Tubbynomo got a reaction from Chelenka in I've never been a fan of photos
I've never liked my pic taken and I still don't but I admit I mind it less now. A friend sent me these today so I thought I'd share. I also don't like to talk about my success, in any area of my life. Some how I feel bad for those that are not as fortunate as me even though I know I am where I'm am because of sound choices and hard work. Anyway, here's a before and after.
I'm four months out on the 23rd and have lost a total of 90lbs with no complications. I still get most of my Protein from whey but I can eat anything without issues as long as I chew chew chew. The other day I forgot that and I paid for it. Good luck everyone.

It fades, just give it a 4-6 weeks. Sometimes it comes back. The worst was my wife's breath or anyone's breath for that matter. One week out I was in an elevator with about six other people it was awful.

I smoke cigars and have since five days after surgery. I've had no issues and my Dr. Knows. I don't drink and since going out to eat is not nearly as satisfying, it's what I have left.

Hang in there crysclev, It has gotten better for me. I think it may be a matter of reconditioning your stomach. I kept going back and now I can tolerate it better. Now the only void is that I can't eat as much as I want to.

Monitor your bp. I'm 7.5 weeks out and already off my meds. I stopped the last 5mg myself for the same reason. My bp was 115/73 on 5mg lisinopril and I kept getting dizzy upon standing. Without the meds I'm fine.

Tubbynomo got a reaction from elfnow in Leaks anyone? Symptoms?
I was told by the surgeon that if you have a leak it will be quite obvious. High fever and evidence of infection. I thought the same thing right after surgery because of a lot of discomfort where I imagined a leak would be. It was due to trapped gas left behind from surgery. It took about a week to subside.

Tubbynomo got a reaction from Iambeautiful in My surgery was NO picnic and this is NOT the easy way out....
I had surgery on 2/25. I also had a lot of discomfort from the gas they use to expand the abdominal cavity. It seemed to take about a week to finally be absorbed and stop bothering me. For Protein, I bought platinum Hydro whey. Look into it. It's super easy absorbing 30gr per serving and taste ok. I'm having a hard time getting my protein any other way. Love the sugar free Popsicles. I think I'm down 25-30 lbs. from the 25th.

Tubbynomo reacted to MizNola in Sleeve Myths
Boy, I needed to read this today. I am two weeks out of surgery and having stress over not having enough restriction in my sleeve. Granted, I'm still on full liquids, but I can consume more than I expected and it doesn't bother me. I thought the sleeve would be like a steel door that shut after you consumed a few ounces or their would be Grimm consequences. I don't have that. It's really shined a light on the fact that I'm a food addict. I want to keep eating or eat something I shouldn't. Realize I still have to use the same willpower that I failed to harness for the last twenty years. Feeling afraid that I could fail and I never even thought that was a possibility. I have lost 12 pounds since surgery; guess that's ok, but really nervous and depressed. Any of you vets go through this?

A good list, and I guess my comments are more clarifying rather than disagreeing.
On the topic of exercise - you are right that plenty of people lose just fine without it. I think that you will be a little sad though to find when you get to goal that you have lost so much muscle mass that you can eat so little in maintenance. Exercise does not really cause you to lose weight so much as it increases your fitness/ups your metabolism/preserves lean muscle to make life time maintenance more realistic.
Most of us DON'T NEED plastic surgery. In my case, even after losing 160# I didn't have skin rash or any medical need for plastics. Heck, Spanx or other decent Shapewear kept things together for me just fine. I wanted plastics because it was important to me to look "normal". I truly believe that it will help me with the mental/emotional aspects of long term maintenance. Plastics were really really hard but I am glad I did it. I would also say that people at the beginning of their journey shouldn't even think about all this. As time went on, i got more and more comfortable with the excess skin and if I had not been able to do plastics - I would have been okay with that too.
The honeymoon period is real... but it is debatable how long it lasts. I lost about 100# my first 6 months. Took me another 8 months to lose the next 50 - so it took me 14 months to lose 150# to goal. I stabilized and maintained that 150# loss before I decided to lose 10 more. I was well over 18 months out and it wasn't that hard to lose those 10. It is very true though that the fastest weight loss/least hunger occurs in those early months so TAKE ADVANTAGE. It also means that you shouldn't give up just because you are more than 6-12 months out - it is still possible!
As far as eating - eating the right things is so important, but so is Portion Control. The idea is to learn to eat to absence of hunger, not until full. That was a foreign concept to me, but has really paid off! I still after all this time, eat off smaller plates and use appetizer sized utinsils at home.
One thing you don't mention is the head trip that this whole journey is for many of us. Some get depression, some find their whole worlds turned upside down.... others maybe a smaller impact. Be prepared for major ups and downs though. As that fat sheds, hormones are released which can cause mood swings. You may find that friends and family get tired of hearing about your weight loss, you may find many things out about your relationships during this journey. Don't make big decisions if you can avoid it if you are going through that wild emotional ride.
Mostly... keep your eye on the prize - life at a healthier weight, enjoying doing things you could only dream of when obese. It is so worth it!
