I agree with Elode. It will be in your discharge instructions, I bet. Just ask him to be patient.

WLS and incontinence
I've seen a urologist. He said weightloss should take care of it.

Introvert here.... Told my mother. yay me... not!
just take care of you. My mom (85 years old) think she knows it all too, and tries to convince me that if I have the surgery, I'll just gain it all back anyway, because she saw a program that said these people gained it all back, so that means everyone does. geesh. Mom's are great, but sometimes we just have to love them, and then just take care of ourselves, Mom's are the BEST with dishing out guilt. I think my mom could teach a course in it. lol

But, can you have a good hard laugh and not pee your pants? Sneezing is also an issue for me. I really want this resolved.

Well meaning "advice" from our support group
This has nothing to do with BP. I get tons of support while I begin this journey. But today, I got a call from my 85 year old mother. She was against the surgery at first, but it grew on her, and she finally accepted the fact that I couldn't be talked out of it. So she gave up and decided to do some research. Now, my 85 year old mother has no computer, no internet. She has cable tv. So, she has been watching documentaries on WLS. She advised me that no one (NO ONE) has ever, or will ever succeed with their weight loss goals if they have the surgery. She told me that everyone gains it all back. She said she watched a show that had a man on his way home the day after surgery and stopped at a drive through and ate 3 big hamburgers, fries and a 64oz coke. I said..."Mom, that's tv. And if you want to do some research I will pick you up and we can go to a support group meeting together, and you can hear from "real" people and not tv people". She, declined, of course, because she knows it all now. She doesn't need to know anymore. I told her if she doesn't change her channel and watch something else, I'm calling the cable company and cancelling her service! HA! for crying out loud! REALLY??!!! I love my mom, but this really isn't helpful.

How does Sleep Apnea complicate the VSG date?
I didn't like the nose pillows either Or the headgear. I told them I hated it, and got to trade it for a really super soft nose mask, with the "bella loops" (the loops that go just around your ears!) MUCH less gear, and if you are claustrophobic like me, this was the answer. BTW, I love my cpap. I sleep so much better, never sleep with my mouth open anymore. I adjust the humidity, so I am don't dry out my nose or sinuses. And I do not snore. I am also able to sleep on my stomach with it. (oddly enough). Hope this helps.

WLS in the Media
Yeah, I just can't bring myself to watch stuff like that. I would rather speak to real people at support groups, or friends I know who are down 100+ pounds because they chose WLS over death. Programs like that are not unbiased anyway. They are all about $$ and selling the program. (sponsors, and whatnot). I have family members (my Mom) who watches this stuff, and calls me and tries to convince me not to go the WLS route, because I will fail, because everyone fails. (that is what she has learned by watching these programs). Ok, i'm off my soapbox now. Carry on...........

Your Healthy Holiday Weight Loss Surgery Cheat Sheet
Great advice! I especially enjoyed the part about having to listen to the coworkers friends husband talking about his snail collection. I swear that happens at every party (not necessarily about snails, of course), but I will smile and appear interested when it happens now.

The bariatric Center of Kansas city, Dr. Hoehn
All I can say is WOW. I intend to use Dr Hoehn, but I live 5 minutes from the Bariatric Hospital. He must be really awesome for folks to make that long of a drive. That makes me feel like I made the right decision.

WLS in the Media
What I wrote here earlier was too depressing, ,so I deleted it, So I will just say, Good morning, and everyone have a great day, and enjoy the program, if you watch it.

WLS in the Media
This topic interested me when I saw it this morning. The media have put some horrible doubts into peoples minds about this life saving procedure. I hope this documentary is uplifting. So many are not. In fact they are mostly about the 1% who fail and gain it back or have complications. I haven't seen too many documentaries on wls that are positive and uplifting. Because of the message these programs put out there, many educated people (that I know personally) believe that after I have this surgery something horrible will happen, or I will just gain it back anyway, like every other "diet" I've been on. Sometimes attitude is everything, and if you go into this with the attitude that some of these documentaries talk about, then you'll probably chicken out (not you, but anyone who puts all their faith in the media). I know too many people whose lives were saved with wls to believe some of these programs that deliver doom and gloom. Ok, I'm off my soapbox now. Sorry for the "media" rant. Have a great day!
