Two Days Post Op

Recommended Posts

Well, let me just tell you it was not as easy as I thought it was going to be. I had surgery 1-24 and was scared the most about the IV being placed. I had my gallbladder removed two years ago and that was the most painful thing, the IV. I was the first surgery of the day at Centennial in Nashville, TN. IV went in no problem. Everyone was super nice to me.Dr. told my family the surgery went well and he could tell I had stuck to the pre op liquid diet(broth, Water, popsicles, jello). But after I woke up I had a bad time with the carbon dioxide they pump your belly up with. It caused me to have chest pains on the left side and I had so many specialist come by to see me it scared my family and friends, not to mention me! After an attempt to do a CAT scan and the contrast they injected TWICE did not show up they finally took me back to my room. As the evening progressed, the pain in my chest got better. But they were still concerned about a pulmonary embalisim(blood clot in the lung) so a nurse kept coming in and taking blood to check. Not so much pain after the surgery as being uncomfortable with all the bloating and not passing gas. Never had this problem with my gallbladder surgery. So I spent the night in the hospital and got up periodically walking the halls. Must have really looked like crap because when the day nurses came back in the following morning they all were shocked at how well I looked! Dr. was pleased with the progress and had me do a chest x-ray and swallow test before releasing me. The crap you have to drink was very nauseating to me. But at least I was cleared and was going home. My x-ray did show a small amount of pneumonia, but I had also went into the hospital the morning of surgery with chest congestion. Day two I am still very bloated but really not in pain. Slept great once I got home. Working in 64oz of fluids is so much harder than I thought! It is amazing to drink 4-6 oz and my belly to be FULL! Praise the Lord!Sorry for such a long post, but wanted to share my experience with anyone who is curious, since we all experience different things.Oh, by the way I had already lost 11lbs the week before on the liquids, so I am well on my way to my goal!

I go in on Feb. 13th. Don't apologize for a long post; for those of us with surgery just around the corner, it's great to read the post surgery posts.

How long do you expect the bloating to last...that's just one thing I'm going to hate!

Keep us posted!

I echo the last post...those of us about to have surgery want to know what we may have to expect. I hope you feel better and better as the days go by, good luck!

Thanks for the encouragement! I am feeling a little less bloated today, but beware if you use powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury as your Protein, because it makes me bloated. I have learned to just use 1/2 a scoop(10 g protein) at a time and I try to be up walking as I drink it. My hubby put it in the blender today to try something different, and all it did was foam up and leave the Water on the bottom. Gas X strips have been very helpful to me. My soreness from the surgery is really minimal, kinda like when I used to do crunches. Today is day 3 and I am feeling positive about the whole experience. Good luck to all future surgery patients and I can't wait to hear your experiences!

P.S. I do take some capsules that must be opened to be swallowed, applesauce made with splenda is the best to get them down. It is not on my liquid diet, but I got nauseated trying to get the contents down with just my drink.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
