Dental Work??
That's exactly what they told me. I didn't remember reading it on this forum and figured if it was common practice that someone would have mentioned it. My dentist's office wasn't real familiar with the procedure, but once they found out my port was similiar if not the same as a chemo port used in cancer patients they informed the doctor and I was given oral antibiotics. Thanks everyone!

Dental Work??

I went and had my teeth cleaned today. The dentist made me take 2,000mg of Amoxicillin as a precaution before they would start cleaning my teeth because I am banded. Anyone else hear of this?

First emotional breakdown today...
It will be okay. We all go through this especially when we are on liquids and think we will never eat normal again. I've had 2 fills and I'm getting ready for another after the first of the year. I have noticed that my band makes me eat healtier and behave. I can pretty much eat whatever I am craving, but just a bite or two and then I get rid of it (throw it away or give it to someone else), just enough to say I had some and tasted it. You learn to move on and focus on other things. I know what foods will make me sick and associate vomitting with them, it really helps. LOL ((((((HUGS)))))) and best wishes!

My goofy dream...
My hubby has been in India for the past 3 weeks. I have spent a majority of the time at my mom's house. She has a very hard bed that I've been sleeping on. I am a major tummy sleeper and apparently at some point in the middle of the night I found my port (slight discomfort) and started dreaming about it. I dreamed that my port had moved southward into my left leg and my doctor had to open my port incision back up pull the port by the tube, cut off the remainder and close me back up. It didn't hurt but sure was funny to watch (in my dream) It reminded me of the tubing that you cut for a fish tank bubbles. It's interesting the kind of stuff your brain comes up with when you are asleep. Thankfully I am now back at home in my nice comfy bed and my sweet hubby is coming home today!!

How did you feel immediately after surgery?
I don't know why, but immediately after surgery (when I woke up) I was in EXTREME pain. Apparently they didn't push anything into my IV before I woke up because I felt like I had been stabbed. They gave me some pain meds in my IV and it went away quickly. They sent me home with liquid Lortab with a refill. I love that stuff, if I was to get addicted to anything that would be my choice..lol I didn't have gas pain, my main complaint was not being able to sleep on my tummy for a few weeks, I am a major tummy sleeper.

Something interesting - antidepressants
Yeah it is interesting. I've had a lot of stuff hitting me all at once in the past month or so and I thought it was just stress and my PPD flaring up. I have an appt tomorrow with my shrink. I am going to mention to her the fact that Lexapro seems to be not helping a lot of people, I'm sure she will dismiss it because she doesn't know all the information about the people involved, you know how doctors are...lol The only side effect I have with Lexapro is no interest in sex. I am scared to move onto something else and experience something worse or have horrible withdrawals once I get off of them. I have a 14 month old I have to do something. I haven't been a happy mommy lately and she deserves to have a mommy that is happy and cheerful.

Waiting for a fill..
Is anyone else waiting until after the first of the year for a fill? I know I need one, but I want to be able to eat a little bit during the holidays. I'm just curious if I am the only bad one?

PB'ing Like Crazy
I agree, it's time for an unfill. If you don't take care of this you face possibly losing your band!

Poll
I was never a big drinker while I ate. I do however drink a bit here and there with my meals, but just enough to keep my mouth lubed. I know it's a no-no, but I don't have a problem with being hungry until 3-4 hours after a meal and I'm losing weight well, so I don't care.

Yay! I'm Obese
I'm now obese not super obese according to my BMI.

Poll: would you do it over again?
I'm very pleased with my band. Some of the stuff people go through on this site does frighten me, but Gastric Bypass is not something I want and I HAD to try Lap Band before I did something as drastic as GB.

antidepressants/psych meds?
I'm on Lexapro 20mg. I started at 10mg right after my daughter was born for postpartum depression and major anxiety and it worked for about 6 months, then the depression seeped through. My shrink told me that after 20mg she likes to go to something else because the increased dosage really doesn't help. It's now 6 months later (since the increase) and it's not working anymore. It has helped a lot with my anxiety, but my depression is coming back. I go Monday and I bet she changes me to a different happy pill.

Pregnancy after Surgery..
LOL I am interested in Essure. It's done w/o surgery. My hubby isn't exactly supportive of me not wanting more kids so no vasectomy.

Pregnancy after Surgery..
Thanks, I spoke with his nurse and she said that he would have no problem speaking with me and they could get me in probably next week that their system as down. I spoke with one of the doctors that took the place of the doctor who moved and he wanted me to wait until I was over 30. I'll keep you posted.

Pregnancy after Surgery..
I need some opinions here... I am almost 28, married and have a 14 month old daughter. I have been overweight my entire life (from the time I was 8 or so). I was over 300lbs when I got pregnant. I have lost right at 50lbs in a little over 4 months. I am scared to death of becoming pregnant again. I know that fertility often increases as our weight decreases. I have been on the pill since about 6 weeks postpartum and was on it a long time before that. I had a horrible time with postpartum depression starting before I even left the hospital I have sought treatment and continue to be on antidepressants that I am unable to get off of because of withdrawal symptoms. I will spare the details of my PPD, but it was horrible and I never want to go through it again. I asked my ob/gyn (same person who delivered DD) to tie my tubes at 6 weeks postpartum and again 7 months later at my annual exam. She told me to wait 6 months and we can discuss then, she only offered me the IUD (which I don't want) or another prescription for the pill. Its been over 6 months and that doctor has moved out of state. My question is 2 folds. Does anyone know an OB/GYN in the DFW area that will listen to me about MY wishes instead of looking at the fact I am 28, with 1 kid and a history of PPD?? Has anyone gotten pregnant on the pill after having Lap Band and losing weight?? Thanks!

Emotional Before Banding
This is completely normal. I went from April (my initial visit w/surgeon) until August (when I had my surgery) with a severe case of "last supper syndrome". I gained weight. You have to mourn food, but in the end you have to know that the food you are mouring is like an old friend who did you wrong, because of that food I was 300lbs. When one door closes another opens. Best luck to you!

Does It Ever Sneak Up On You?
I'm just now beginning to learn and I've been banded for 4 months. I eat what I want until I am comfortable and literally throw the rest away so that I don't go overboard.

What about a get together in Shreveport
I personally like the Horseshoe because it is cleaner, I hate cigarette smoke.
-
To fill or unfill?
Personally I think you are too tight. This was discussed in another thread (see trouble sleeping thread) and the person there is also too tight. I would call my surgeon and be honest with them about the symptoms I am having and get their recommendations. Best of luck to ya!

please pray!
Sorry to hear about your brother, I will keep him and your family in my thoughts. (((((HUGS))))

Unfill
I agree with bubbamee20022003. At least you didn't gain weight! Take it easy and continue your journey.

Sleeping Troubles
Sounds like we were banded around the same time. I personally would talk to my doctor and see what his/her opinion is. Good luck!

Sleeping Troubles
Sounds like it could be reflux. How long have you been banded?
