My doctor gave me specific diet rules to follow. Full liquids for 2 weeks, soft foods for 2 weeks, then solids. Small bites and chew to a paste consistency. Don't drink with meals and go very slow. Start with foods you know you can handle then add a new food. It's been a struggle for me too. Still resort to a lot of soft foods and I'm 7 weeks post op. Good luck!

fuzzymonkey reacted to BladeFox in How do I keep carbs at a minimum at this point?
Go for Protein first, it will keep you full for much longer. Make the stuff that you are eating your snack foods in low quantity and that should do the trick. Good luck.
BTW, this is something that you will always have to be reminded to do when you get stuck.

I'm sure your surgeon is very competent, but my concern is that it seems that post op life was not adequately explained to you. Aside from just the types of food you should be eating, someone should have gone over with you portion sizes and the fact that you should not drink with your meals and up to 1 hour after.
Does your surgeon have an on staff dietician that can go over these basics with you?
I'm saying this because not following some of these basic rules can really affect your weight loss, and considering what we have all gone through to get to have this surgery, I would hate to see all the hard work go to waste.

Tonya, this is very worrisome. Not that you made a mistake, everyone makes mistakes. What's worrisome is that none of this was ever explained to you by your doctor or their staff.
Where did you have your surgery done? My doctor and his staff and dietician have been very proactive about making sure I am very prepared for the life changes after surgery, and from what I've seen on this site, most everybody else here has had a similar experience.
If you had your surgery somewhere that did not go over these things with you and don't have adequate follow up, I strongly encourage you to find that assistance elsewhere.

My dad was raised in the south, when I hear tea, I automatically think black tea - iced and sweet. I do know there is other decaffeinated teas though.
My Nut/dietician and surgeon work together and both said the same thing but it is a debate out there, every plan is different. I get the majority of my fluids from Water. I count the Protein drink as fluids on the days when I just cant get fluids in.

I was sleeved on 2/28 and as of Today, 5/30, I haven't experienced any Hair loss. I do take the following Vitamins daily: optisource citrus chewable multi Vitamin 4x a day, Nature Made VitaMelts contains 2500mcg of Biotin and 60mg of Vitamin C, and a sublingual liquid B complex with B12. I eat lots of chicken breast and start my day with an Atkins shake that has 15g of Protein. I feel confident that as long as I take my vitamins and stick to a high protein diet, I won't experience hair loss.

fuzzymonkey reacted to LumpySpacePrincess in Full Liquids to Pureed – ideas please?!
Avoid the pureed starches like potatoes because they will take up space in your wee stomach that needs to be filled with Protein. Seriously, everything you eat right now needs to have a high Protein content! The veggies of course will taste great and satisfy that head hunger, but they are not giving you what you need nutritionally right now.
I ate some refried Beans, but I also pureed roast chicken thighs (skinless; 1/3 cup Water for every 2/3 cup cut up chicken will give you a nice consistency), Underwood canned meats that are already puree consistency, pureed tuna salad made with low-fat mayo, and tons of yogurt. Don't even bother with baby food from the jar..its really disgusting! You can also eat cottage cheese right now if its small curd.
Yes, everything does need to be smooth, with the exception of baked fish because you can chew that enough to puree it in your mouth. Hope this helps!

The sleeve doesn't stop you from eating "bad" foods...It stops you from eating large amounts of "bad" foods.
You are in control of what you put in your mouth and the quantities in which you do that. I have found that I can "eat around" my sleeve - I can eat lots of carby foods like tortilla chips and never feel full.
You still need to practice self control and make good choices.

I was having a hard time gettin in my Protein because I'm one of the people that liked my previous shake before surgery and after, couldn't drink it without gagging.
I began to research and found a Protein Isolate shake "purest premium protein" it taste great and the price was just as acceptable. The flavor is vanilla Creme and mixes into Water best. If u like vanilla shakes, u will love this stuff...
A seller for me was I hated having 3 shakes a day to get 60 grams of protein. Now I make one shake with 12 oz of water and 2 scoops and I'm set for the day. I can freeze it and eat it with a spoon or because Its 98% lactose free I can even leave it sitting out and it doesn't sour. I can take all day with my 1 shake and meet my minimum goal....I love it!!
    Try it....

I am in the same time frame as you. I can ONLY eat 2oz before I get heartburn which is the sleeves way of telling me I am full. I can get about 30-40 oz of Water in. Stay away from nuts, plain eggs, leafy veggies and do try to get more water in. This is what may be making you feel nausea also with any foods too fibrous as to which you say you a the eating.

Just had my upper GI. The Radiologist told me I have delayed gastric emptying. The nerves in my stomach aren't working properly, the contrast just sits there instead of funneling through. This could be a temporary effect from the surgery, or it could be permanent (not good).
It does explain my symptoms, why I feel so full all the time it's hard to get my fluids in. At least I know it hasn't all been in my head. Waiting to talk to my surgeon now to see what the game plan is. I just want to go home.

I guess (per my Dr) it is fairly minimal with us during months 3-6, but it does grow back. The Hair loss is less than RuenY. There are shampoos and Vitamins to help that, but some is expected- per my understanding.

Am 5 weeks out an I know that I am to aim for 500 calories and 60-70 Protein a day, but I am only getting 300 calories and about 30-40 protein a day.... Any advice? I am only eating the suggested 3 meals a day, but for the sake of recommended daily allowances I was thinking of having a 4th meal. Good idea or not?

I do a shake in the morning 5 oz. because when I go back to work in a week eating a Breakfast will not be a routine for me, instead sipping on my breakfast will be. But that is a good idea to maybe take my meds with a shake.

Are you allowed Protein Bars yet? I'm not a big fan because the texture and artificial tastes are gross to me. But I found one I like that might fill your need for crunch. GNC lean bars... Just picked up a variety pack at Sam's Club. chocolate Chip, Cocolate Peanut Butter and strawberry Yogurt. Their texture is similar to rice crispie treats and tasted pretty good.

Am on my week four of post op, curious as to if Pork rinds ( the kind from Old Dutch in the snack food section) are acceptable. No carbs and 7g of Protein per serving ( high in sodium). Anyone else snack on them?
