Even though my surgery was only 3 months ago. I feel like my journey really started 5 years ago. I was struggling with an anxiety, depression, and most of all ADD but I'd always been too scared to ask for help. 5 years ago I finally did. I got put on medicine to cope with my ADD and that helped relieve the anxiety too. It also helped me start loosing weight. I lost 20ish lbs from the medicine in the first year and eventually started trying to diet and exercise. I don't know what my weight was at that first doctors appointment. I could never face it, but at 22, I was already having health issues and was put on BP meds. I do know, several years later after I had been dieting, I hit 299 on the scale at my doctors office and she was impressed because she said "you've lost almost 40lbs." I was horrified and happy. I thought I'd lost 20lbs from the medicine, gained some back, and then lost 20lbs from dieting. I'm glad I never had to confront that number while I was at that weight.
So, I honestly don't know exactly what my high weight was, but I know it was near 340. I have it listed as 320 on here because that's what it was when I finally started trying to get in shape. This is something to this day I haven't told anyone. Not even my BFF who had surgery knows what it was. But I'm telling you guys now because today when I woke up the scale said 237, which means I've officially lost about 100lbs! I'm embarrassed and elated. It's a weird goal to have. So in other threads and with other people I'll probably still note my weight loss from my presurgery/preop diet weight but I wanted to take a minute to mark this bittersweet milestone.
For those of you just starting your journey, I hope you know it's hard as hell but it will be so worth it if it takes 5 months or 5 years.

This is a great thread. It's awesome to have goals like this going in and you'll all be surprised how fast you get there.
I'm 3.5 months out and 70lbs down and I've already been able to check a lot of these off my list. I take way more selfies now and don't obsess over every picture of myself. I found a bathing suit I like! I've been going to the gym 4-5 times a week with out embarrassment and shopping in more regular stores. (That one is harder than I thought it would be, I feel lost outside of the plus size section.) And last night I bought my first ever pair of shorts that don't come all the way down to my knees! I'm going to six flags tomorrow and I'm still a little nervous about fitting on everything, but I think I'll be fine. Oh yeah, and sex is better.
Congrats to all of you who are getting your surgery soon. It's going to be a difficult journey, but it will be worth it even sooner than you know.

My husband and I go to a lot of concerts. I have been so excited about us being about to buy one tshirt and both wear it. Well, what does he do? He lost 10lbs after my surgery and went down a tshirt size to a small. Maybe I'll get there one day.

Wallflower7522 got a reaction from BryBro63 in How did you first learn about weight loss surgery?
I work for a large company that has very good insurance and tends to bring in a lot of younger people. I probably knew about surgery before I worked here but never thought about it. I started here when I was 19. I'm 27 now, just had my surgery a few months ago. Since we have such good health and disability insurance the surgery is really accessible and common with my coworkers. I can think of at least a dozen people that I actually know have had some form of WLS in the time I've worked here, including 4 of my good friends. I know two more that are in the process. I'm sure there are tons more but those are just the ones I know personally. I feel pretty luckily actually to have so many examples of what to do and a few examples of what not to do. And to also have such awesome disability insurance.

    My surgery was about $550.
If you're having heart palpations I would contact your doctor. With that being said, I had them too after surgery. My mom, who is an RN, checked me out and I was ok. She said that when you move around after surgery you're rearranged insides can put pressure on your vegus nerve which can drop your change your heart rate. Please contact your doctor and still get checked out though.

I had the binder but didn't use it that much once I came home. It was uncomfortable when it pushed into my boobs.
I'd recommend a body pillow. It helps to hold it against you when you get up and down. I think it is doable to do it on your own. It was nice to have someone there but I could get up and down on my own when I had to.

Everyone looks so great! This thread is such an inspiration. I went to a party Saturday with people I hadn't seen since well before my surgery March. I got a lot of comments on my weight. It was almost too much but I know people have good intentions but I still have so far to go and I didn't think it was that big of a difference. I looked back through some of my old picture last night and realized I really could tell a huge difference. Here's is my up today before and after pic. I'm so glad I took this step now. I've been going to the gym almost everyday and I feel so much better.
From about 305 to 250. Size 3x/24 to an XL 16/18.

There may be other threads like this, but I thought I'd start a new one here, so everyone could contribute no matter which surgery you had. One of my big inspirations is looking at everyone's before and after pics. I've spent hours on Instagram looking at people's pics so. I thought others might feel inspired too so if you feel comfortable share your before and after pictures here.
I'm only 7 weeks out (RNY) but I'll start. My BFF had surgery a year ago. We went to the zoo two years ago and when we went back this weekend we thought it would be fun to find the picture we took then and take similar ones now. I was at my high weight then, and at my current weight in the 2nd pic. I still have a long way to go obviously, but I was pretty happy with the difference so far.

At one point in my life I used to have a headache every single day and Migraines once or twice a month, sometimes more frequently. Not eating has always been a trigger for me, and I was worried about that too. Honestly it didn't bother me after the first few days. I took Tylenol the first week I was on my preop liquid diet and that helped.
I've had 3 surgeries in an effort to end my frequent headache and migraines. Two rounds of Lasik/PRK to fix my screwed up vision and now my RNY. I'm at 2 months now and I've only had one Migraine and almost no regular headaches.

You know what, don't worry about what everyone else says and thinks. You do you. I thought about this surgery when I was 20 and I was too scared. I thought about it for years and finally decided when I was 26 and didn't actually get my surgery until this year when I'm 27. I wasted most of my 20s being overweight. I was active, but I could have done so much more. My husband ran a 5k today and I don't know if I'll ever be able to catch up with him. My only regret is not doing it sooner.
Yes, you made a major life decision very early in life, but you did what was best for you. Be happy about that. You'll find support and love here and with your friends and family in time. And if it's your friends that are saying this stuff, find some new ones. I wish you all the best dear, don't let the jerks get you down.

Here is a big NSV for me, my little garden. I'm going to eat healthy and grow some of what I eat. I don't think I would have ever had the energy or motivation to do this last year. It's small, but I tilled it all by hand so it was a lot of work. I'm not done with it yet, but I've so happy with what I've got done so far.
