariatric team have a counselor you could talk to? They may see this all the time and have suggestions for you. You can't continue to live this way. It's not fair to you and he does not need an enabler. I agree with all the above posts about getting out and taking care of yourself.

Not to sound snarky but if he "demands" that bring him ice or Water or a Protein drink....what will happen if you don't bring it to him? I would think he would be forced to do things for himself(which of course he should be doing)
PLEASE take care of yourself....I don't know you but I do know EVERYONE deserves to be treated with love and respect. YOU deserve that.

You're in a stall.. Your body is in shock from surgery and trying to figure out what happened. Stalls usually happen for every wls patient at around 3-4 weeks. I wouldn't be worried, at this point your body is still healing. Plus, your calories are still pretty low and your body probably thinks its starving. Keep off the scale for a few days/weeks. It'll start coming off again soon.
Pouch tests are more for veterans who have been slacking on their eating or eating too big of portions, or just need a reset.

I love melissa mcarthy! Shes a comedian and is making her way in this world the best way she can. I for one love her talent and she makes me laugh. She's an actress , she's doing what she does and her being fat is just who she is. Other comedians have their nitch and she's got hers! I don't find her insulting, she accepts herself and is happy with who she is!!

I felt like death for the first few days home. I felt great, even practically ran out of the hospital. Then the drugs wore off about two minutes into the car ride home. Rest assured by day 3 things will be more tolerable, and by day 5 it will be almost unnoticeable.
My one piece of advice for every new post-op is to make a bed wedge by creating a pyramid of pillows and covering it with a blanket to prop yourself up with for the first few days. Every night, remove one pillow so you're a little lower and you should be able to sleep on your back and roll over within a week.

    Hello everyone,
I went to see my Primary Care Physician's, (PCP) office yesterday to ask for a permanent disabled placard. I have multiple orthopedic problems in my spine and my knees are so bad they need to be replaced but I am considered too young for the surgery.
First the medical tech taking my vitals made a comment and it did not bode well with my visit with my PCP. I was so upset I mailed off a letter to them today. I've redacted, (in Italics) the personally identifiable information:
    Here's the letter:
    June 24, 2014
    Kathleen XXXXX-XXXXX
    000 Xxxxxx Xxxxx Drive
    Anywhere, Texas 7xxxx
Ref: Visit to office to obtain disabled parking placard.
    Dear Managing Physician,
This is to advise you of the completely unprofessional, rude, non-caring, inappropriate conduct, I experienced during my scheduled visit to your office on June 23, 2014.
I was attended by a Xxxxx Xxxxx, PA-C. The purpose of the appointment was to obtain a permanent handicapped parking placard. I am a patient of the a local Orthopedic Group and I see two physicians, Xxxxxx Xxxxxxx, D.O., for my spinal problems and Dr. Xxxxxx Xxxxxxx, M.D. for my knee problems. In March of 2014 I saw Xxxxxx Xxxxxxx, D.O., to authorize a permanent handicapped placard. His staff informed me that only a primary care physician could authorize a permanent handicapped placard. Although I thought this was odd, I did not question it at the time.
I scheduled an appointment and came to your office on June 23, 2014 to obtain from my primary care physician the documentation needed to obtain the permanent handicapped placard. The staff member who took my vitals and prepared me to see the Physician’s Assistant said: “So who told you that you were disabled?” I found this question to be intrusive, personal, and condescending. It is my understanding that this type of question should only be asked by my primary care physician and falls under the patient confidentiality act. Not a staff member whose purpose is to take my vitals and prepare me to see the Physician’s Assistant.
During my meeting with Ms. Xxxxxxx I was then told in a very insulting manner that: “We don’t give handicapped placards to anyone with a little bit of back pain.” I was also informed that: “If we give handicapped placards to everyone with a herniated disc, there would be lots of people with handicapped placards.”
I was so taken aback by these statements and I couldn’t believe it. For my request to be taken so lightly and my pain so minimized by someone who has never examined me was very disheartening. I realize that the office did not have my X-rays, MRIs or records from the local Orthopedic Group to form an informed opinion. However, to completely doubt the veracity of my request and to make it sound as if it were frivolous made me very angry. Are all patients treated with this level of doubt? Apparently it is not necessary to make a medical judgment by taking a proper medical history. Per chance personal judgment and prejudice determines a person’s medical condition.
I will see to it that your office will receive a copy of my records from the local Orthopedic Group so a more informed opinion can be formed.
Also I am disabled vet with a 40% VA disability rating BECAUSE of my knees and back.
    Kathleen XXXXX-XXXXX
