Congratulations to you! I know how wonderful a feeling it is to be able to walk longer distances. I think it's awesome that your partner is going to have surgery too. You two will both have a new lease on a great journey into better health. Keep us up to date on both of yours progress. Take care.

Getting so frustrated... starting to become depressed
You are doing wonderful in losing weight. You should be giving yourself a lot of credit for how far you have come. In losing weight your meds might need adjusting for your bipolar. I would check on that if you are having trouble with your mood. I know for my depression I had to have my meds adjusted because of the weight lose. I also agree that you might not be taking in enough calories because of all the exercising. Take to your nutritionist or surgeons office about adjustments to your plan. Remember you've come a great distance in a short time in losing and maybe your body is just saying let me have a breather and I'll start working again in dropping the weight. Take care.

Fat free sugar free choc pudding
That sounds yummy to do. I use Jay Robb whey Protein powder and it has no grit or after taste. It blends real smooth. I also use Torani sugar free syrups in my shakes. They are wonderful, made with Splenda and come in many, many flavors. I buy them direct from the company or if you have World Market in your area they carry them too.

Regrets
I have only one regret and that is that I didn't do this when I was younger. I have had nothing but relief from a lot of medical problems. I function so much better with my weight lose. I think that with any surgery there are risks but with WLS they now a days they are minimal to happen. Best of luck with your up coming surgery.

Need advise thinking of getting the sleeve
I was going to do the sleeve originally but my gastric doctor told me my GERDS would get worse if I did so I had the bypass on his recommendation. I don't regret it at all. I have had no real problems with it and I'm healthier then I have been in years. The final decision is yours but if getting rid of GERDS is your objective then I say bypass for sure.

Help!
I lost 40 lbs before surgery and I was a diabetic also. From the day of surgery I've been off diabetic meds and have an A1C when last checked of 4.7. So it can be done. Good luck tomorrow and you'll be fine.

Depression and Bariatric surgery
Since my weight loss I just about a month ago was lowered on two of my meds for depression. My doctor is going to take it slow in doing this but said that she probably will not take me off of them completely. So far so good in not feeling any changes in my mood. I say listen to your doctor and see how it goes for you.

Will I be able to get rid of my CPAP machine?
I didn't get rid of my CPAP until just recently. I did go for a sleep study to make sure that I could go off of it. I was told that I do better sleeping on my side then when I sleep on my back. So good getting off the machine. My suggestion is have another sleep, study to make sure. Good luck!

WLS and meds
I took my meds right after surgery in pill form and had no problems. I didn't take Vitamins until two weeks after surgery and those are chewables.

Holy Cow! Wasn't expecting this!
Hi John I too was all set to do the sleeve and three weeks before surgery my surgery had to be switched to bypass because of GERDS. I knew very little about gastric bypass and had to take a crash course about it and in the long run it worked out great for me. I am pleased with my gastric bypass. I have had very little problems with it. I hope that everything works out for you. Best of luck with your upcoming surgery.

No support from Spouse
Shame on him for not being there for you...... Love is suppose to be unconditional no matter how you look or have blips in the battle in the past with weight losing. You're not the disappointment he is by not supporting you. You should be very proud of yourself for making this decision of having the surgery to help you. It's a wonderful thing you are doing so you have brighter future without health issues. I wish you all the best with your surgery.

You look wonderful. Congratulations on a fine job of taking care of yourself. You look really happy.

Mini gastric bypass
I have never heard of such a thing as that. You either have gastric bypass completely. It sounds troublesome. Having surgery in Mexico doesn't allow you follow up check ups at all. You need to be monitored very closely after surgery by your surgeon and nutritionist. Please think twice about this it just doesn't sound right.

I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!
I use Jay Robb whey Protein shakes with stevia. Stevia is from a plant and is not considered an artificial sweetener. Jay Robb comes in strawberry, chocolate, vanilla and I believe two other flavors. You can get it in individual packets at Whole Foods to try it if you want. If it works for you then you can buy it on Amazon and it's the cheapest price in my opinion. I wish you good luck with everything. Also,Quest Bars are màde with stevia and they have 20 or 21 grams of protein. In them. You won't be able to eat them until after three months after surgery but they are good and helpful for getting in your protein.

why do I feel like this?
Please don't feel down because of two individuals that in my opinion are mean, jealous fools who are really bad uncaring people. They are no kind of friend if they act this way towards you. Your date will be here sooner then you expect. The time will go very fast. You should be very proud that you are taking this step to better health. Good luck with your upcoming surgery.

