Just got banded
My name is Marieze and I am due to be banded on Wed. Feb. 13th. I've really looking forward to it, but just today I was thinking about the possibility of dying on the table and I completely freaked out! Can you share some of the details with me? For instance, how long did your surgery last? How long till you got up and walked? Are you incredibly sore? When are you going back to work, assuming that you do? Any suggestions you may have are appreciated.....I'll check back. Best of luck to you David! Marieze

Post Op Clear Liquids How can you heal?
I haven't been banded yet (Feb. 13th) and feel badly that you really need more nourishment...what if you added some Protein powder (whey) to your broth....maybe you'd feel fuller and more content. Good Luck...let us know what happens. Nut. sounds like a ditz. Marieze

Stocking Up-What do you think I should buy~2 weeks pre-op?
My surgery is Feb. 13th. I know there are lists somewhere of what people recommed, I just couldn't find them. What do you recommend I buy to keep myself comfortable and satisfied? So far I've bought: 3 extra pillows A new digital scale A new shower massager with a long hose thing A heat pack that goes around the shoulder that you microwave (shoulder pain) Campbells chunky Soups to be pureed Plan on buying: Gas X liquid Tylenol (having trouble finding this) So what else? Thanks! Marieze

Two Days Post Op
I go in on Feb. 13th. Don't apologize for a long post; for those of us with surgery just around the corner, it's great to read the post surgery posts. How long do you expect the bloating to last...that's just one thing I'm going to hate! Keep us posted! Marieze

I was approved yesterday!!!! Timeline.....
Now the reality is settling in and I'm becoming more anxious than when I was just anticipating the approval!!! I attended the seminar for Dr. Emma Patterson here in Portland, Oregon on Tuesday, August 21st. I sent in the paperwork the next day. Thursday, Sept. 29th the office confirmed they had my paperwork. October 18th was my first 1/2 day of testing (lab and 2 hour long written psyche. exam). October 23rd was my second 1/2 day of testing (nutritionist, psychologist, nurse practionier etc.) Then nothing until I met with the surgeon herself right after Xmas on Dec. 27th. They let me schedule my surgery, tentatively, based on approval from United Healthcare. I told them I needed my son home to help me a little and he would be off 5 days at that time. So now it's a go for Feb. 13th! I have United Healthcare's EPO program and they are paying the surgery at 90%. Thank God or I otherwise would not be able to afford it. I am extremely fortunate and I know it. I just thought I would share the good news!!! Marieze

What would you do if you weren't "big"?
Get up off the couch without feeling I have to "hoist" myself up Be able to stand for longer than a few minutes (knees and back problems) Stairs without needing cpr Taking walks with my son Camping with my son Basketball with my son Climbing into the bleachers to watch my son play basketball Having the seat belt in my car fit appropriately instead across my neck Sitting comfortably in a booth at a restaurant instead of a table w/chairs Being in the picture WITH my son instead of taking the pix Having more energy to do my job Wearing clothes that I actually want to wear vs. what will fit and hide my body Not having to depend on my son to do things around the house for me Eating normal portion sizes and feeling normal about it Re-joining curves Being able to fly and fit in a seat comfortably Going to any event and being able to sit in the seat comfortably Being able to sit in the bathtub for a nice long, hot relaxing bath and being able to get up and out I could go on and on and on! Being banded on Feb. 13th....I sure hope these dreams come true! Marieze

What are your "post-band" favorite cooking appliances?

What are your "post-band" favorite cooking appliances?
Talking about getting prepared:biggrin: I have been looking at Target online to possibly buy a food processer. But there are choppers, food processers and blenders and not sure what I should get. I'm thinking primarily of the mushy, blended, pureed stuff that I will need to rely on for awhile. What's your favorite and what do you make with it? BTW, I once had a magic bullet and I thought it was junk. It broke after a few uses...so that's out! Marieze

10:30 tomorrow morning!
Godspeed! I can relate (being banded Feb. 13th, single mom of 11 yr. old boy). You are going to do fantastic! Stay positive and remember that you are doing this for your little one! It takes courage and I know you have it! Best of luck! Marieze

Anyone doing Atkins after getting a lapband?
So for those of you that responded and are doing Atkins or other lc, can I assume then that you are eating fats like olive oil, mayo, salad dressing? Also, are your portions still very small and being controlled by the band? I'm asking because like I said, I believe above, I did Atkins and lost but then hit a plateau because I think my portions were huge. I could see myself sticking to something like that and eating small portions which are limited by the band. Do you think that would be reasonable? Also, so many people say that things like steak (meat in general) and chicken are hard to get down. Doesn't that limit your lc choices? Marieze

Anyone doing Atkins after getting a lapband?
When I did lose weight in the past, the diet I preferred the most was an Atkins type of diet. Protein, veggies but I did eat the fat. If I eat salad, I prefer full fat dressings and I do like mayo on my protein such as coldcuts. Does anyone eat this way and still lose? Marieze

Poll: How long before you went back to work
I will be banded on Feb. 13th and am worried about needing to take too much time off. How long until you went back to work? If possible, what kind of job, i.e. desk job, etc. I'm in sales and need to run around and carry my briefcase which can be kinda heavy. Marieze

Oregon/Washington Doctors with a reasonable price?
I just wanted to say Hi! I can't be of much help as I am being banded on Feb. 13th by Emma Patterson and have insurance, but I spend a lot of time in Newberg because I am the "Welcome Wagon" lady!!!! I have a few clients there like Steve Drew who own's Steve's Auto, and Sally Dallas who own's The Newberg Gallery and a few others. I love Newberg!! Marieze
