  1. Well, I do know they will repair the hernia during the surgery itself, they did for me. The gastric sleeve does increase odds of gastric reflux, indigestion and other digestive/gastric issues. You will need to speak with your surgeon regarding all of this for sure! Good luck to you!!!
  2. You can get Isopure at GNC, Vitamin Shoppe, etc...
  3. Yes, I had a hard time at least the first five days with the protein shakes. Not only did they make my stomach upset but it seemed my tastes buds changed and the were just nasty to me. I went to the GNC and bought a few of their Isopure drinks that have 40 g of protein each. I can now tolerate the shakes again. 11 days out and I wish u much luck!!!
  4. I'm so sorry u r in pain... You ate actual ice cream? I don't think that's allowed hun. Clear liquids only I believe! I am on day 10 clear liquids. Praying everything works out!
  5. 9 days out and it looks like i'm having my chocolate protein dinner shake w/ banana! No food is torture! I think we'll manage. Great idea!
  6. What a God send! My name is Denise. I am 9 days out and live in Irvine. I really would love to be a part of a more personal circle support group.
  7. 9 days post op and yes I has the scratchy throat for a couple days and woke up on the 3ed day with my throat on fire. Went to ER and had Strep Throat! What a misery to go through all of this at the same time. They gave me morphine shot and sent me home with The Z-pac (antibiotic) and morphine tablets because the pain meds I was on was not sufficient! I was really not happy or nice on my second trip to the ER and made them give me a shot of penicillin. Things turned around quickly for the better after that! If it's just scratchy irritation, it's what's expected. At four days I'd call the doctor, especially if it's getting worse. Good luck to you!.
  8. I really appreciate the encouragement! I was feeling like such a loser... I am so glad we have this forum! It really brought me to tears to read the comments. I feel the support which is so amazing!!! Thank You!!! Oh, My family has already told me they can see weight loss. Yay!!!
  9. I am 8 days out and am going through head hunger so bad! I want FOOD!!!! I would never admit this but I need to call myself out on this because I know it is for my best. I have been putting food in my mouth chewing it up so I could feel like I'm eating and then spitting it out. I know I should not be doing this. In fact, the more I write the more clear it is I need to be addressing my whole food addiction issue. I've got it bad! Hope I can find someone who can relate and offer their take on my situation... =(
  10. Thanks! Great tip! I'm hating everything right now! 8 days out and I want FOOD!!!! =/ Thanks for listening
  11. There is a window about 18 months. Once you get locked in with a doctor you will be going to classes that educate you on what the surgery you are choosing is all about, what you can expect and so on... Good luck to you
  12. I am 1 week out today and I can say I was taking the gasx strips & walking and was told the gasx strips only work for the pain trapped in my digestive track. The majority of my pain was radiating from below my chest to my back. I started walking and paying attention to my body moving slightly and raising my arms this and that way. The pain is horrible I know! And It will pass... Praying for u.... keep us posted.
  13. Tomorrow I am one week post op. Ironically, I started my period the day before surgery too! It's not so bad. I couldn't and didn't sleep the night before either. You will be alright! I am 6 days out and feel good. I drove for the first time today. My mom has been here taking care of me. I wish you all the best my friend! I am very hopeful of my future. See u on the other side....
  14. Yes, I'm 5 days out and itching as well. I know better than to scratch them though. I have scratched around the sites and also used a q-tip with rubbing alchohol around it. Hope it lightens up for u soon...
  15. I can completely relate. I had the lapband from 2009-2013. So uncomfortable, can't eat beef, white meat chicken, biscuits, rolls, etc. So many things would send me flying to the bathroom to vomit. To the point there were rumors I was bulimic. I had it removed last year and gained between 30-40lbs. I am now 4 days post op. I am still in pain and on meds but I have so much hope and feel this is exactly the tool for me!. Wish u much luck and success whatever u choose! =)!
  16. I can say that I've personally encountered much more fails in Lapband and the gastric bypass surgeries than in the sleeve. You have to do what feels right for you! Each one of these surgeries have risks. Each one also requires effort and commitment to change as well. I wish you much success on your journey!!!
  17. Oh no! I don't think your doctor would approved you to go back to work if he knew you may be running and straining in any way within the first 4 to 6 weeks. There is still discomfort and healing happening in your body. If all u did was a desk job then that would be different .I would not put myself in any position that could cause physical harm. I think you should have an honest talk with you doctor. Good luck to you
  18. I am only 4 days out from my VSG. I had the lapband from 5/09 -4/13. I got the hiccups all the time and I let that be my tool telling me when to stop eating. I didn't know that happens with the sleeve as well..
  19. I'm four days out and have not meet the Protein or the liquid quotas yet! I drank an Isopure 40g protein, chocolate Protein shake 30g, and Water. I can not seem to comfortably consume more than that yet! It's ok, I'd rather go slow and not get as much in than to drink more than I feel comfortable with and potentially damage my sleeve. Just do the best u can and listen to your body.
  20. I am not sure if what I am experiencing is normal or not! I feel off in my head, dizzy, fevers the highest being 101.1. I feel so lethargic. Please let me know if any of u experienced this after surgery...
  21. I agree. Our issues with food need to be addressed if we wish to sustain a real lifestyle change. I am seeing a personal therapist. I know that many of the Hospitals that perform Bariatric surgeries also offer bariatric support groups. Al least I know they do here in Southern CA where I live. I went to OA a few times and cried because I knew this was a deeper problem and didn't continue because of the fear I had about changing and addressing my love relationship with food. I will do whatever it takes to succeed at this. Congratulations and good luck to u
  22. Today is day 4 postop. I woke up feeling light headed and dizzy. The room was seriously spinning. Also, I have been running low grade fevers. Has this happened to anybody out there? Maybe because I am so low on calories and food?? Feedback would be grately appreciated.
  23. Oh no! I'm so sorry u r experiencing so many issues with your sleeve. I am just 4 days post op. I am unsure how common ulcers are after sleeve. I have known a couple people who had the gastric bypass an got ulcers too. I pray they go away and that your overall heath be strengthened.
  24. Hello Friend! I too am 4 days post op. I was told by my Dr. that I can start taking the Protein shakes when I got home. However, I really don't think my body was ready for that. I was so nauseous. I decided to hold off on anything but Clear liquids for a few more days. I am not the least bit hungry though. I went to the GNC store and bought some Isopure Protein drinks. They are a tasty clear liquid like kool-ade w/different flavors but each bottle has 40 grams of protein and is easy on my stomach. It is a challenge to get in all the fluids. I just keep on sipping and doing my best. I am concerned about drinking too much at one time still unsure the size and feel of the sleeve. To me I'd rather be safe than sorry. How much fluids do u think you are getting in per day so far? I might have done around 40 oz. If you are get really dehydrated call your Dr. or go to Urgent Care or ER and get some fluids. I hope u get better. Keep us posted...
