I agree with your overall message.... We shouldn't freak out over a little slip. But you have no clue how life is gonna be this time next year....or the year after that. Your assertation that your sleeve won't allow you to eat high sugar food in large quantities is just plain wrong. Embrace healthy eating habits now while it's still easy. Cause later on it gets a lot harder.

If you don't like confrontation it is not wise to set up a battle before you even state your reasoning. Give the people some credit for understanding and understand that haters are not rightfully classified as haters just because they disagree with you.
If you do like confrontation you did fine.

I am not saying this for pity or to be confrontational. This is just MY truth. I can (and have) eat slider foods easily. Not to the extreme quantity I once was able, but much easier than I can eat Protein. I have struggled with stopping now that I started. There may be people who can limit their self to just one, I am not that type person. As the poster said above, be careful. I am just over two months out and already find slider food easy to eat, so I am very worried about 4, 6, 8 months out! This is my addiction. I have fought it and have been able to lose 62lbs since August. ( both before and after surgery) But I am still morbidly obese. I still need to lose about 118lbs. If I don't get a grip on my addiction again, it will win. I didn't have major surgery for that to happen. I would never beat anyone up for doing something I have done. I just say remember how we all got to this point to begin with. If control was easy for us would we really had needed the surgery?

Nothing was a slider for me until about 8 months out. chips are very easy to eat too much of now. It's a dangerous game testing the sleeve and relying solely on it. When you're able to eat more after about six months, you'll wish you had started making those life changes sooner. I've had days where I eat crap every 2 hours......it's the addict in me that is finding ways around the sleeve. Be very careful. At two months out it should be easy to resist because the novelty hasnt worn off yet. But this struggle is lifelong.

Let's see, you are also only 2 months out. You WILL be able to eat lots of chips,Cookies, crackers, chocolate these are all slider foods. What is sad that you are even attempting to eat a cookie at 2 months out. You will see as time moves on...................good luck.

Actually your stomach will allow you to eat a bag of Doritos because it's a slider food. Or any chips for that matter.
It does seem like you started this thread just to be confrontational. But hey, to each his own. Sounds like you have it all figured out.
    Happy New Year!

You will probably need to continue with a few shakes a day until you are able to eat more and get Protein in through food. Puréed meats were hard on my tummy at first. I did a lot of cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, Refried Beans with melted wedge of laughing cow cheese, sugar free pudding and my favorite, lime green Jello.

caroline2 reacted to Phoenix79 in Wow- 5, yes 5 NSV's in one day!
I'm staying in a hotel in Seattle with my mom and sisters for a girls night out. We've shopped, eaten out, and have had a great time! What really made me feel good we're all the NSV's one right after the other! First, I brought PJ's that didn't fit me last month, and they fit perfectly now, size xxl! Second, I bought my first pair of size 16w jeans at Macy's - all the way down from a size 26-28. Third- I went to Old Navy and I was able to fit in size Xxl or Xl depending on fit- I've never been able to shop the store before for clothes- just jewellery and dog toys. I went a little nuts in the clearance section because I needed replacement clothes for the ones I donated cleaning out my closet! Fourth- dinner at Cheesecake Factory, and I sat in the wicker chair instead of the booth- (fit easily- 1st time for that) & ate one Thai lettuce wrap for dinner. Fifth- went swimming at the hotel and used the hotel provided robe to cover up- it fit and tied up & I heard an angelic choir singing! . It was a great day and so encouraging! I had surgery July 2nd 2013, highest weight 330, surgery weight 289, current weight 219, size 16-18. Keep going newbies- you CAN do it!

I love, love, love cottage cheese with diced tomatoes. Canned are fine. That's if you can handle the acid. Just a few and a little of the juice really flavors the cottage cheese...and I add salt, pepper and a little garlic powder. Yum, yum.

It's going to be fine, really. I was sleeved three weeks ago and I was as nervous as a whore in church! I couldn't sleep for days. Once you are knocked out, you'll wake in recovery. You will not be in pain, you'll be full of pain meds. When I got to my room, they gave me pain meds ever 4hours through my IV. I was sent home with pain meds and took them for only two days. I had phenegran for nausea. I'm not going to lie, you may be uncomfortable the first week. Each day gets better and better! It will all be worth it. You just need to remember to walk, walk, walk and sip, sip, sip! Hang in there!

This is a major surgery. You are going to be tired. I'm almost 4 weeks post op. I feel pretty good. I still get tired easily. I promise you each day will get better. Just focus on getting your fluids and Protein Shakes in. Walking is very helpful too. Good luck!

Here is what my sister, an oncology nurse, said:
"DO NOT SIGN A DNR!!! That's crazy. He's probably just over reacting because of his own condition. You'll be fine. Go ahead and do a living will."
I would give her my MPOA, but she lives in another state. Fortunately, we will be moving back there this coming Spring.

I had my period and I shaved first....and I had on black panties firmly fitting indicating do not touch. I hope you all are sitting down! I put a sticky note that's said "do not remove!" No one mentioned it after but I'm sure they laughed.....I did so hard when I thought about it. That must of eased the OR.

caroline2 reacted to McButterpants in Post op pizza and Mexican food.
For you pre-oppers and newly post-oppers worried about what post op life will be like, I wanted to share a couple of meals I've had recently - I'm 4 weeks post op and these are on my doc approved plan and sleeve friendly.
pizza - Oh how I miss Pizza Night with the family. But I think we have found a great work-around in my house.
Take a Carb Balance tortilla shell (I used the fajita size) and spread some pizza sauce it. Then get creative with your doc-approved toppings. I used turkey pepperoni and low-fat mozzarella cheese on one. I also made one with BBQ Sauce (instead of the pizza sauce), shredded chicken and the mozzarella. OMG, delish. At 4 weeks out, I can eat about 1/2 of one pizza. What a great treat. (And my son and husband love these!)
Last night the family wanted Mexican food, so we went to Cafe Rio. I ordered a taco meal which comes with one taco and rice and Beans. I told them to hold the rice and no lettuce in my taco, just the meat and cheese. This is what my bite looked like...a little piece of the chicken and cheese, one bean, and a smidge of sour cream. Then I chewed, chewed and chewed some more. It was wonderful and it made me feel like I was back in the land of the living - enjoying a meal with my family.

Oh..for those easy way out people..how about liquids for 2 weeks, pureed for 4 weeks soft good for 3 weeks. Then living with a few bites of food at a time. Oh yea, we are taking the easy way out! Please!

I can tell you from the standpoint of a sleever and a paramedic/ER RN. If I need to be intubated then they are welcome to go for it. I want them to do it! If it is done correctly no harm to your stomach will be done. The small risk definitely outweighs the benefits of life.
