During your stay in the hospital you will be poked and prodded so much, that the little things like that will barely be noticeable. Plus, you will be doped up on pain medications so that will make everything much more tolerable. The biggest thing I can recommend in the hospital is to stay on top of your pain medications. Find out how long they are supposed to last and let your nurse know half an hour before they are due. Usually injections last 2 hours and oral liquids last 4. I work in a hospital and know that if they are out of stock of a particular medication on the floor it can take some time to come up. That is why I was always trying to give my nurse a heads up in advance. Be polite though. They sometimes get distracted with everyone and everything they have going on and can forget. It is your job to gently remind them.
Coming off of pain medication is a lot like falling off a cliff. Once you start to go down, you do down fast and it is hard and takes time to climb back up. That is why I suggest staying on top of it all.

I have to admit I am really looking forward to this Thanksgiving. My surgery is December 19th and I will be on my liquid diet for Christmas, so this is my last "big" meal with family. I should start my preop diet on 12/5. Good luck to you and Happy Thanksgiving!

Just a reminder that the Bypass is not a guarantee that you won't be able to eat sweets anymore. It will help your blood sugars almost immediately. The dumping though is only true for about half of the people. That said you can still get dumping with the sleeve too. I did.
The proper eating comes from a strong mind, nothing else. Whatever you choose, you're going to have to put all your willpower into it. 100%

You are all making valid points, and the fact that I feel sugar is my huge downfall I believe I am going to end up with the bypass. I crave buttercream icing... sad, I know. I need the curbing factor too.

Jelko7t3 got a reaction from Megan00 in anyone getting sleeved in DECEMBER?
@@Megan00 - I am considering switching for multiple reasons including my comorbidities and the need for the increased speed of weight loss. I am also scared that since the sleeve doesn't really put any restrictions on WHAT you can eat after surgery I am going to fall back into old habits. Long story, but I have a call in to the doctor to get his opinion.

Jelko7t3 got a reaction from Essence33 in Literally just started the process...
I am a 40 year old wife and mother weighing 294 with a BMI of 48.9. I have several comorbidities including diabetes and high blood pressure. I have Anthem BCBS insurance and my oop seems to be about $1100 not including copays for all of the visits.
So, I just found out about the VSG option about 3 months ago when a friend from high school had one done. I had thought about RNY but talked myself out of it several times due to number of complications. My husband, his mother and father have all had the RNY and it was successful, yet I was hesitant.
In researching the Sleeve, I feel confident that this is the way I want to go. I have chosen the program I want to go through, I have a case number assigned with my insurance, I have met with my general practitioner to talk to him about my decision. I just sent in the evaluation appointment request forms today, so now I wait to hear from the Bariatric Program.
I am nervous and excited all at the same time. I don't like subjecting myself to surgery, but I feel this is exactly the tool I need to better my life. I haven't told many people as of right now, simply because I know how most people around me feel about WLS and I don't need the tension.
I have been lurking on the boards for about a week and I thought it was about time I posted something. I look forward to getting to know all of you and thank you in advance for the multitude of questions you will answer as I work through this process.
