While I weighed 250 in 2009 when I was banded, I weighed 174 9 mths ago when I had my sleeve revision. My BMI was 28. But my insurance covered it cuz I had a band complication. I had a 24 hr pre op diet so I'm of no help there
So yes, there's a few of us around that started at less than 200. Good luck to u!

Oh my goodness! Thank you so much! I almost started thinking I'm crazy or my scale is broken, but it is literally coming off seems like 1lb everyday. You've really eased my mind, I almost started feeling like I'm being selfish for having the surgery, some people tell me, "you're not "BIG ENOUGH" to have WLS", and I hate that, but they have no idea of the OTHER things I have going on, so I just say, "I carry it well",and keep moving.

I am scheduled for surgery next Thursday, May 8th (NERVOUS WRECK), and am now in the pre-op diet phase; I have two questions:
    1. Did anyone just start to not feel hungry after being on the pre-op diet for a few days, like seven or so?
    2. Has anyone gone into surgery under 200lbs? I'm not there yet, but fast-approaching; I started out at 233lbs and a BMI of over 40 with comorbities (HBP, Migraines, sleep Apnea, Water retention, gerd, etc.), I'm now down to 208.7, uhhh is this normal?
Thanks everyone for your responses! I've been on this site for a short while now, and, have mostly been reading different threads and posts, and, with my surgery date fast-approaching, I realize now, that we all need each other for this support!
    Feel free to friend me!

I am loving this! I didn't think there were many of us here, OR who have been sleeved. I am scheduled for my surgery next week (May 8th), and I too am worried about Hair loss, since my hair is extremely fragile to begin with; I'm getting it braided right before surgery, to be safe, but I also wear wigs everyday of my life, they're more like accessories now, so if it thins out, oh well, I've been there, done that!
Everyone, would you please friend me, although I have my hubby, my daughter, and a couple of coworkers for support, NOTHING beats having people to talk to, who have been there!
I'll be joining you on the losers bench soon! Wish me luck, and send up prayers!

I'm pre-op. I live in Chillicothe, but will be getting sleeved at Mt. Carmel West in Columbus.
I have my first nutrition class on Monday and the last at the end of this month. My psych eval is mid-May. Those were the only clearances I need, then off to insurance, which they said can be 2-8 weeks for approval. :-/ I'm hoping to have surgery before August because I'm a retail manager and my workload significantly increases in September.
    Best of luck!

Hello, I'm new to the forum...
I've been doing research on lap band & then I decided that the sleeve is the better option for me... I know my insurance will not cover the procedure, so I'm exploring going to Mexico. I've already contacted Dr. Aceves (sp?) and got some information. I know I'll have to cut back and save money but I know it will be worth it. I can't continue to be unhealthy anymore..... To those of you that have been sleeved, Where did you have your procedure done? Any complications? How did your family & friends react? How are you dealing with the lifestyle changes???

I cant offer any sound advice to people during their pre op diet, but I wanted to drop a line to everyone who is currently on their pre op diet to say "I FEEL YOUR PAIN!" I always thought I would have enough will to do this damn liquid diet, but baby I am here to tell ya this is soooo hard! I am only on day 2 and I feel like climbing the walls. I have a family that I have to cook for everyday and I swear it takes everything in me not to give in (AND AGAIN THIS IS ONLY DAY 2). I pray it gets easier!
I want everyone to know I am pulling for you and sending you best wishes!

Hello everyone, I am new to this site, but I've been on and off this journey for a while! I've been trying to get bariatric surgery for a while (about 5-6 years), but there was always a problem or just no real support in helping me get to the next step in the process. I've been with my current surgeon since December 2013, and it has been great! I went through the supervised diet portion for insurance, and dropped about 12lbs, I just got my date (May 8th) this past Thursday, and I'm super excited, but super nervous too! I have my nutrition class on April 24th, so things are moving fast! I would love to have some friends for support and advice, so feel free to friend me! Also, whatever you can offer by way of tips and things to get through post-op, I would welcome! Thanks everyone and good luck to us all!

CrisH64 reacted to GastricSleevePatient in How do I know if I can do this?
You CAN do it. You looked into the surgery and you've done everything you've needed to get a surgery date, which means it was something you wanted.
I know the feeling though. I felt like I would somehow fail at this surgery (a surgery that is basically guaranteed to help you lose weight) as I have with other diets. Or, I believed I would somehow ruin my post-op diet.
After surgery you'll feel different. Obviously, you'll be the same weight, but those cravings will be gone. My doctor kept reassuring me of this, and I didn't truly believe him until after the surgery. You think you'll miss those trips to your favorite fast food restaurant, or midnight Snacks, but I promise you, you won't even think about them. Don't think of those "last meals" as "last meals." Granted the next couple months after eating will feel like a chore, you'll be able to eat them again some day, but a much smaller amount, and probably in a healthier version.
Don't be nervous! Your life is going to change, and for the better.
