Has anyone told you that this surgery is too drastic?
Congratulations,on making a very brave choice to get yourself healthy. Having this surgery was brave because it took a lot of guts to do it. To heck with your MIL and her way of thinking. She should be proud of you for taking matters into your hands and making this new life choice to be healthy. You are doing great.

About 24 hours to go...
You'll be fine and try to relax by maybe watching a movie or two. Something light and funny to try to calm your nerves. My surgery went just like I was told it would. The only thing I wish is that I consumed more fluids then I did while in the hospital because I had to stay for four days for IV fluids. That was the only problem I had and it was me not the surgery that caused it. I wish you the best of luck in this new chapter in your life.

Lack of protein
May suggest a Protein powder that I like it's Jay Robb whey Protein which comes in four flavors of chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and I believe it's called tropical. It's full of Vitamins and it's made with Stevia. I also recommend Torani sugar free syrups to add to the shake. They are made with Splenda and come in about 20 or so flavors. Jay Robb is sold at Whole Foods, also, Amazon and eBay. Torani sugar free syrups are sold directly from the company, Amazon, eBay or World Market stores. I also suggest unjury chicken broth because it has 20g of protein per serving. You get that directly from the company. You can also add unflavored Protein Powder to sugar free Jello, sugar free pudding, or even in Crystal Light drink mixes. One other suggestion for Protein drinks is Premier Protein drinks from costco. They come in chocolate, vanilla or strawberry. I also suggest you check with your nutritionist about these suggestions and see what they say. Good luck to you on your journey of weight loss.

Hair...do's
I'm seventh months out and my hair is highlighted and had no problem. I must say this that Protein is very important and you must eat all that is required to do or when your hair starts to thin out in month four, five and six you will loose more from the lack of protein in your diet. Also your body will not heal as well from surgery from the lack of protein. I suggest Protein shakes, unflavored Protein powder in sugar free Jello, in sugar free pudding or even in crystal light. That will help get protein in your body. You could also use

Any WLS grill ideas?
One of the fishes that we use is Sole and it cooks very quickly wrapped in foil. Spray the foil always with cooking spray so it won't stick to the foil. Any kind of fillet would work cooking in foil. I can't remember if shrimp is on the list for soft foods but if it is you can grill them too.

2 mos today
That's wonderful and congratulations.

Woohoo greek yogurt!
I use Fage 0% fat Greek yogurt myself and put Splenda and fruit sometimes.

Chewing gum
If you've have had gastric bypass the answer is no you can't have gum. The reason for this is it puts air in your pouch and can cause pain and cause gas. This is what I have been told by my surgeon and nutritionist.

Gastric Reflux Post Op... A Survey
I still take meds for my Gerds but it's not as bad as it once was. I believe I'm a rarity because most people get rid of their Gerds and reflux from bypass surgery. Good luck with your revision surgery.

3 Jun surgery date but worried about a1c to high
Hi I was on metformin and Victoza and I got my A1C down under 7 for surgery which was required. I would ask your surgeon what they require your A1C be to have the surgery. I wanted say that I stopped all diabetes meds the day of surgery and I now have an A1C of 4.7 last time checked. Good luck with your surgery and getting your A1C down.

Hello everyone. First post
Welcome Michelle, This is a great place to come to talk and ask questions. Let me tell you a little about me. I am seven months out and I feel great. I had no major complications from the surgery. I eat at restaurants when I go out socially. I eat a variety of foods. I find by trail and error that I can eat certain fishes over others. I can eat turkey and chicken only in certain forms. I can eat beef if it's slow cooked and soft. I prefer Egg Beaters over eggs but can eat regular eggs too. I eat reduced fat cheese and some times with crackers. I eat greek yogurt with Splenda and sometimes fruit because regular yogurts have to much sugar. I eat a Quest Protein Bar every day and a Protein shake every day to make sure I get in enough protein in. I drink plenty of Water. Probably enough to fill an ocean. LOL. I eat fruit and vegetables. The most important thing you can do is listen to your surgeon and nutritionist and follow the guidelines they give you. Always eat first of all your protein and drink all your water every day. Your feelings are normal about this surgery and you will be glad you did it. I wish you success on your journey into this new chapter of your life.

Eating Anxiety...
You are in trouble big time! You are most defiantly not eating the proper nutrition. You must following the instructions and guidelines your doctor and nutritionist have given you. You must run to the therapist immediately you need help most defiantly. Please keep us informed of your progress and what you have done to improve the situation. Best of luck.

