  1. Thanks for all the advice, I will get it checked out. Will let you all know what I find.
  2. I am 8 months postoperative, had mini incision RNY. Until this past week my incision was fine, healed nicely and looked fine. This week I noticed that the incision was itching. Then I noticed that the incision line was starting to raise up and now it is very red. So now it is really itching, very red and raised up. It is a bit sore when I touch or press on it. Has anyone else had any issue similar to this? I find it hard to believe that there could be an infection in an 8 month old incision that had healed properly a long time ago. BUT I am getting a bit worried about this. Any advice would be appreciated.

    October 8th surgery date

I am scheduled for Oct 8. I will have surgery at Fair Oaks hospital in Fairfax Virginia. I am getting really excited as the date gets nearer. Am finishing up my last pre op tests this week. See my surgeon Friday. Am not required to do the preop liquid diet, just watch what I eat before surgery. Looking forward to sharing experiences with all on this thread. Good luck to all having surgery on the 8th. Wishing us all a successful surgery, speedy recovery with few to no complications.
  6. I am pre op for a gastric bypass but wanted to ask those of you who have had surgery this question. I had my endoscopy today. They found hiatal hernia, irregular line and non-corrosive gastritis in the entire stomach. I know the hiatal hernia can be fixed at the same time I get the gastric bypass, but has anyone had either of the other two problems delay or stop gastric bypass?
  7. Had my endoscopy today. Results show hiatal hernia, but I know this can corrected at the time I get the gastric bypass. They also found an irregular line (took biopsies) and non-corrosive gastritis in the entire stomach (took biopsies). Has anyone else had these issues? Did it prevent or delay your surgery?
  8. Shellbell79, I agree 100%, it is a grieving process that started quite awhile ago when I first started contemplating the surgery and has progressed as I get closer to the date. I will be so happy to not be thinking about food 24/7.
  9. October 8 for me. I would love to keep in touch as we all move through this process towards a healthier us!! I am so excited and looking forward to. This next chapter in my life.
  10. I am scheduled for RNY gastric bypass October 8. I have definitely been having the same thoughts you are describing. I have thought many times I am not going to be able to eat this after surgery and that there are things that I am not young to be able to do like eat the birthday cake at my grandsons birthday party on October 29. But these thoughts are not sad thoughts with me just reminders to myself that I will Jo longer do or eat things and that I will be a much healthier person for it. Looking forward to changing my life although I know it is going to be really hard.

    October Buddies wanted

I had my second appt with the surgeon today. No pre op diet required. My surgeon has pioneered a mini open RNY gastric surgery that does not require shrinking the liver. He has performed over four thousand over the years. Post surgery he only requires two days of liquid diet then 8 weeks of puréed food. Then start adding solid food one at a time. I am scheduled for October 8. I still have to get endoscopy, medical clearance, see the nut one last time, attend the bariatric class at the hospital, pulmonary function test and cardiac clearance. So much to do and so little time, I hope I can get it all done in time. See the surgeon one last time on October 3. It is starting to become real and I am getting excited! I am not telling anyone at work, including my manager, but it is getting harder given the amount of time I will need to take off to get all the pre op tests completed.

    October Buddies wanted

I received my insurance approval Monday! I was so excited. It was hard to contain my excitement, I am on a 10 day business trip and I have decided I am not going to tell anyone at work, so I had no one to celebrate with. My surgery is scheduled for Oct. 8. I am in northern Virginia. I see my surgeon Friday to receive pre op orders and find out if he requires the 10 day liquid diet. I would assume so but not 100% sure. I am so excited to get this started and living a new and healthier life. Good luck to all who are going before me!

How Many Guys Are On This App

Hi guys! 61years old. 5'9" BMI of 43, starting weight of 300. Found out my insurance does not cover WLS. Will be trying to change insurance at the beginning of next year to get coverage. I started my six month nutritionist supervised diet to have that out of the way by year end. Have sleep apnea, high bp, reflux, bad knees and prediabetic. Have lost 40 lbs in the first three months, but have a hundred to go and will need WLS to make that happen. I was wondering if there were any other guys in these forums. Glad to see there are a few of us here. Will keep you posted on my quest to get insurance coverage and get my surgery scheduled.

    What Keeps You Going?

The hope that there is a new life out there for me. My current insurance does not cover WLS. But I know without it I will die. So I am in my third month of my 6 month work with the nutritionist. I am hoping to get new insurance at the end of the year that will cover WLS. I plan to do all the prep work that I can so that if and when I get insurance I will be ready to try and get approved. I can only hope!
