    Cigars

I'm fifteen months out now and smoke everyday. No ill affects. I eat and drink whatever I want. Obviously, in much smaller quantities. I lost 100+lbs in the first 6-7 months, reached my goal and have held it with little effort. I work 12 hour shifts in a very sedentary job so I have to be careful not to "graze" but other than that, I couldn't have asked for more. I say, smoke and be happy. The Dr. Will always tell you not to and even suggest the potential for complications.

I've never been a fan of photos

Thanks, I do feel fantastic. I ran up 6 flights of stairs without stopping the other day. It's like I'm in disguise no one recognizes me.
  3. I've never liked my pic taken and I still don't but I admit I mind it less now. A friend sent me these today so I thought I'd share. I also don't like to talk about my success, in any area of my life. Some how I feel bad for those that are not as fortunate as me even though I know I am where I'm am because of sound choices and hard work. Anyway, here's a before and after. I'm four months out on the 23rd and have lost a total of 90lbs with no complications. I still get most of my protein from whey but I can eat anything without issues as long as I chew chew chew. The other day I forgot that and I paid for it. Good luck everyone.
  4. Food for me is an addiction. Surgery was like going to jail. This is exactly how my first bout with addiction went. Let me elaborate. I was addicted to hard drugs for about ten years. I wanted to quit, I just couldn't. I knew my life was at stake but I failed every time I tried to stop. Then I got arrested. The time in jail saved my life. It afforded me the opportunity to get through the withdrawal and start thinking clearly. If I hadn't been in jail I would have used for sure. When I got out I knew I didn't want to squander that opportunity, I was scared I'd never get another, so I never used drugs again. Then it food became my addiction. WLS gave me the opportunity to break free from this current addiction but not with out putting in the same kind of work. Support groups, talking to those that love and support me in my journey, and always being vigilant when the feelings of relapse popped into my head. This is also what has kept me from reverting g back to old eating habits. Find support, make new routines, new hobbies and always remember the fat you is always waiting to come back if you drop your guard for even a minute.

    Breath/ funky taste

It fades, just give it a 4-6 weeks. Sometimes it comes back. The worst was my wife's breath or anyone's breath for that matter. One week out I was in an elevator with about six other people it was awful.

Snacks for those craving a "crunch"

I've been eating a couple handfuls of corn nuts.

    Fluids

As long as you feel ok and your urine isn't the color of apple juice you should be fine. My output is considerably less then when I was pre-op.

    help

Relax. I wasn't hungry at all for the first month. I survived on platinum hydro whey powder. It's thinner than the premixed shakes and goes down a lot easier. It allowed me to get my protein when I couldn't tolerate solids. I still drink one or two a day and I'm almost 3 months out. The dr said as long as I eat something to keep my stomach working it was fine to get most of my protein that way. For now anyway. I can eat solids I'm just never hungry except at night. I does get better, don't let your head fuck with you. You just need more time.

    Does anyone know. ..

Depends on the food and I suspect, whether you are on a PPI or not. Otherwise I imagine it's not much different. You still have acid and the smaller amount is proportional to stomach volume.

5 wks out and stll in stall!

Try a hydrolyzed whey. It's super easy going down and is absorbed by the body really fast. I use platinum hydro whey. You can mix it with water and it stays thin even with milk it's thin and you get ten more grams op P. I found it to be more agreeable than those thick pre mixed shakes like premier or pure protein.

    Smoking / Drinking

I smoke cigars and have since five days after surgery. I've had no issues and my Dr. Knows. I don't drink and since going out to eat is not nearly as satisfying, it's what I have left.

What does your Dr. Say?? That seems to defy every law of the human body. What is your estimated caloric intake per day?? Were all your other functions normal? i. e. Thyroid. You must be consuming way less than pre-op. I can't even wrap my head around that.

    pre op slip up

After my pre-op I didn't see the dr again until right before they knocked me out. At they point they're not gonna cancel the surgery. I had even put on several pounds. I doubt the surgeon even checked my weight. He had like four procedures that day.

    Cigars

I smoked up until the day before surgery and started back up a week after. I tried to smoke on the ride home from the hospital but my sense of smell and taste were all screwed up. Everything tasted like shit and my sense of smell was on overdrive. All my senses are back to normal and I'm back to smoking 2 stogies a day. I've had zero issues. I'm two months out and have lost a total of 70lbs. I also had my lung capacity tested at work and compared to 4 years ago (before I started smoking) and its actually improved by a couple of %. Go figure.

    pre op slip up

Shit, I went on a food bender the weekend before my surgery. I felt like I was heading to rehab and wanted to get high one last time. I'm not recommending this, just letting you know that I suffered no ill effects and the surgeon never knew.
