  1. I hope you are all feeling better by now. I remember crying and wondering too if I had mad a bad choice. But, it really does subside and it really has been a blessing in my life. I had an aversion to sweetness at first too. The sugar substitutes were sickening! Even now, at 6+months out, I use less sweetener than ever. For instance, I used 10 packets of sweet n low in a gallon of tea before surgery, and for months afterwards used only 6 packets. I used 8 today. I ate a lot of scrambled eggs with onion on my soft foods. Keep drinking lots of water and check back every day....we can keep encouraging you and you can see how each day brings more normalcy to your life. praying for you all.

Any luck with Peer to Peer evaluation?

Different set of circumstances, but my Dr had to do a peer to peer after my denial, and it went great. Once he was able to speak with and explain the Doctor at the insurance company it was approved and I got my surgery date scheduled within 3 weeks of that phone conversation. Good luck to you. I remember how stressful the waiting is. Hang in there!
  3. Well haven't competed for over a year, plantar faciaitis (sp?) finally letting up. So I will be walking in the Turkey Run/Walk 5K Thanksgiving morning! Excited to get back out there.

That's great Jodie... I thought about doing a Turkey Trot too but I think I'm going the lazy couch potato route instead! :)

  4. I struggled with nausea too. About 3 weeks or so. Definitely drink your water, I got dehydrated and had to go to hospital to get IV fluids. Also made a round of horrible constipation happen! Weird, but I found that Crystal Light pink lemonade seemed to be something I could drink that would take some of the nausea out of me for a short bit at a time. Good luck, and won't be much longer. I am 6 mos out now and doing great.
  5. Snow finally melted off today. Thankful I don't live in Buffalo NY. Prayers for those affected.

    Almost to -100 lbs!

Yay! Weighto go!! I am at 91 pounds gone....here's looking to the century mark with you all!!
  7. Yes I think it has been a much more positive and successful surgery. I had the band surgery in November 2007 and repositioned in October 2008. It never worked again after the 2008 surgery, I guess it slipped, I would get food stuck on top of the band every time I ate real food, so I ate a lot of sliders to get something down. I got tired of having to go to the bathroom and PB every time I ate. Wish I had revised to the bypass sooner. I am 6 months out and doing great. Good luck on your journey.

    Sugar

I have not had any dumping, but I have gone out of my way to avoid anything with a lot of sugar grams. Fresh/frozen pineapple is probably one of the highest sugar content foods I eat. But I don't eat it alone. I mix it with greek yogurt, danon light and lively. I have had a few sugar free items, like cake and it has not bothered me. I am also going along with the thought that sugar will make me dump, helps my head to think that. Good luck on your decision.
  10. I am 6 months out this weekend. I have lost a total of 91 lbs since first visit last November, and 70 lbs from surgery date. Very pleased with my progress. The first 3 months went so fast...had some problems, but the second 3 months have been problem free. Also weight loss has slowed quite a bit this past 2 months. Had my first stall a while back. No loss for about 4 weeks. Moving about 1 to 2 lbs a week now. 3 this week. Looks like you are doing great as well. Getting close to goal, congrats!
  11. Onderland...I have arrived! It has been 17 years since I weighed under 200. I feel so good.

    Venting about bad news

If you are having a revision, you definitely want a surgeon that has experience in doing that. If Dr. Burpee doesn't like doing revisions, he probably isn't who you want doing it anyway. You are worth the extra drive, and time to get the right doctor for you! Hang in there and good luck on your journey!

    It Finally Happened

Good for you! I had my band revision to RNY on May 13,2014. Had the band since October 2007...bad experience for sure. The bypass is the best decision I have ever made for my health. I am down 85lbs (20 before surgery),not quite 6 months. I had a rough first month after surgery, but at week 5 everything fell into place. I have slowed down on weight loss the past 6 weeks, but it is still coming off about a pound a week. Rest up, do what the doc says and enjoy the journey.
  15. Well I just realized that I am crossing my legs again!! I was sitting in church and looked down, and was like "wow" I don't remember how long it has been. I wondered how come it seemed so hard to do before and it was my weight! What a blessing this wls has been.

Hooray! It's funny the things you just notice... like my butt hurts a lot more sitting on a hard chair... I guess there's not as much cushion there as there used to be. :)

  16. Dr.s office called and rescheduled my 6 month check up. it is about 3 weeks earlier than I expected. I really wanted to be under 200 by then. With my weight loss slowing down, I may not make it. But on the bright side...I haven't been this light for years! It will be great to lose through the holidays for the first time EVER!!

  17. Wow..just 6 pounds from onderland! And I just bought a pair of size 18 jeans ... it has been soooo long! Thank you God for helping me make the decision for wls.

Won't be long now! Are you doing your pre surgery liquid diet yet?

  18. First let me say Congrats on making this decision to better your life! And second, Wow! If I had woken up during 3 procedures that I was not supposed to be awake for, I would be nervous too. Definitely speak to your surgeon and anesthetist about your past experience, so they can e you answers and knowledge to ease your mind. Then you can let go of that fear, and embrace your journey! I was a bit nervous myself without the bad experiences, but I kept my faith and all turned out well. The first few weeks were rougher than I expected, but I tried to go back to work too early. Just do what the doctor says...and don't rush your recovery. Good luck.
  19. Seeing the scale move again has been a relief. 2 tenths from losing 80 lbs. It is so exciting to see myself weighing less than I have for years. I just wanted to say how much I appreciate everyone here and all your support!!

    Yay You!!! What an accomplishment.
  21. Finally dropped a pound...have been stuck for 12 days at 211. I saw 210 this morning!! Onederland is getting close!

Woot Woot! Isn't it great when you see those numbers change??? Just keep moving and eating as you should and it'll get there. I find after a stall I usually drop a few pounds over a day or two. Hope that happens with you too.

    6 months and 100lbs

Congratulations!! You look great, I see you have been in a race as well. Way to grab on to your second chance. I have no regrets either. Past my 1/2 way mark, 71 lbs to go. We are so blessed to have this opportunity for a healthier life.
  23. I told my family and a very few friends before, and shortly after the surgery. I am out 4 months now and have lost 75lbs. When people ask how I lost the weight, I do tell them about my WLS. If they just comment on my weight loss, I say "Thank You". I agree with Ginger Snaps...if they want to know how, because they have their own weight loss decision to make, I will be open. I am very open about my use of anti-depressants as well, because I believe if my honesty will help someone else I should share.
  24. I am past my half way mark, I can not believe it. So glad to have made the decision to have bypass. All the fears, the struggles, the hard work are really worth it. Feeling better than I have in years. Thank you all for being such an inspiration while I was deciding what to do.
