  1. @@laguerr13 There are quite a few bariatric veterans on this site that helped me make my decision, and they give me some great advice when I'm in a panic over something dumb. I'm still learning what works and what doesn't. At first I was hungry all the time. No kidding. I thought maybe the doc took my stomach but left the grehlin hormone behind. lol But once I began soft foods, I filled up really quickly. I have to remind myself to chew the crap out of everything and take my time eating (or it feels stuck in my chest), and I have to remind myself to drink. Drinking seems to be harder for me when I'm at work, but I am going to figure that one out too. If you need anything, as far as advice we all will try to help you out. But I only know from my own experience, and everyone is different, and experiences things differently. So far I am psyched at how great I feel. So...cheers to you, friend!! You will do great!
  2. WOW! that seems like a lot to me. I am 5 weeks out and I can only eat about a tablespoon of chicken. My surgery was 4/23. Chicken is so dense, I don't know how you ate that much.
  3. @@craigcu You made me laugh out loud! I, too, am eating a spoonful of stuff. I understand!!
  4. Attitude is everything! We've touched on this before. I went into this knowing exactly what to expect and what I wanted, and I KNEW everything would work out, and it did! My husband was worried too. Until I was wheeled from recovery to my room and he saw that I survived the surgery and I was my same ornery self. You can't stop her from worrying, but it only lasts till you wake up on the "losers bench". Take care!
  5. Can you tolerate sugar free Jello? I practically lived on that for 2 weeks. Plus it helped with my nails and my hair! AND it filled me up a little better than just plain old liquids.
  6. @@Dream125 Here's a tip from someone who knows......don't rush into soft foods too quickly. I felt hungry too at first. Now that I am on soft foods I get full so quickly. I've told people that I don't know how I am still alive with as little as I eat. One tablespoon of pureed pork roast, and I am FULL to the gills. I can't imagine being able to eat more than what I eat now. I am afraid to. I'm sure I would toss my cookies! Best wishes to you.
  7. It really amazes me how I can still be alive with the tiny bit of food I can eat. I am only 5 weeks out, but STILL!! I pureed some pork to have with a few green Beans. I (maybe) got in 1 tablespoon of the pork and 2 green beans.
  8. OH! @@bikrchk I learned all about the volatility of hot liquids in shakers years ago!! lol But thanks for the reminder!
  9. I was going to...that was my plan. But I had meetings all day, so no food funeral for me.
  10. I was told by my surgeon to wait 2 full months. I am 5 weeks. I tried a cup of decaf the other day...just a sip. I didn't care for the "coffee" taste. I think I am missing the heaps of sugar and calorie laden coffee creamer I used to use. Black coffee or black coffee with stevia just doesn't do it for me. Gonna try tea.
  11. Kidneys! Yes! that's what I meant.
  12. 1 week of liquids only and I lost quite a bit. I think it was around 10 pounds in that one week. Doc was pleased!
  13. Oh...yeah the fat is kinda "out". Not a good idea. I googled the Keto diet, and while you will go through ketosis (drink lots of Water to help your liver!!) you don't eat the fat. Once you are out a ways, you can add some fat to your diet though. I will use a little real butter, or I use real mayo in my chicken salad. Stuff like that. I don't do fat free anymore.
  14. That's just strictly Protein, right? That sounds like how we eat with the sleeve.
  15. You need your protein @@GSDMom Look for Isopure at GNC or other liquid Proteins. I understand that some of the shakes are a little thick this soon to your surgery, but you do have other options. Unflavored in crystal light is what I used. And as far as it feeling like it's getting stuck, it may be that your sips are a little bigger than you realize, or you are sipping and then sipping again too soon. Slow down and sip ALL THE TIME to get your fluids in. That is crucial so you don't become dehydrated. Take care!
  16. My husband was exactly the same way! You are NOT alone! My husband talked behind my back to his mother, my mother, his sisters....his friends. He was told about every BAD thing that COULD happen, but nothing about all the GOOD things that would happen. I really think he was secretly hoping I'd decide against having the surgery all the way up until surgery day. But once I woke up, and I was my old ornery self, and nothing had changed, (still look the same, acted the same.....loved him the same) he became my cheerleader. He has started cooking!! He's trying new recipes and fixing them so I can eat it. (He is retired and I work fulltime). My advice is for you to do what is best for you. He will come around and support you, or he won't. If he won't it's his loss. Take care.
  17. I'll be 5 weeks post op on Thursday, and I noticed it hurting (pain level is about a 3 or maybe 2) again. Incisions look great, I feel great otherwise. I wonder if the jeans I was wearing the other day were too tight in the waist while I sat all day at work. The slight pain is where my waistband sits. No nausea, no fever, no redness. I'm blaming the healing process. Or my jeans.
  18. Thank Goodness I am not alone! I have had severe constipation twice since surgery. It was the most excruciating experience I can ever remember in my life! I thought I was going to have to go to the ER to have it removed from my body! I take MIralax every day now, at least until I can have some veggies and fruit. Lordy, I'd rather have loose stools than constipation. What a pain in the A........well, you know.
  19. I am just like that. Once I decided on the sleeve, and did my research, I never once was worried or concerned. I Knew in my heart I would do great, and I did. No issues afterward at all, and I'm still doing great. I jumped through every hoop without falter, and never looked back. I never had second thoughts or feelings of regret. I was totally comfortable with it from the start. Never had "buyers remorse" either. I'm stoked that I did this, and some days I just can't hardly believe I actually did it. But I did, and I'm 40 pounds lighter already....and I just began! I can't wait for the future! It's hard to even sit still! I just want to get out there and do all the things I couldn't do for so long. Best of luck to you on your journey!
  20. It may seem like grazing at first, because it is necessary to have a snack or two in order to get in all the protein. I believe once you start solids, it gets easier, but a snack may still be needed for the protein requirement
  21. chew chew chew...and sloooooow down!!
  22. follow the rules and You will likely NOT fail. I can't see how this could fail....I can eat soooo little. But I feel sooooo good!!
  23. hey! I can get up off the floor now...ALL BY MYSELF!!!! and it isn't a struggle, and that is only after about 40 pounds!!
  24. 53 here!! Had my surgery 4/23/15 and already feeling awesome! Doing things I couldn't do before! Not out of breath anymore, BP is normal, I can walk for miles, and I enjoy it!! Like others have said....wish I had done it sooner. I kept thinking I could do it with a "diet". I was wrong. Best of luck to you @