Sweet tooth
For my sweet tooth I eat Quest Bars but they have 20 or 21 grams of Protein them. They are approved by my nutritionist to use. I also use Bomb Pop Popsicles that are made with Splenda. You may also have sugar free pudding. One last suggestion is Petite Deceit sugar free hard candies that are made with Stevia. You can find them on Amazon. Good luck to you.

Surgery tomorrow... Am I ready?
It's really a normal feeling to be nervous. But this surgery is a great tool for helping you to loose weight. Your stomach will be to small to eat large amounts of food. I'm seven months out and I'm happy that I had the surgery and don't regret doing it either. All I can say is listen to your surgeons and nutritionists guidelines that they give you and you will be pleased with yourself when those pounds start to come off. They are there to make things as easy for you as they can. Also they will be there to answer questions and concerns that come up and don't hesitate to contact them. Also people are here to talk to and help you along your way on this new chapter in your life. Best of luck on this journey.

Costco Premier Protein
Shmily, The reason why is it doesn't have the right Protein in them in their opinion. I don't understand it since everyone else seems to be able to drink them on their programs. I follow the guidelines that they have given me so I don't drink them any more. I use Jay Robb whey Protein powder made with stevia instead.

Costco Premier Protein
They are really good. My nutritionist and surgeon don't allow them as part of their program and I wish they would. They come in chocolate, vanilla and strawberry at costco. Good luck in your journey of WLS.

Gastric Bypass 9 years on.
What happened to you is not common place with this surgery. I feel for you that you had and are having difficulties. This surgery has changed in the past decade and has been improved upon. More people have had this surgery then any other WLS and have had great success. I am one of them. I hope that you can get beyond your anger about this and try to have a happier life.

CA- Orange County
I don't live in California but I have suggestion that you might try a library to use one of their rooms possibly.

A1C too high for surgery?
I agree cut down your carbs and sugar intake. Choose more vegetables then fruit. Stay away from juices very high in natural sugars. If you eat yogurt get plain and add your own sweetener to it and a little fruit. Protein shakes are great but read the label for ingredients and make sure there is not sugar in it. If you are going to make your own shakes then I recommend Jay Robb whey Protein powder made with stevia. It comes in vanilla, strawberry and chocolate. You can find it at a Whole foods, Amazon, eBay or directly from the company. If you want some flavors added to it I recommend Toscani sugar free syrups made with Splenda. You can find them at World Market, Amazon, eBay or directly for Toscani. These are just a few suggestions of what I would do. Good luck.

Surgery April 23rd
First of all get rid of that scale or least only step on it once a week. scales are in my opinion self defeating and can drive you crazy. Second I highly doubt your surgeon is going to call off your surgery. Third don't sweat it that you fell off the wagon because it's over and done with. The best of luck to you for Wednesday.

April 28th is the big day...8 days to go and having second thoughts
Have you done this before I mean loose weight? I've did many times and many others here have too. In my opinion Optifast is unrealistic way to loose weight permanently because as soon as you start eating food your body will glob onto it. Surgery is a big deal and maybe you're having second thoughts because you are worried about it. In my opinion I think you will have bigger worries if you don't do it. I would some soul searching and ask myself questions of why at this point you're so set against it when you wanted it before. Good luck with whatever decision you make.

2 weeks out- scared to start eating pureed food
Don't be afraid. I'm six months out and I eat regular food, Quest Protein bar and a Protein shake everyday and I'm still loosing. I keep to the right portions and works. I can tell if you don't start the next phase your body will go haywire. It needs the nutrition. Most important is protein and Water to help you heal properly. Following each stage that the nutritionist and the surgeon have mapped out for you it's important. I wish you continued success and relax it will be fine.

How often do you weigh yourself?
I don't weigh myself. I only get weighed when I go to the doctors for something. I just rely on how my clothes fit. I think weighing yourself often is self defeating. Your weight fluctuates to much that you might get discouraged if it doesn't say what you want it to say. Good luck with your surgery when it happens.

Comorbidities and surgery
I was diabetic which I know have an A1C of 4.7 and off all meds for that. I had high blood pressure which I no longer take meds for. I had high cholesterol which I no longer have so I am off that med. I had migraines which I haven't had and am off that med. My sleep apnea is going to be retested and with luck I'll be off of CPAP too. Surgery is well worth doing. I will feel so much better for doing it. Good luck in your decision.

Soda flavor
Toscani makes sugar free syrups in many flavors and it is made with Splenda. Maybe give them a try and see if they have anything that sounds good to you.
