  1. Can anyone recommend a good bra? I have one style from Fredericks that I have fell in love with. My problem is I have a B cup now (down from a C) and I have what I call "bat wings" under my arms (the side of my breasts) they seem to come out the top of whatever bra I have if the bands on the side aren't wide enough. I have tried Victoria Secret's Gel Pushup bra and it's okay, but the girls need help. :help: Thanks Ladies
  2. Do exercise goals. I want to someday take a kick boxing class. I am considering signing up for a boot camp class taught by an ex-marine in January. Another thing you may try is to buy a pair of pants that are many sizes too small and work to get into them. Continue to do that and before you know it you will be at your goal. Best of luck to ya. I think the mental aspect is 98% of what it takes to lose the weight with the band.
  3. It's probably the coldness that's getting you. The cold makes your stomach/band contract and tighten. I can't eat yogurt because it takes so long to warm up in my tummy, I hate the feeling. Ice cream goes down really good for me though. Go figure!
  4. Welcome to the forum. All of us have had our doubts. In time of weakness I have always gone to the before and after pages and looked at the results of others. The best piece of advice I can give you is not to concentrate on your weight. I know that sounds weird, but I always counted success by what I can do. Make a list of things you want to do and mark them off one by one. It's a great goal setter and something to look back at when times get rough. One thing I have pointed out many times is don't be surprised if you are going through a slight depression from the decrease in calories. Pre-op jitters are normal, I wanted to bail before my surgery, I'm actually surprised I went through with it. Best of luck to ya!
  5. My surgeon says no carbonation. That being said, I've never really given up sodas. I finally quit after my last fill, but it was because I didn't like having the farts, I mean the gas has to go somewhere and when you are in a room with a patient there are only 2 ppl to blame and when the patient knows it wasn't him, that makes for an aweward situation. :girl_hug: My new addiction... diet lemonade..
  6. Congrats on the banding and welcome! As far as wanting this or that, give yourself time to heal and go for it. I'm not talking a super-sized order of fries, but if you want one or two here or there that's not a problem. As overweight people we don't know what a portion is. What always worked for me was getting just enough to enjoy the flavor on a napkin and throwing (or giving) the rest away. I still eat a bite or two of whatever I crave, but being almost a year and half out I know what will make me suffer and I avoid it. A hamburger with bread means pain to me and it's not worth it to me. Best of luck to you with your new band.
  7. I'd ask your doctor before taking multiple Aleve or any NSAIDS. I'll take a dose here and there for my back, but not back to back. Best of luck to ya.
  8. Yeah that's how it works for hubby and me.
  9. I know that typically liquid in = liquid out. But I never heard of anyone having it that bad after banding. You should contact your doctor.
  10. Here is my 2 year old. I think the turkey knocked her out. Happy Thankgiving Everyone!
  11. It's definatly and adjustment thing. You have to mentally come to terms with not eating so much. I have yet to give anything up. I can have a bite or two of just about anything, I just have to remind myself where to stop. One thing that people don't realize often is the fact that when you decrease your calorie intake it's quite common to go through a depression phase. So give it time.
  12. Hope ya'll make friends again soon. I know what it's like not to like you band sometimes.
  13. I didn't either. Best of luck to ya.
  14. I still have a lot of respect for Dr. Powell. I would recommend him to anyone. We got our misunderstandings worked out and all is well.
  15. I didn't have my port replacement on Thursday. I have decided to wait on that as I am not ready for another surgery at the moment. I did get fill that almost brought me up to where I was before. My doctor and I had a heart to heart about his staff so hopefully things will get better there, he acknowledged there was a problem and I'm good with it. He wants me down to 150 as my final weigh. I am only 4lbs heavier now than my lowest weight and I stopped drinking the higher calorie sodas and lemonade (I love the lemonade) so hopefully things will start going the right direction soon. Thanks everyone for your help and thoughts.
  16. I was over 300lbs when I got pregnant with my daughter. I was not banded at the time so I can't tell you what a "banded pregnancy" would be like. I can tell you just because you are overweight does not automatically mean a bad pregnancy. I found http://www.plus-size-pregnancy.org/ to be a very helpful website. Best of luck to you!
  17. I was 5'6" and 300lbs when I was banded a year ago. The first step toward any problem is to focus on what is important. We all know what being obese is a problem, obesity kills. No, I don't think anyone should be pushed into a surgery, but you need to be realistic as to the risks you take staying obese versus having surgery. Personally I looked at the chance I would lose 150lbs on my own and keep it off long term. I knew the chances were zero and that I had to do something drastic to insure I would see my daughter grow up and be an active parent she deserves. It's a personal choice. Think about it and do what's right for YOU. Best wishes,
  18. Welcome back Sister!! You are definately taking the right steps to get back on the train. Please don't be so down on yourself as you are human and many of us suffer from a disease called obesity and depression. Focus on feeling better, becoming more active rather than the weight loss, I find it's a better motivator than anything else. And know you are going to have times when you want something. A bowl of ice cream every once in a while is not a problem, you just have to know when to call it quits. Remember we are here for you and you CAN do it! (((((HUGS))))))
  19. I had a good one happen today. As most know I've had a slight unfill while awaiting the install of my new port (I feel like a computer waiting for a spare part or something). Anyways, I decide I want to try out a BBQ place. I figure the sauce would lube just about anything down and I shouldn't have a problem. Well.... I start to slime in the resturant, apparently the ribs were a little too tough and dry for me to eat even with the sauce. We go to the mall and I decide that I can handle it. We get into Sears and I need to find a restroom as I am sliming horribly. The first one I go to is locked, they are remodeling it. We go up to the second floor, I am making all these scary noises like some demon from a horror movie trying to not slime on the floor in the middle of Sears. I finally find a restroom and there are people in it. I think to myself I have to do something, I can do this quietly. I swing open the first unlocked door and go as I bent 1/2 way down toward the toilet ready to rid myself of my misery I realize there is a small child sitting in there. I had to stop and go WAIT for someone to come out of another stall. The child's mother looked at me like I was insane, but she should have taught her to lock the freaking door. I seriously don't know who's eyes got bigger with that one, me or the kid.
  20. Yeah we had that problem, thankfully hubby is also banded and the 2 year old eats enough to share a typical resturant meal 3 ways.. :hungry: We call it the mini-buffet.
  21. I haven't read all the responses, but working in the medical field I don't know how they could get away with that. Needles get dull after they are used, when we give medications to people we change the needle after the drug is drawn to lessen the pain to the patient. I don't think reuse even on your own needle is a good idea.
  22. Welcome to the board. I had this surgery for my daughter. I never focused on losing X number of pounds. I simply wanted to be able to be a more active parent. I started this journey at 297 and I am the same height as you. I would definately let your surgeon know about the other problems you have. The pain you suffer from your knees and joints can definately be caused by weight. Lossing weight will also help with the depression. My husband and I have both had this surgery. Our daughter just turned 2 and I am able to chase her around and keep up with her the best you can with a toddler. Best of luck to you.
  23. your banded is when sodas actually expire because nobody drinks them. I just threw out four 2 liters of soda. I never knew it expired. hehehe
  24. Confusion over my port replacement. I was told I would be having a surgery under local simply to replacement my port. Now they wanted to do exploratory surgery under general. Nobody informed me of the change. I am very displeased with his office staff. I pray we can get things straightend out, he is a great surgeon, but his office is falling apart.
  25. He called me and I am giving him a chance to fix the problem now that I have personally talked to him.