Can you crush non chewable iron, multi vitamin, b12 & biotin?
I take chewables of Biotin from Twinlabs called biotin dots. I take chewable calcium citrate which you can get from costco, Celebrate Vitamins, and other Vitamin companies. I take Flinestones multi chewable vitamins from Costco ( they're the cheapest for them) because that's what my surgeon says to take and I believe they have an easier Iron to digest in them. I swallow Omega 3 and Vitamin D. Also B12 which I get at Costco too is suppose to go under your tongue or it won't be absorbed into your body. That is once a week I take that. So this is what I take and do.

what foods YOU cannot eat anymore?
No that's defeating the purpose of having this surgery done by chewing it and spitting it out. You must stick to your program that your surgeon and nutritionist come up with for you to be successful. Now onto what I use to curb my cravings for sweets. I use Quest Bars. They have 20 or 21 grams of Protein in them. They are made with stevia not sugar. They come in many flavors to enjoy. I also have sugar free Bomb Pops Popsicles. You could have sugar free Jello, or sugar free pudding and add unflavored Protein powder to it to help get in your protein. I also use Torani sugar free flavored syrups that are made with Splenda in my Protein drinks to kick hem up a notch in flavor. They come in many flavors and you can get them from the company or World Market if there is one in your area. I have yet to had the craving for salty things so I can't help you there. I wish you luck with your surgery.

Very interesting. Thank you for posting it.

After surgery question about eating
Yes eating like that does not last trust me. I do not eat like that at all now and haven't for awhile. You have to eat or drink slowly after surgery because your pouch is very small and can only hold at the max 4 oz after a few weeks. You will be healing and any more then an ounce or two will make you sick and truthfully you won't want any more then that right after surgery. Remember that with gastric bypass they shrink your stomach size by 85%. As the weeks progress and you can eat and drink more you will not be eating every couple of hours. Please try to relax on this subject and just look forward to the end results of a healthier and trimmer you.

Hair Loss/Celiac/hypo thyroid/Lap Band to Gastric Bypass/going back to work
I take Biotin Dots chewables by Twinlab. Your body does much better with absorbing chewables of any Vitamin. hair loss can happen in months 4,5,and 6. Your hair will replenish itself if it falls out any. I have short hair so what I lost wasn't visible really. Don't let this worry you. Good luck with your future surgery.

More than 200 lbs to lose?
I weighed at one time 350 back in 2006. Over the seven years prior to my first meeting with the surgeon I lost 68 lbs on my own no special way. I had been heavy all my life. I once lost 150 but gained it all back and then some. The best gift I gave myself was gastric bypass surgery. I haven't been weighed since the end of March so I don't know if I'm at goal or not. You see I don't own a scale and don't plan on ever buying one. I'm a work in progress. Since surgery I no longer take meds for high blood pressure, diabetes, or cholesterol. I am also off of other meds or have cut down a lot. I've gone down from a 34/36 clothes to a 12/14 in size in pants and a large/extra large in tops. I'm proud of that. I work out 4x a week on the stationary bicycle and do 9+ miles in 40 minutes. I wish you all continued success.

Will surgery after certain age make you look haggard?
I'm 52 and everyone who has seen me says that I look younger. I look at the before and progression picture I posted under my name and I can see I look younger too. Since I've lost the weight I exercise 9+ miles on the stationary bicycle without being out of breath 4x a week. I can walk longer and longer distances. I can go up and down the stairs with less of a problem. I'm off CPAP and most of my meds. No more high blood pressure, no diabetes, no high cholesterol. So don't let the doubting people in your life deter you from having this surgery because you will be so glad you did it in the long run. Best of luck to you with your up coming surgery.

Lovin my protein shake
I use Torani sugar free syrups in my shakes. They are made with Splenda. They come many, many flavors. You can get them directly from the company, from World Market, Amazon, or eBay. Just a good change of pace.
